Argh....Ignore the PEOPLE!!!!!
Jack is an attention w hore. He LOVES meeting new people and dogs. However, I's like him to get to where he only approaches people or dogs on my cue, as opposed to what he does now, which is go say hi to anyone who makes eye contact with him, or looks/sounds/smells moderately interesting. He...

What do you think? (a weird behaviour)
We went on a looong walk today with Will, the dogs and the in laws. Will collected some pine cones, but these were slimy and filthy and wet. (Umm thanks for that gdad! ) So his Nan had a great idea - show him a natty hidey hole in a tree and persuade him to hide them in there! Which worked great, but...

Bark Limiter G3
Okay, so I received the collar today and it seems pretty straight forward regarding use. I tested it out on myself, putting it up to my vocal cords, giving steady pressure and "barked"....... nothing..... So I kept adjusting the stim intensity and never felt anything.... I made sure that the...

Dog afraid of truck?
I have an almost 2 year old yellow lab. She has been going to daycare with my husband since she was 5 months old. He brings her in his truck. For the past several months she has been refusing to get in his truck. If he can get her in (usually by picking her up and lugging her), when he lets her out...

"Aggressive" dogs
How do you define an "aggressive" dog? Feel free to give examples/scenarios/anecdotes. When, to you, does a dog cross the line? Do you see "aggression" (however you define it) as bad? Why do you think dogs are aggressive?

How can I get Simba's collar on him more smoothly?
Hey guys. So when I go to put on Simba's collar he tends to mouth at me, and I think it's because he's not crazy about people reaching over his head just yet. Though I'm working on that with him. Right now, when I go to put a collar on him, I make him sit and give him a carrot to occupy...

Took Simba to puppy class tonight...
And he was great with the other dogs, until they started to jump around in his face. Then he started to growl as if to say back off, some of them didn't seem to listen and Simba basically told them off. Ugh, I just hope this doesn't turn him into an aggressive dog later on. Any ideas on what...

Sylvia Bishop?
Hey there everyone! I have the opportunity to attend a local Sylvia Bishop seminar in the near future. From what I can find online, she seems to be very highly respected as well as very successful in the world of obedience. The only thing I can't seem to find out about her is what, exactly, her training...

HELP! Apollo attacked...(BlackLabbie)
...a 12 week old Boxer pup this morning. I was at the park with all 3 of my dogs this morning when this older guy pulls up with his Boxer pup. The dogs greeted each other, all went fine. They played (play bows, zoomies, wrestling) for about 30-45 minutes, all was great. Then I called my 3 to come because...

Dog Socialization/training question
I am back with another question-this time about our 4 month rescue mix Maggie getting accustomed to other dogs (esp on walks). I have heard numerous times that dogs do not generalize when they are trained (so sit on carpet is going to be a separate training from sit on cement, etc). My question is: Does...

Eye contact in training
A couple of weeks ago, our Agility instructor started advising me to make sure that I give Maya direct eye contact at certain points in the course. She said that especially with herding breeds (which Maya isn't) eye contact could be a powerful motivator. It's really made a difference in Agility...

Help! My puppy won't stop barking at night in her crate
I have a 16 week old lab puppy. We have had her for 5 weeks and she has been in her crate from the very beginning. She whined a little when I first put her in there but has since stopped that. She has always woke up around 2-4 in the morning and cried so I take her out to potty. She goes potty and I...

Control Unleashed class
I'm sooo excited about having a trainer that is teaching a control unleashed class. I've read the book and all, but it is more valuable to practice with folks that have actually applied it. Last night was our first class and we went over things like relaxation protocol, passive attention, reorienting...
