A few details on the recall

    • Bronze
    Hi!

Just wanted to check in and let everyone know that Wellness and Old Mother Hubbard is not part of the Recall.

    Thank you

Chewbecca, I agree totally with what you are saying, however, you might want to tone it down a smidge so that it doesn't sound like a personal attack?

While I respect you and what you're saying, Glenda, I'm not going to deny that I intentionally meant to directly post what I posted. I'm not going to sit back and imply anything. I'm not going to try to beat snotty implications by giving them back.
When Edie "asked" why I exercise my pit bull on a treadmill, well, I KNOW where he was going with that...so, if I have something to say, I'm going to say it and I'm not going to imply something in a question form. And, I think that finally, a call out was due.

I'm sorry if I'm viewed as a B*t*h or a rotten person, but I'm not pussyfooting or ignoring snotty remarks today.

I can afford to feed my dog more expensive food, so I do.  But if for some reason I couldn't in the future, I would have no problem feeding him cheaper food.  I see it like this -- it's better to have a dog in a good home eating the best the owners can provide, than that same dog in a shelter or worse.

Look, this could have happened to ANY manufacturer of ANY quality of food!

They DON'T KNOW what is causing this.

They have TESTED the ingredients AND the food and can't figure it out.

The only thing they do know is that the problems started at about the same time they got a new supplier - they haven't found anything wrong with the ingredients from that supplier.

You can't PREVENT something when you have no idea what it is.

The took the safe route and reccalled the food anyway - which says a lot about the company.

If they find out what is causing the problems THEN we can decide if the company's quality control is lacking. If the problem is caused by something that is normally checked for and was missed they should be held liable. If the problem is due to something that has never been found - then how could they have known to look for it?

I do agree.  I also think people are failing to realize that this has to do with the manufacturer of the foods, not the actual companies themselves.

The only thing that bothers me is that it seems all of the companies that are "mass produced" seem to be on the list, and usually things can go wrong much easier (more employees/more room for error, etc) in that situation than a small operation.   However, that is JMO.

There was a link to a web page that I saw many months ago, that compared the difference in cost per serving between the dog junkfoods and quality foods like Canidae, Natural Balance, Innova, etc..  The difference per serving was in pennies, isince you fed less of the better food.  When I see people walking around with a bottle of $1.25 water in the pet store and then loading their cart with Kibbles and Bits, that tells me alot about their value system.....

to prepare their food with ingredients that you know are healthy

but how do we know? I can't grow sweet potatoes and chickens myself, I'm dependent on people to supply me with safe products.

Agree. That doesn't apply to dogs only - *I* buy myself crap, at times, when the pocket book is thin. But, I'd love to eat sushi any given day.

It is my understanding that the recall only effects the wet foods with "chunks."

From the article I read this morning, I didn't get that it was wet food only issue. My dog's Nature's Recipe is not on a recall list, but my cat's Authority is. If it's wet food only, then I suppose we're fine?!

I use Hill Country Fare solid pack to make little meatballs for my dogs sups & meds (thyroid for my 12 year old golden) because the consistancy is just perfect for making them.  When i saw it was listed I almost freaked out.  Found the list and found it was only the ones that had chunks in them, like the Beef Stew & gravy.  None of the cans of the solids were listed, but taking no chances and dumped them.  Since this happened, they have been getting sups/meds in 'tater balls" made with mashed potatoes, sans salt and butter.

i saw nothing about dry being recalled, any brand.  I also read that most of the reported recalls have not had a problem, but this is done strickly as a precaution.  A smart move if you ask me.

Are those folks who are walking around with the designer water EDUCATED??  Do they KNOW they are feeding crap?  How many times was that water bottle refilled from the tap at home?  I refill mine with the filtered water, but they are handy to carry around.  I maybe buy a bottle once or twice a month.

What gives any of us the right to JUDGE them based on appearances?  What gives any ?of us the right to judge OTHERS for any reason?

I don't like bottled water at all.  I have two cases of it in the garage left from when i stocked up for Hurricane Rita over 1 1/2 years ago.  I had a bunch of gallon jugs of it for the dogs and even they didn't seem to like it.  BUT I did, on occasion, take a bottle of water when traveling, saved the bottle, and like you Glenda, refill it from my tap, not filtered, just plain tap water as it tastes the best to me.  i like to freeze them to take fishing.  DIL also gives me bottles she has used, i wash and reuse them myself.

come on, if someone posts on this board, they are asking for people's opinions. If they don't like the opinions or advice or judgements they get, they are free to just ignore them.

I'm a bit spoiled by my fridge that dispenses ice and filtered water.  I have well water so I appreciate the filter, but basically the tap water tastes just like it ought to....like nothing!  I can NOT drink the water in town....smells like someones swimming pool to me!

Mudpuppy, yes, you are correct that if someone posts they should EXPECT opinions, but MUST we make personal value judgements such as were made above, and MUST we we ugly in the way we tell someone they are feeding garbage?  I can come right out and say "that's crap and your dog shouldn't be forced to eat that spit" or I can work around my personal opinion and phrase the same thing in such a way that the poster MIGHT hear what I'm saying and not run for cover.

To each his own. Trying to control how others say things, especially on the internet, is a lost battle.

You really should not try to rule or control or shape what others have to say (outside of vulgarities or obscenities if you are the moderator) -in their own words- implied, or not. It borders on the fundamentals of free speech. Last time I checked this was a public forum. Everybody has their own way of saying things. As long as the internet and bb's like this are around, you will just have to accept that.

"If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen!"  My mother used to say that a lot, and boy was she right!

"If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen!"

Why does this "kitchen" need to be so hot? It's true that in a forum this size there are ;people with many different points of view, but thankfully the majority of them believe in treating others with respect and being polite in their responses.
