So what do we all feed now?

I will continue to feed Innova dry...but will stay away from cans for a while..The dog's are enjoying cooked chicken with veggies and fruits on there kibble..And it will stay that way untill I feel comfortable with cans again.

I was feeding mostly homecooked but will probably do all now.  I did get emails back from Evangers and Blue Buffalo though ensuring me that thier product was made in thier own private plants. I've never fed Blue Buff but I have Evangers.

I will probably switch to home cooked for a while. I've been wanting to change my cat's diet for a while now anyway, but I hate having to change the dog's...I had just switched to a food I really liked. [&o] Kibble is SO much more convenient for me...but feeding them commercial foods just makes me too nervous for now. They're finishing the bags they're on now, and then it'll be home cooked and raw for a few months at least.

I'll continue to feed Eagle Pack; I'm glad Jessie's back on it after the prescription elimination diet. She had dandruff on the prescription diet and lost a little muscle tone in her rear legs; now that she's back on Eagle Pack her coat shines like a newly waxed car and the muscles in her rear legs are larger again. Until this is all straightened out I won't use any canned food produced by the 2 plants or feed Jessie or the cats anything with wheat though.

I am feeding Innova EVO dry mixed with Natural Balance duck and potato dry.  I also feed part of this mixed with canned in the AM.  I have been using Cal. Nat. canned, but I think I am going to switch to Solid Gold canned for awhile.

I just ordered 18 cans of Wellness canned. But for now they are on hold and Molly will eat her Timberwolf Bison kibble mixed with two small  homemade liver treats broken and mixed in with the kibble. She seems to like it so why not?

I will continue as normal with the Abady Classic Granular for the dogs.  I am a bit concerned about the cats though feeding them the Wal-Mart Special Kitty.  I get the dry kind though, no pouches or canned but am still concerned.

I will continue to feed Chicken Soup to Raja and Lacey, and mix in canned NB CS and I just tried Innova soft food today and really liked it. Also they get brown rice, chicken and veggies with their foods.

And my mom will continue to feed her dogs Nutro and Kibbles n' Bits....there is no changing that.

how do we balance homecooked diet so our animals do well and get the proper nutrition?

I ask that every time I cook for my dog. Since the recall I've started feeding more home cooked than I feed before. I want to make the switch to homecooked only but I do add kibble just because I want to make sure she's getting the nutrition in the kibble that she may not be getting from homecooked. I'm also feeding my foster homecooked mostly but it's a little difficult because the diet for Giz has to be different than the diet for Toffee so I don't know how I'm going to homecook two different meals for two different dogs, still working on that one but it's not as much because of the recall as it is me just wanting to make a switch to homecooked only.

I am very seriously looking into home cooked/RAW.  This is not the only reason, I actually have wanted to do this for a while but didn't have the space in the apartment to freeze things in bulk, and now that we have a house we can just put a chest freezer in the basement.  The two other dogs in Jack's class are fed RAW and they look fantastic.  They are just radient.  It is not something I am planning on doing right away, however.  I want to what until this thing with Jack's leg is resolved and I want to do research to make sure I am doing this right.  I'll probably end up doing a half and half sort of thing for a while.

There have been many times when I thought of getting one of these canned brands to use in Kongs, but didn't because Sally is allergic to wheat.  Thank God for small favors I guess.

Exactly what she has been eating since I got her. I trust Eagle Pack! I hope nothing happens to break that trust.

Same here.  I have no reason to change or try anything different ... and hopefully, I won't get a reason.

I'm on the same thing Solid Gold kibble/RAW. I just bought a new bag of kibble today... and I've been giving it side long glances. (bags of food last FOREVER with two little girls and a RAW mix, so I know my current bag is safe).

This rat poison thing is really scary.

I may do homecooked/RAW for awhile.

For anyone who would like my homecooked recipe feel free to email me.  You WILL have to email since right now my PM's don't work.....and I actually prefer email anyway since I can get it faster.

I do ask everyone who I send the recipe to CONSIDER making a donation to the MS Walk.......but I'm sure not gonna turn down any requests.  Never have, never will.  The recipe is actually just a handy way for me to remind folks that the Walk is something I do and I appreciate support.

All that said, right now my crew is eating Blue.  I just started with that a couple weeks ago to see how they like it and it likes them.  So far so good.  But, I'll not hesitate to feed  Canidae and Innova either.

I guess my basic feeling is that you can't live your life in fear.  One week flame broiled burgers are better for me than McDonalds, the next they are gonna give me cancer.  Eggs...have moved around from the good/to/bad list so many times my head spins...butter, margerine, transfats.....oye!!  We can make ourselves crazy trying to keep up with what WE should and shouldn't eat.

Now, our dogs of course don't get the same variety that we do, unless we homecook and alter the veggies/protein in the food.  And I guess my feeling is that by rotating a number of excellent quality kibbles and homecooking, I'm doing everything I can to acheive a good balance...oh, and they get raw once a week as well.  I don't trust ANY recipe, mine included to be totally complete, nor do I trust ANY kibble to be either.  That's why I do the combo.
