Which one of you still feed the canned food?

How many of you have used their servivce? I'm looking forward to using them, since I was unable to find any other Vet Nutritionist in New York area so far, so i think i'll just go with them.

I've never used the www.betterdogcare.com service, but she used to be a member here and is still active on her own message board. She does know her stuff but it's important to clarify that she is not a veterinary nutritionist; she's a canine care and nutrition consultant. Big difference, but there's a pretty big price difference in her services and some others that are available.

Is there a way to find a Veterinary Nutritionist? I can't locate any in NY Area, i used Google. I would love to find someone who can sit down with me and tell me what to feed, and what to add in there - I would pay for the service, doesn't matter if it is a little more or a little less. I just wonder where can I find one. If anyone knows, please refer me :) This food recall issue doesn't let me sleep well at night.

Carol, California Natural may not be made at the same plant as the recalled foods. I hope someone will come along with a link ( I couldn't find it) but they have at least 2 plants and I thought the cuts and gravy style foods were only made at one of them

It's made at the South Dakota plant..with all the recalls it made me panic to be truthful..there is always a what if....but I haven't heard of any recalls comming out of that one plant so I am going to trust them and continue giving him the California Natural he is my special needs little dog.. So I am keeping my fingers crossed all will work out...Thanks for you're help

I'm guessing the best way to find one for a face-to-face consultation would be through a veterinary school?

Supposedly this site has veterinary nutritionists who formulate diets:

PomMommy - are you in New York City ?   Try calling the Animal Medical Center and see if they know of a veterinary nutritionist

If you're in upstate New York you can call Cornell University

Here's a link to UC Davis' website and prices of their formulated recipes.

Honestly though, I think I'd have Monica Segal do one for me, if I was going to pay someone.  I think Mordonna is also doing them for a fee now [linkhttp://betterdogcare.com/]http://betterdogcare.com/[/link]  I would trust her to do one for my dogs.

Here is the link to Monica Segal's website;   [linkhttp://www.monicasegal.com/]http://www.monicasegal.com/[/link]. She does consultations for $200.

Speaking of Monica Segal, I ordered 3 booklets from her on April 23rd and got an order conformation, but nothing else.
Are they really THAT backed up, you think?

Just as an FYI for PomMommy -- neither Monica Segal nor Mordanna are veterinary nutritionists.  I believe both of them are certified in Animal Health Care from the University of Guelph.

Even though they're not veterinary nutritionists, I'd trust either of them to formulate a well balanced diet.

I ordered some booklets last fall when there wasn't all this concern over pet food and it took about ten days to receive them; the site now says booklets are backordered for a week; I hope yours come soon.

Back to the canned food, I really don't feed canned food but usually have a can or two on hand to top Bubblegums kibble in case I didn't get to making her any meat.  I know Eagle Pack (who makes kibble in their own plant) uses Menu food for their canned but in a different area than the recalled foods. I myself am also nervous about the cross contamination issue...BUT, according to Eagle website, their canned food is safe...and all of their foods are tested.

    Cazzy--

It is my understanding that Canidae does NOT use Menu for any manufacturing.  I have also heard that Evanger's manufactures their canned goods, though I have not had it confirmed.
