A few details on the recall

If one of your children or friends' children died from a bad batch of Gerber food, would you still continue to feed your children other Gerber products, regardless of the facility where it came from?

So have you stopped eating spinach? Or green onions? Both those foods were pulled from grocery stores . . . it was the supplier, the grower, where the problems originated. Same as in this case, the supplier, not the manufacturer of the pet foods. We feed Natural Choice dry food for our senior dog after having tried all the other premium foods because he has a corn allergy and most have corn and he didn't like the others that didn't. We do not do it to save a buck.

BTW, out west (CO, UT, NM, WY) , NONE of those premium brands are sold at Petsmart or PetCo

While that may be true, you can't say "Any brand that can be purchased at PetSmartCoWhatever is not a 'premium' brand" because that simply isn't true.

Oh, and I totally understand that there are plenty of lurkers, but the particular person you were responding to is quite knowledgeable.

I think it's about time for me to step in here as the official self proclaimed expert on nothing.....

    ENOUGH!

I fed crap when I didn't KNOW that I was feeding crap[:'(] however I patently refuse to believe that MOST people who do know better buy the cheaper foods to save money.

As far as using ANY of these lines, I wouldn't take the risk.  Remember with Diamond, the recall was rather small in scope at first, but kept growing and growing and growing.  And, they aren't absolutely positive it IS the wheat gluten....they only suspect last I heard.

Yeah, it does bother me that they still haven't found anything definitive.  I think they were assuming that since it was the only ingredient that they had switched suppliers with.
    • Gold Top Dog
Yep, and we all know what they say about folks who ass/u/me!!

I simply flat out would not take a chance, not unless I was positive that the wet and dry were made by DIFFERENT manufacturers in different plants.

I have read on here and other boards some things to the affect of "I cant pay THAT much for dog food" or "I dont even spend THAT  much on my own families food" or "You're only paying for the 'holistic gimmick" and many, many more similar excuses to not pay out for a good food.Alot of people just dont think their dogs are worth paying the extra $$$ for.
There are a couple of members here who feed what most regard as a crap food, they have been shown time and time again evidence of what is in their food. These people actually DO know better but refuse to change......

I am fortunate my husband has a very green thumb. Our spinach comes from our land. Onions, OTH [:'(] I don't go near them.

Wowzer. I guess I'm the worst owner ever because I feed this food knowingly. I needed food to up the protein in Ben's kibble and yes, expense factored into it. Given the choice between food that met my needs, that was over $1/can for a single feeding, and 25 cents, I went for the less expensive choice.

Honestly guys, if we start refusing to feed anything that comes under a shadow like this, we're going to end up with a mighty small list of food choices. Innova, Diamond, Merrick - they've all had "accidents" at various times. Diamond implicates Solid Gold and Natural Balance and several othe small players. Now this latest incident implicates many large companies who we find out, outsource some of their operations and thus the quality control we were told was the main leverage of the "big guys."

So, I don't know when we draw the line, say stuff happens, and go on. I eat spinach, and lots of it, by the way.

For those who do not value the life of a dog....they will continue to find the cheapest thing to put down in front of the dog to keep it living.  I bet they would not even notice the effect of different food on their pet.  I feel sorry for those animals.  The best way to feed your dog is to prepare their food with ingredients that you know are healthy and to monitor the effects different foods have on them.  But then again, there are some humans that do not feed their children very well either.

I think this whole tragedy has come to light now with it in the national news and I hope more pet owners will finally realize the corruptness of the pet food industry and take steps to protect their pets' lives.

How exactly is this evidence that the food industry is corrupt?  When the reports began coming in they immediately recalled their food.  Many of the companies that recalled their products did not have reported deaths, they just were also associated with that same company.   I'm not exactly sure what the purpose of all these simmilar posts is, but I can guess from the website in your signature.  I don't think it's appropriate to use sucha tragic situation to further your agenda.

I know of ONE member of this forum who feeds a food that WORKS for her dogs, and has worked for generations of her families dogs.  And she supplements with whole fresh foods as well.  Lets not start beating that horse again.

The average guy on the street has NO freaking clue that the stuff in dog food is basic crap.  DS works as a Blue rep and people absolutely are stunned to realize the difference in the foods.  And more than a few opt for the better quality once they know better.  He's tripled the Blue sales in that store in TWO weekends, so people are willing to learn and for the most part, once they do, they go with the better foods.

This kind of judgemental garbage is why I usually avoid these threads.  And I have a good deal of knowledge to share, but I don't enjoy the crap.

    **Content Removed** Refuse to change????

**Content Removed** If people want to continue to feed a non-premium food, that's THEIR business and they should not have to be subjected to YOUR judgment. **Content Removed**
These people don't owe you an answer as to WHY they feed what they feed or do what they do.

Chewbecca, I agree totally with what you are saying, however, you might want to tone it down a smidge so that it doesn't sound like a personal attack?
