What is everyone feeding now?

    • Gold Top Dog

Innova Adult Maintenace topped with a bit of canned Blue for variety (sometimes).  I've started adding a teaspoon of garlic to each meal and I'm so surprised as to how much they enjoy that!   They seem much less itchy after adding the garlic.

They also get a variety of other things at varying times...frozen eggs, carrots, fruits (current fave is frozen blueberries), yogurt, canned mackerel to name a few.

Ben as usual is the oddball.  He's on prey model, all animal sourced nutrients now.  He looks better at 12 years old than he did at eight.  I supplement with fish oil and E, but that's all I do now apart from the meat/bones/offal.  Once a week he gets canned fish, but I'm backing off that much even now.

I'm switching Maggie over to the same.  She is 14 1/2 and starting to show some age for the first time ever - loss of vision in one eye, wanting to sleep apart from everyone, and slightly slower reflexes.  She eats, like 1/2 percent of her body weight so adding her in to Ben's regime will not break the budget.  And she can eat chicken, hallelujah!  I like with Ben, the results I've gotten with using beef heart for a primary muscle meat, and fresh raw liver every day to ensure high levels of B12, and I think Maggie will benefit greatly as well.  We'll see!  She's always gotten more fish than everyone, as a percentage of her diet.

Zhi and Lynn eat Core Ocean topped with stew one day and a rmb the next.  They get a fish oil supplement on kibble days.

Cord, Gus, Bet, and Ted are all on Diamond Naturals Extreme Athlete and raw meaty bones.  I use stew to top the kibble and add variety.  They get their fish oil with the stew.  Gus was on the Core, but when we switched over to running sheep in three pastures, and I retired Cord, he started dropping weight by the handful.  So I switched him to the Extreme and now we are happy and muscley again.  Cord gets some kind of vegetable oil each day - corn, sesame, coconut, or sunflower - and a poached egg.  Ted gets double fish oil to help him with training - new brain synapses need DHA!  They all get a poached egg about once a week, and a few ounces of canned fish some other day of the week.

The livestock guardian dogs get Extreme and fish oil.  Lu (11 year Pyrenees/Maremma) gets a hip joint supplement for a touch of arthritis she has.  Min gets the hip supplement, Extreme, a can of Pedigree puppy, corn and fish oil both, a poached egg, vitamin e, and a colostrum supplement.  She gets her meals split into two feedings so that she will eat more.

Coltrane the Aussie rescue is getting Extreme topped with stew, a RMB a couple times a week, a poached egg two or three times a week, corn and fish oil both, and vit e.

We had a squeeker of a budget last month and I had to go to Diamond's Hi Energy product instead of the Extreme and it was amazing the difference in the dogs that were on it (except the two LGDs who I've had for years, who thrive on anything it seems).  I hated the sticky, nasty poop in the yard, and their coats looked duller and felt crunchy.

I had no problem paying double for my bags of Naturals Extreme yesterday!

Kenya - Canidae ALS or Canidae Lamb and Rice, raw egg

Coke - Canidae Lamb and Rice (cannot have turkey)

    • Gold Top Dog

Sojos dog food mix. Add my own meat, which is usually beef, turkey, salmon or chicken.  Then whatever veggies we have and fruits. I try to give a good variety plus the once a week chicken wing or beef marrow for teeth.

Both Emma & Amelia are still on Blackwoods 3000.  I tried switching to something else and it had adverse effects.  They love the blackwoods so I guess I will just keep them on it.

I want to come to YOUR house for dinner! Stick out tongue   (btw--I LOVE your avatar--being a horse person I have a "thing" for any type of livestock guardian dogs)

I know a lady who breeds Border Collies & Aus. Sheperds for flyball and she actually feeds the Naturals extreme and her dogs are in impeccable condition.

Beau:  We just finished a bag of Nature's Logic and are now trying Wellness CORE.  He doesn't like the kibble size, though, so I think we'll be changing again when this bag is gone.  Kibble is only about 50% of his diet.  The other half is NV raw medallions.

Gyspy:  She has been eating Innova EVO reduced fat for a couple months now, and I am very happy with the results, so I think we will be sticking with this for awhile.  She also gets a few NV raw medallions thrown in from time to time.

Both of them also get extras like eggs, fish, yogurt, RMBs, marrow bones, and various supplements.

Kayla, California Natural Lamb/Rice, with a spoon of Evo meat

Tzu's Innova adult, with a spoon of Evo meat.

Foster dog gets the same as the Tzu's

They all get yogurt, eggs and RMBs,

I still feed Canidae and Innova.....with meats and eggs, cottage cheese, fish, buttered carrotts, potatoes and yams.......

Maze gets Healthwise Lamb and oatmeal mix. She was on Evo R.M but she's not active enough for it yet so I switched. She also gets cheese, a stuffed kong at night sometimes yougurt if I can afford it and feel like sharing. Lol.

Kameo is usually on No name cat food which surprisingly enough has made his coat soft and poofy. Lol I've just recently switched him to Purina Cat Chow and I think I'm going to keep him on that. As well he gets a joint supp in the morning with wet food.

Molly and Ben have been on Evo since Xmas... first time on it for both . Molly has been doing fantastic on it - great coat, she's trim and her stools are firm and small. Ben gained a bit of weight on it and so I cut back on the amount of food he got before I put him on Innova Sr. He's doing better after 3 weeks...weight back to normal but the jury is still out on his coat as he is blowing his fuzzy undercoat right now.

They both get Nupro joint supplement daily and toppers of canned Evo or NB a couple times a week.

Molly's kibble rotation: Evo and NB Potato & Duck
Ben's kibble rotation: NB Potato & Duck, California Natural and Innova Sr

    Tessa eats Pinnacle Trout

Diesel is eating the pinnacle chicken and oats, and i *think* ive finally found something besides pro plan kodi will eat- im slowly switchign her over to the pinnacle chicken as well.

Although i know that Petco will soon be carrying Wellness as well, so i may add that into the rotation!  Diesel also sometimes gets NB ultra premium..Kodi wont eat it, and it upsets Tessa stomach though!

I want to come to YOUR house for dinner!

Come on up!  I've finally gotten to where the humans actually eat as well as or better than the dogs.  tonight's menu - whole wheat spaghetti bake with homemade marinara, low fat cheese, and turkey meatballs (not homemade, lol).  And fresh baked bread, though I only get a teeny slice of that myself.

In the pot for the dogs:  a pork shoulder butt that I picked up at Compare ($1.19/lb!) last night.  That will cook until late tonight, when I'll debone and add parsnip, apples, jicama (Compare produce rocks), and papaya.  Tomorrow we'll add strawberries and raspberries from our berry picking expedition the other day, divide up into daily servings (it will make enough for three days), and some will go in the freezer and some in the bowls!

My improved cooking skills and motivation are directly related to what I do with the dogs.  This morning for instance, while I was poaching eggs for dogs, I made a couple for me.  In a previous life, I wouldn't have bothered with breakfast or would have had some high-fat, sugary cereal.

I'm also spoiling the kids for the processed stuff too, though that wasn't really a goal of mine.  My nine-year old suddenly doesn't like lunchmeat, PBJ, white bread, cheeseburgers, or any premade breaded meat items like frozen nuggets, chicken patties, fish sticks, etc.  And the other day Joey announced he didn't like nuggets any more either!  He never has been a fan of cheeseburgers.

So, good news is, I've got the only kids in the US, possibly, who don't like anything offered in a kid's meal at McD's.  The bad news is, more work for us, but, oh well.

Becca, For the kiddo's I have a pretty good recipe somewhere for homemade chicken tenders that you can freeze and then bake off. Pretty healthy and easy. My neice and nephew won't eat anything processed, and they really like these.

PM or email me if you happen to get a chance to find it!  I'd love that.  Time is sometimes pressing around lunchtime, though I've gotten pretty good at whipping stuff up - the big thing is cleanup, yuck!
