Forum "Moderation"

Words don't have to be inappropriate to be red lined anymore; it is now all subject to interpretation and it has I feel taken away an element of enjoyment.

Absolutely. I agree with this. And the justification given doesn't seem accurate. Whenever I read a thread that has red in it, I think, "Oooh, I wonder what the pop-off was--swearing, cursing, threats? What happened?" And sometimes, given the quote key, I see that oftentimes it is none of that. Yes, we've had that icky stuff here--and I thank the moderators. We've had the true pop-offs, the cursing, the threats--but oftentimes it comes down to interpretation through a couple of people's eyes.

You are not allowed to remove a Moderator's red ink.

Oops, I did this but didn't know (can't find anything about it in the Rules....). Well, I didn't intend to specifically remove red ink, just remove myself completely, from the thread. **Content removed. Private Messaging content is private.** [8|]

Editing a post after a mod has edited it isn't in the rules, I guess I assumed that members would know that mod's edits were final, as it says in the rules that mods' and admin's decisions are final.

If I am to spell out every possible situation, we're going to have a mighty long list of rules...

That is a friendly warning, the official warning came to my inbox.  I have chosen to reply to Edies question in the form of a PM, rather than participate in the thread any further.

CC, the PM that Glenda sent you was friendly, as well. At least, I consider it to be. Do you disagree?

This is a good link that may help with some of the problems people are having with mods.

And this one discusses some interesting aspects as well...interesting .

As far as I can tell by everyone's comments, the moderation described in the link is the opposite of what everyone wants.  I for one do not like that much participation from the moderator.  These are not presidential debates.

I think the site is more for moderating on line education., not particularly this kind of site.  However, there are some good things about moderating on it.

The other is a pretty good synopsis of how things can go wrong with a moderator such as the one they depict.  The discussion includes some good ideas of what should be moderator personality and what should not.   Any thoughts?

Can i just say we should all think ourselves very lucky that this site isnt over moderated.Granted i only hang out on one board and maybe drop into these kinds of discussions by accident when the nutrition board is dead.So i dont really know how bad the moderation is on ALL the boards..

However let me tell you about 2 very large dog forums i am a member of.Sections such as this one wouldnt even be contemplated,as far as admin is concerned "we should consider ourselves lucky that we are members and the service is free"! If you even dare pm or e-mail admin about the running of THEIR board you will recieve a curt and not very nice reply and disuaded(sp?) from ever contacting/bothering them again.
As soon as a debate looks like it's about to start, the thread will be locked or taken off the boards altogether, unless it's of interest to the mods or admin and then it may stay [8|]
There is NO talk allowed of of puppies born, and if someone owns a pregnant dog they are not allowed to reveal the breed, incase they are trying to advertise. We are not allowed pictures, sig lines can only be one line long and NO clickable links of any kind. You may only cut and paste ONE paragraph of an article of any sort, any more than that and the mods will snip it down.Threads are usually locked after page 3 or 4 as "everything has already been said".Gosh, there's loads more but you get the general gist.

Sooooo my point is feel lucky that we are able to be part of such a great forum where we arent moderated up the wazoo like so many other forums are.Honestly this place is nothing compared to some of them!

i-dog is the most easy going dog forums i am part of.

Is that a good or bad thing? [sm=asking03.gif]

I am going to rewite this complaint so that it is less angry, and because I respect that the moderator in question is trying her best.

That said, I feel that there is excessive moderation going on, and I am quite irritated after having been asked to edit a post of mine that was not inflammatory or against the rules.

If I am looking at the post you mean...you were asked to edit THAT? wow...unreal.

If it is in reference to a post that someone emailed me, thinking it was directed at me, and in consideration of the fact that the post emailed to me no longer exists, I admit to being a bit baffled myself.
    • Gold Top Dog
Ok, this is getting way too cloak and daggers and I don't roll that way.  I edited out "Ignore the barbed comments.  Better not to engage."  That's it.  No attacks, insults, or drama.  I certainly hope people aren't emailing each other over THAT.
    • Gold Top Dog
Yeah, that's the one.  Hard to believe you were asked to edit that.
