Do you clicker train? If not then that is most likely your deficiency.

Snow I hope you read the hint of sarcasm in my response, as I was not suggesting that because you lack a clicker (lol that sounds kind of funny) that you were thus deficient in your training. I on the other hand do have a clicker but do not use it, so I guess that would mean that I to am deficient but not as deficient as you.

It was a failed and now that I think about probably incorrect attempt to lighten the mood.
I do not think that others are actually saying that a clicker is required; it just can sometimes seem that way.

i saw the attempt at humor...

maybe some of the folks here (expressing highly charged emotions) should go out and walk their dogs.

    it's theraputic on many levels.

dgriego, did you get your i-collar questions answered?

For me, training is not about how much of a badass I am and what I can achieve in the most difficult possible way for my dogs. It's about teaching my dogs the skills they need to be safe in the human world, and maybe to be able to have some interesting and fun experiences. It's not about me at all. If I can accomplish my goal in the easiest possible way by using food rewards (and then correctly fading them so they are no longer needed), why wouldn't I?

I believe Driego did and the right answers came from the member who actually owns and uses one on a regular basis.  [:D]

yes I did coyote, although I am still unsure if purchasing one or recomending purschase is something I will do, some of the buckle and left side only things make it a bit to expensive. I do know one person that I will recomeend they try one.

I jsut returned from walking my dogs and we all feel much better now!

And i bet thats the same for ALL the people in this thread, including ME [8D]

Well, all of this "I can do this and that with my dogs and they weigh a million pounds and they will do backflips for me and I don't ever need food" stuff....  Well, okay, I can't. And, as far as I'm concerned, that's okay. The end state is the same. A well trained dog who will perform reliably under a number of contexts without any tangible reward being present. But I often hear this derisive snobbery about not using food to train, that only suckers use treats to train. And my point is, if you use treats to train (and do it correctly) and still arrive at the same end state as someone who didn't, big whoop dee doo.

No, you got that wrong, usually it's the people that don't buy into the clicker training and food rewarding that get attacked here, usually by a very well known member, like I was accused that I didn't get it, and I needed to read ron's thread so a light would come on for me.....what on earth....over?

DPU it was your information that was most helpful  as I was looking for someone who had used the collar and could give me the details on what they thought about it. Thank you for posting!

You know, I do not have any problem with learning something new, I am always looking to learn more on how to best work with my dogs, but it is true that sometimes the manner in which the suggestions come make the suggestions themselves difficult to swallow. No one wants to be made out to be stupid, or inhumane, nor do people like hearing that their method is bad and they need to change to yours because it is better. I think people "brag" about their dogs because the assumption in the threads is because they do not operate within the complete LIGHT that their dogs are deficient.
The other problem is the LIGHT is the only way and other methods are tossed out completley which when applied to all dogs and all people across the board is unbalanced. Dog training is not and should not be a religion. It is okay to talk about your religion as if it is the only way and people MUST comply with the doctrine of the religion, but it is not okay for dog training.
At times I even get disgusted with the word "positive" (and I consider myself to be very positive in my training methods) just becaise it is the first word thrown out in virtually every thread. Someone asks for help, obedience classes are recomended and half a dozen posts pop in about making sure it is positive training, as if everyone else were advocating negative training.
These are assumptions that everyone is aware of, and it is obvious that both sides assume something not written but implied. Not sure if we will ever solve this. Written communication is all we have and that makes it more difficult to talk about a topic with passion and yet not offend someone. I do think the word definitions have helped a little.
