My TWO Finally Arrived!!

    • Gold Top Dog
Let me know how your dogs like the Elk v. Bison. It seems to have the same ingredients besides the 1st one. Also, do they smell the same? Just wondering if they are pretty much the same in taste and smell. Not like you would know the taste part!

If you looked closely and took a smell of both you couldn't tell the difference!!  AND I have been tempted to taste test as the cin. bark makes it smell oh so good, but I have been able to restrain myself thus far! [:D]Yes, only the protein source is different.

SO I guess I will begin my "rotation" sooner than I expected!  Since the ocean blue formula has the same protein, fat fiber ratios as the elk and bison I thinkI will put in an order for that next month. Then if all goes well I will rotate through the 3 formulas after every 33# bag (so about every 2 1/2 weeks or so).

I am going to have to watch JJ's weight closely. He has lost almost 2 pounds in the last month.  We took him to the vet today to get a blood draw for his thyroid and he has been on thyroid meds for the past 3 weeks so it may be the meds that are causing it or it may be not enough TWO.

POOP REPORT ( for Twin!)  [;)]

So not thrilled today. . . things were a bit off today though. This mornings was pretty good, pretty firm and while not HUGE, not small either.

Tonight however. .  .We went to the biweekly greyhound walk this evening and this is where about 30 greyhounds and their owners all meet for a long walk around different parts of our beautiful city.  It is an awesome event and DH and I look forward to going and the dogs get sooooo excited when they see the other greys. Tonight's pooh was  on the soft side, but this could be "excited poop" from the festivities![:D]
    OR
it might be from adding in 1/3 ELK into their bison formula.I fed them about 2 hours before the walk, so not sure if it had enough time to go through their system or not.   I am hoping it was just "excited poop" and not from the formula addition.

Also though tonight it was a little embarrasing. . . Prudence was taking a BIG pooh and a couple other greyhound walkers commented on her large volume! [:o]   It didn't help that the poop was a little soft.

I think they were also taken back a bit by the different color.[:D]  These are folks that feed EUK, so how good could their dogs poop be on that stuff???

Anyway, a little embarassing, I think they thought "what in the world are they feeding her![8D]

Will have to let you know if it is still soft tomorrow cuz that may mean that it is the switch to the Elk formula.

    Thanks jjsmom06! [:D]

I thoroughly enjoy your poop reports! I like hearing your experiences and in depth responses. [:)] It is so nice too, like you said, to be going through the same transitions at the same time. I would definitely love to hear about your dogs morning elimination. I hope all goes well with the Elk...I would also like to eventually rotate the formula's without having to deal with all the transitioning...but maybe once their systems get used to it everything will be OK...and it will be easier to rotate within TWO's foods.

This is what their website says (sorry if you already knw this):

"A standard measuring cup holds about 150 grams or about 5 ounces of food. Your dog's nutritional requirements will vary according to age, breed, climate, stress and activity levels. When switching to Timberwolf Organics' pet foods gradually increase the amount fed while decreasing the previous food over a 5 - 14 day period. It is prudent to switch any new food gradually but because Timberwolf Organics' pet foods are unique your pet may need more time to increase the bacteria necessary to completely digest some of the ingredients. We have included direct fed microbials or "probiotics" to assist in the development of beneficial colonies. Over feeding can also cause digestive upset and should be adjusted accordingly. You will find that you will feed as little as half of what you were previously feeding. PLEASE DO NOT OVERFEED! After an initial adjustment period your dog should have small well formed, well digested stools with no odor. In fact, one of the most often heard compliments we receive is how small the stools are and how little odor there is. We do not use any artificial stool hardeners however, so it is possible that stress, stomach upset due to eating from garbage or yard, bacterial or viral infection, an insufficient adjustment period or overfeeding can cause stools that are not well digested. We feel it is better to not use stool hardeners so that one may observe if there are any problems."

This beings the case...maybe once the "initial" transitional period has passed...which could take longer for some dogs...all, in theory, should be well. I sure hope so!! [&:]

    POOP REPORT!! [8|]

OK, so I gave in and snapped open a can of EVO 95% Chicken/Turkey...although I only drained the watery broth into his kibble and maybe a tiny scoop of it. He just goes NUTS...it makes me so happy to see! [;)]

Next defication came today at around 6pm. Good news is that there was a very small amount, which is nice because I think the food is getting aborbed if not too much comes back out. Also, he only poops once when he first gets up and then again in the late afternoon/early evening. Tonight's was a bit on the soft side and lighter in color. Could definitely have been the canned mixed in...my mistake for that...but it was definitely no where near being cow pies! [:)] Still got a "darn" from my end!

Anyway, I mixed 50/50 for tonight's meal. I just really want to get him off that Canidae...I don't like how he is doing on it at all. I also put some more of the brothy part and a little scoop of canned. Hopefully things firm up for the morning round! I have a feeling that if I did not add water or canned in this transition his stools would be firm. Maybe I will try that next time?

    The saga continues!! [8D]

I had seen this before but it has been a few weeks, so this was a very helpful reminder [:D]  Thank you!
I transitioned them off pinancle for 6 days and when they started getting the gas and stomach gurgles I added in the Prozyme because I remembered what the website said about the extra bacteria needed.

I hope I am not overfeeding, DH thinks I am underfeeding. . .what do you guys think?....

    the bag says:
    51-80 pounds= 2 -  41/4 cups

We just had them weighed at the vets yesterday and they are  74 pounds and 79 pounds.
I have been feeding them about 3 1/4 cups of dry a day and about 1/2 cup or less of  crockpotted meat or evangers.

    Todays poop report:
They both pooped this morning after they got up and they were both pretty firm (all peices were well formed, but once in the bag they kinda lost their shape- does this happen to anyone else?).  Odor was definatly less and the volume wasn't as much as last nights on the greyhound walk.[:D]
Twin- maybe your are right. . . .maybe they just need a little longer to adjust fully to the food???
They seem just as interested in the ELK as the Bison. I accidently spilled the bag of Elk last night on the dining room floor and you should have seen them go to town  picking up the kibble! You would have thought they hadn't eaten in a  week! [:D]  I didn't even have time to register that the bag feel on the floor before they were right on it!

Hey- no poop report from Rick yesterday! How's the pups poop Rick?

I only had a sample bag of TWO Bison so I could only get two meals from it.

I just came from the store "The Big Bad Woof" and they were out of TWO samples (I planned to get a couple of packs) so I settled for snagging another Evo regular dry sample. [;)]

Since I have a fairly new 15 pound bag of Barking At The Moon and a 7.5 pound bag of Pinnacle Duck & Potato also purchased last week as well as partial bags of Pinnacle Trout, Cal Natural Lamb and Cal Natural Chicken I thought I'd hold off a bit on a full blown TWO trial (i.e. 4 pound bag).

I can mix any of the above with Barking (or Evo) and get nice firm, low volume, low odor poops.  I mix from 1/3 to 1/2 Barking or Evo.

I think that sounds like a great amount...you might even be able to up it to 3 1/2-3 3/4...since they are closer to that 80lb mark. Either way, you could just see how they are doing on the current amount, and if they loose weight add some more kibble. [:)] I still have to figure out my amounts....
Twin- maybe your are right. . . .maybe they just need a little longer to adjust fully to the food???

That's exactly what I am thinking...just by the smell of it TWO is a very unique food! I am sure there are some dogs that need a month to transition...and some that don't need any transition at all....we just have to see what works the best for "our" dogs...and we do this by monitoring their poop!! [:D]

That's funny 'cuz I did the same thing the other day! I was pouring the lasts of the Canidae from its 20lb bag into a ziploc and...of course...I spilled it all over the floor. What's even funnier...is neither animal touched any pieces! HA HA HA....poor Canidae...

That is pretty much how my boys poop was this morning. It was all together...a tad on the soft side...and kinda lost its shape when I picked it up. I am happy though, because much more formed than yesterday afternoons. Also, they still are and always have been odorless! [:)]

Do you guys consider odorless, like, if you can't smell it AT ALL, or if you can only smell it when your face is near it picking it up?

Also, Ella's poops are always formed on T.O., but if I give her something else with her T.O., it can end up being soft or losing its form when I put it in the bag.
    • Gold Top Dog
    Rebecca-

Yes, when I say my pups stools are odorless...I mean there is absolutely NO odor to them whatsoever. I am the weird one that looks like I am actually sniffing his poop...not that close, but I do go out of my way to try and get a whiff....usually when I am picking it up. Either way, I haven't been able to smell any odor at all! [:D] A big plus for mom!
    • Gold Top Dog
Oh. Ella's poop has an odor.
But it's not like it was on NV.
EW. The NV made her poop stinky!

Aghhh yes! I use to feed NV frozen raw and I know that raw diets aren't suppose to make stinky poop but his did for my pup!

My guys have always had a little foul odor (some days more than others and on the pinnacle it was BAD!) But the last couple of days the odor was very, very low. I didn't really try to smell it, but usually when I bend down to do the pickup it is pretty obvious and then when sealing off the poop bag I get a big cloud of fumes come up but this hasn't been the case. Infact DH commented on that today so even he is noticing it.

That is so funny! I love your way with words..."big cloud of fumes!" [sm=rofl.gif] That one had me laughing!

Rick- what a great name for a pet food store. . .I love it![:D]  So I am assuming they carry all TWO formulas then??
When you go in there next if you think of it can you see what the costs are on their 33 pound bags of bison or elk??? I was wantingto compare the "instore prices".
I was shocked to find that I paid about $15 less for this bag size by going on the TWO website than by purchasng from the one store in town that carries it.

I was also shocked about the no tax charge. . .what is up with that? Did anyone get charged tax when they ordered online??

    Should I start charging a entertainment fee??[:D]
