Dog not eating.

No she hasn't started anything new on the same hw meds, hasn't gotten any shot, and i changed her food about a month ago i think but not recently.  She does like the little toys better than the big ones, but after this the little toys are going to be gone.  She may have at something else.  This all happened when DH left her outside alone which i always watch her when she is in the back yard.  She still hasn't thrown up since Saturday morning but has lost a lot of weight because she hasn't had food since Friday morning.  I'm just worried because we are tight on cash and I've only been to this vet once to pick up frontline.  I know she needs to see a vet so I'm calling first thing in the morning to get her an appointment.  I'm so worried about it being a blockage and i might not be able to sleep tonight until i get her to the vet.  She did drink a lot when she came in from going to the bathroom which makes me feel better.  I didn't have to sit there with a bowl and wait till she drank some.  I hope everything goes ok at the vet tomorrow.  She is only 11 months and i got her from my mother when she was 4 1/2 months so i haven't had her that long but she is my little girl and i love her so much, even though she is crazy and drives me nuts sometime but heck that comes with owning a dog.

Now I am waiting for my 9:45 appointment.  I'm so worried about Athena.  Last night when she drink a lot of water it made me feel better but now it is back to just a few sips at a time.  I'm so stressed out about this wish they could of got me in sooner but I've never been there before and she said that a bunch of people just walked in and she didn't want me to have to wait when i got there.  I just hope it is nothing too serious.  I should have listened to my own instincts and took her Saturday morning, but in the back of my mind i thought she has had an upset stomach and it cleared up in about 24 hours but this time it didn't.  Oh well you only do what you can right?

Good luck - paws and fingers crossed here for you!

Brittany, stop stressing yourself so much. You have an appointment,,,and she'll be fine until then.    My dog hardly drink water at all. so the fact that yours is not drinking isn't bad, afterall she drank a lot yesterday so she will be okay in that department for a while. Also, our Ollie (my sons Dane) got really skinny from not eating after he got sick,,,even after that he went on spurts of not eating.         Your girl might have gotten something in the back yard that made her sick and now she doesn't want to eat.   Are there any kids around where she was in the back when your DH left her alone?  You know, I'm a worrier so I probably am like you and wouldn't leave my dog along for any longer than a minute or two,,,, don't know what they will get into when they are young.    But relax and know that she will be taken care of by the vet now.

Yea there is a kid next to us but i don't think he would have done anything,  all the kids around her a older.  She could have just ate something weird that she shouldn't have.  I'm know I'm being hard on myself but it's so sad when every time i walk in to check on her she looks up and wags her tail and when i go sit with her she gives me a kiss.  Yea, my moms dane, Zeus, is a very picky eater but Athena was always a food hound.  Had to feed her separate because she would want the other dogs food and i know pugsly would never let her get his meal.  And i didn't want to risk finding my 16 lbs pug in my 75 lbs great dane's mouth.  I'll try to calm down some and hold out till 9 when i have to leave.  I just want her back to her old self and not just sleeping on the couch all day.  Thanks so much for your support it is truly appreciated.  Need to learn to calm down a bit when it comes to my dogs.

Awe,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,   If I had time I would dig up the picture I took of Ollie all covered up when he was sick for days,,,he always seemed cold.
Believe me,,,I know your worry, I am the same way. It is EASY for me to say to not worry, but not easy to do. You must find comfort in knowing you are taking her now though. Please let us know as soon as you get home!

I just got home from the vet.  They said she seemed find but they are going to do a blood test and x rays.  I was so shocked when they put her on the scale. I took her to petsmart a few weeks ago and she weighed 70 lbs now she weighs 62.  My poor girl.  I hated leaving her at the vet cause she was scared but i just kissed her and told her she would be ok and they will make her better.  He said they are going to send the blood work off and get results in 24 hours so i will have to wait. At least i find out what her x rays look like at 3.  Poor girl but she will get better now.

Just got home from picking up Athena.  She was all excited to see me, but as soon as we got home she was the same way just laying on the couch.  The vet said the x rays are clear of any obstruction.  So now i just have to wait for the blood test.  Oh great more waiting!  At least i don't have to worry about her having an obstruction.  I find out tomorrow by 11 am the results of the blood test.  I hope noting is really wrong with her.

Well its a good start,,,having the vet not find anything that is wrong.  So hopefully the blood test also comes back good.  For now, try not to "feel" too sorry for her. Try not to give her too much sympathy. Try to "think" of her as being fine,,and try to play with her and get her to act like she used to if you can.   I say that because when I think of it, I used to get my Sammy dog so upset when I got to worrying about her for one thing or another.  She used to lay by me and I could feel her trembling.     She just might have gotten into a little of a "spoiled brat" attitude!

Brittany I am SO close -- please let me know if I can help.  Let me know what you found out at the vets.

She ate a small can of dog food a little after we got home.  The vet gave her a B complex shot.  I was so excited i called my mom and everything.  She was barking an jumping on the bed with her cuz toy so i think she is feeling better.  I hope the blood test comes up ok.  DH might shoot me if i spend more money on her because we are pretty much broke.  I just made her some rice and hamburger and waiting for it to cool down.

Thanks so much for offering your help Callie.  I don't really know anyone down here but my in laws.  I'll keep you up to date on her and let you know if i need anything.

I just heard from the vet and he said that only part of her test results are in, but her kidneys and liver and all that are good.  We are waiting for the C.B.C test to come in and i guess the T4 which i dont know what it does.  He then went into asking me where she grew up when she was younger and i told him about the whole puppy mill crazy abusive lady.  Then he asked me about her stools if they were slimy at all.  Do you know what that would lead to because sometimes they are?
    • Gold Top Dog
I dont really know but Ive seen people here say that it means an infection, or something esle I forget... sorry not more help.

When do you get the rest of the results?
    • Gold Top Dog
Unless I'm mistaken T4 is one of the thyroid measures.
