So what do we all feed now?

I'm going to continue with Innova, California Natural and Natural Balance, but add in more home-cooked.

(I'm a new member but a long-time lurker.  I registered this morning just so I could e-mail Glenda for her recipe.  Thank you, Glenda!)

This is a pretty quick update/change...

I had Wolfie's urine analyzed today since they didn't get a sample at the vet when he got bloodwork (from the recall stuff).  His BUN was high at 29, and his urine pH was 8.6 [&:]  We are assuming this is from being on EVO and a high-protein diet.   I am going to eliminate the EVO and just feed the Natural Balance Potato & Duck (mixed with canned) for two weeks and take another urine sample.  If it has decreased then I will know it really was from EVO....

thanks everyone for all your opinions.  I've been feeding life4k9 and I thought it was really good, but when I posted about barley and is it a gluten i was getting some responses saying it is.  Well, then that would explain a lot about Dusty's potty's  and the guaranteed analysis I guess shows that it's a lot of carbs.  and he's overly hungry and gaining too much weight.  Gabby doesn't like the food unless I add the canned and Peanut eats anything!
But according to some barley is good for digestion.  So what do you all think?  Stay with it for a while longer or try to switch?  if barley's a gluten then I have to
    stop this food.
    Here we go again!!!!!!!!!!

    Thanks so much.

Glenda, Have you ever thought about show business?  I think you would make a wonderful Martha Stewart or Rachel Ray ( in the talk show sense, I am not really fond of either) of the dog world!!!!!![:D]

I agree [:D]  I think that the Food Network should have a show on dog food recipes (they could show different recipes, go visit dog food companies, etc etc). [I'm such a dork]

You guys are tooo flipping funny!!

I'm old.  I'm not old old, but I'm way out of the demo that brings in the big advertising bucks...and I think I'm probably starting to look my age.....when folks on the elevator at the hospital tell you "honey, you look worn out" first thing in the MORNING, that's showing the age!  The tiny little teeth could be capped I suppose, but they prevent me from having a lovely smile...too little to have closed right even after YEARS of orthadonture......and, I've got a wierd voice.  I sound like a little kid.  Plus, I hate even having my picture taken!  I did do some voice work for an ad agency when I lived in MS, but only because he had clients up North who didn't like the Southern drawl.....which my family still thinks I have.

Somehow, I think I'd best pass on that idea!  Unless some multi-billionare wants to blow a HUGE wad of cash....[:D]

Animal Planet where I live used to have a show with various nutritionists.  i know Dr. Jane Bicks was on at one time and I used to watch her  a lot.  Now Animal Planet doesn't do that anymore.  With all this high tech million tv channels, you'd think we'd find more on pet nutrition.  bet we will see something now.

Yeah really.  I know there is a show on Animal Planet called K9 Karma (?) or something like that.  The host of that went on a "tour" of Whole Foods with a dog nutritionist and they discussed foods that are good to feed for a homecooked diet (although they didn't go into any detail about balancing nutrients, etc).

I didn't know he had eaten some of the food on the recall list; I hope he's okay. I've heard of the possibilty of EVO causing high liver values.

Yeah, he had been eating some Eukanuba wet pouches several times a week (I get them for free, lol).  I looked and they were included in the recalled serial numbers [:@].  Definatley the last time I will be using food just because it's free....he's back to eating Cal. Nat. & Solid Gold canned.  However, his kidney function is perfectly fine and he hasn't had any symptoms whatsoever so that is a good thing.  I am almost positive that the BUN and urine pH are a result of EVO (he's been eating it for about..2-3 weeks? now).  If the values are lower after feeding the NB Potato & Duck for two weeks, I will know for certain.

oh my goodness, I hope he'll be ok.  I just re- read this thread and didn't realize about his count.  Keep us posted and I hope he'll be ok.  Yes, I know too the higher protein foods cause high levels, let's just hope it's that.

I will still be feeding TWO and canned wysong or EVO in their kongs. I only use the 95% meat canned products and grain free kibble so I feel pretty confident in the choices of food I made for my dogs.....

I'm still feeding Oma's pride raw, but I like to give dry once in a while. I was feeding Timberwolf organic and Back to Basics this winter. I'm afraid to try them again. On our other lists, a new food is added in the recall almost daily. And may I add T.W.O. did not confirm or deny whether they were on the recall. I know there was a customer rep. on the list can you confirm anything. I'm new so I hope I posted in the right spot[8|]
