Coincidences and good timing...our PetSmart just started carrying Blue Buffalo just before Christmas, and I switched my girls to it from Nutro Natural.

For anyone who would like my homecooked recipe feel free to email me. You WILL have to email since right now my PM's don't work.....and I actually prefer email anyway since I can get it faster.

It is an AWESOME recipe!! [:D]  Now if only I could get her to give me some human recipes[;)] lol

We're sticking with Innova dry in the morning, and the evening rotation of Solid Gold and Natural Balance  (and occasional Blue Buffalo) canned, with Nature's Variety raw medallions a couple of times a week.

And to think I was eyeing the Nutro pouches in the store last week.  Thank goodness I decided against it!

You can pick my brain all you want on people recipes.  BUT I don't measure much of anything....I cook by look, taste, texture, feel....the palm of my hand is often my teaspoon....I pour spices in my hand til it looks about right....and that's usually with salt to add to the pasta water.......and since I don't USE salt much I have to remind myself that some stuff NEEDS it......so following my "recipes" is rather tough.

I love to cook....it satisfies some deep primal nurturing urge in me I guess.  I also love to create so it's not uncommon for me to walk out onto the deck and cut a handful of fresh herbs to add to homemade meatloaf.  And I think PART of that is instinct.  In the past 24 years of marriage I have created ONE meal that we flat out couldn't eat.  I put pork chops and apples in the slow cooker.  Should have been wonderful...but what I got was a pot of greasy gunk![:-][&o][:'(]

I think that a lot of younger folks are AFRAID of the kitchen....afraid that they'll screw up a meal and it won't be "perfect".  Know what?  If you screw up there is ALWAYS Mac and Cheese in a box as backup.  My future daughter in law is soooo totally anal about the kitchen (mom never let her IN the kitchen) and she spends hours and hours and hours slaving over a really simple meal.  And she hates it.  Cooking should be FUN.....and easy.  Not a chore.

But, if ya'll want recipes, tell me what kind of stuff you like to eat, and be prepared to try to interpret a smidge of this, a dash of that.....until it LOOKS right.....[:D]

This is what I feed my dogs. Canidae.

But I am freaking out because Zeus is stuck on nasty alpo cookies.  The neighbor turned him on to them.  He is such a picky eater and I worry about his weight, so if he eats something then I let him have it.

I am in a state of panic.

So far so good.  But, I'll not hesitate to feed  Canidae and Innova either.

sorry to interrupt....just testing out my magic powers and I didn't think you'd mind!

I am feeding Wellness kibble with homecooked recipe from dogiebag.com. When the wellness is done, I may try California Natural since it is simpler.

My dogs have been eating homecooked and raw ONLY since the recall but i actually had nothing to do with the recall. My butcher was cleaning out the freezer.I took home 200lbs of meat and a huge bag of chicken organs and necks for 20$ We dont have quite enough freezer space to atore it all so they have been eating it every day.I am very hesitant to go back! The look fantastic! No more gas and the poops are just disintegrating. Not to mention boy was it cheap!

Glenda, Have you ever thought about show business?  I think you would make a wonderful Martha Stewart or Rachel Ray ( in the talk show sense, I am not really fond of either) of the dog world!!!!!![:D]

I ask that every time I cook for my dog. Since the recall I've started feeding more home cooked than I feed before. I want to make the switch to homecooked only but I do add kibble just because I want to make sure she's getting the nutrition in the kibble that she may not be getting from homecooked

Unless the homecooked diet you're feeding is carefully balanced and you know it provides the right balance of nutrients, if you're replacing more than a third of the total amount of calories you feed your dogs with homecooked, you need to give them a vitamin and mineral supplement. That information is from one of Monica Segal's booklets.

Mine are getting mostly homecooked but I had started this about a month before the recall.  I am just now having enough time to get some meals together for the furkids (what with the 3yr old an 7mo old hu-kids :)
I am doing www.dogiebag.com. I throw it all in a pot, cook it, mash with a potato masher to blend and then stir in the supplements.  The recipes are based on strombeck recipes, according to the vet who wrote the recipe.

Dogs are looking good.  Lexi, my bichon, who has had a hard time growing hair (It's there but it was sparse and very slow growing since a rabies vax reaction in july '05) has had a bloom of hair, it's everywhere, thicker than before and is growing a little faster.  that's nice to see.

You can't beat the poops, they crumble if i don't scoop them, and they're small, firm and very low odor.  Took the dogs in for their big check up and brought stool sample from each of them.  My vet asked what they eat because the texture of their poop was "so nice"  LOL  What a funny comment.
My vet is ok w/the recipe also.

I have a 5lb bag of nutro nc lamb/rice sitting in the closet. I was going to use as needed if I got behind in making batches of food, but now I'm not so sure.

I'm waiting to see if anything develops...

I'm going to continue feeding what I have been- Eagle Pack Holistic kibble and Innova EVO canned. Btw, I would prefer to feed Eagle Pack canned, but they're not grain free. I think he gets plenty of grains in his kibble and I want his mix in to basically just be meat.

Anyway, I trust Eagle Pack much more than any other company out there right now. [:)] I love the ingredients, they've been in the pet food business a long time, have their own plant, lots of quality guidelines, professional customer service, etc.

Gee Glenda, you cook like i do.  It is so hard to give recipes when you use pinches, dabs, a little,a handful, etc.  I often start with a real recipe and think "Gee, I bet this will taste better than that in here" and change to to the "this."  And i think some spice needs to be about 1 1/2 times what the recipe calls for, etc, etc.  And i think 'I do think bell peppers would really improve the taste', etc.  Before i know it it hardly seems like the same recipe!
