    terrible dog attack

I don't want to stir up anything, but I can't get this victim out of my mind.

That's terrible.  We had our own high-profile attack here in VA where a woman and her dog were killed by roaming dogs that had been a problem for some time.  Our dangerous dog statues resulted from public outcries that give AC more power to do something.  It's not popular with alot of dog owners, but I'm proud that my state has gone after the behavior and not the breeds.  It doesn't matter your dog's breed, if it bites, there's consequences.

i wont be able to click on that thing because i dont what i'll find. the last thing i need to read about now is a child being hurt or killed by a dog, so ..... i'll just take your word for it that it was "just" terrible.

I could not bring it up, was this the Old Man in the front yard with the Pitts??   That was beyond horrific, especially when speaking with the neighbor who said he was screaming for help but she couldn't "do any thing" .... Other neighbors kept saying these dogs had chased many people, but the family's only statement was "the one dog had welts on his face so the man "must have hit the dog or something, cause they were never mean at home..."  I have been wondering all day about that old guy hope he makes it !!

That's terrible. I hope that the dog's owners are punished to the fullest extent of the law.  It is ridiculous that this is not the first time that these dogs have been running free in the neighborhood.  It's owner like that who give the, quote/unquote, "dangerous breeds" a bad name.  How very sad, & totally preventable.

Poor gentleman, I truly hope that he recovers from this attack.

Why weren't these dogs on leashes?  Why weren't these dogs picked up by animal control?  Why isn't the owner being held accountable?

    So much negligence.

Judging by the words of the young who owns the dogs, he is a gangsta wannabe, a thug in training. He stated his dogs don't bite unless they are attacked, such as being hit. Really? Did he find this out by hitting them or is he making stuff up? And how could a 90 year old man do anything to hurt two dogs who's combined weight is near his own? Karma will come around. It's called Riker's Island. And don't worry, he'll wind up there.

How do I know that? When you hear hoofbeats, expect horses. He talks in a way that is supposed to be "tough". Like a gangsta. He owns dogs described as pitbulls, favored in the macho image of gangstas. He denies responsibility. And he will continue making his mistakes until he lands in prison. And you know some of those rumors you hear about prison? Believe it.

The old man is in critical condition after having one of his legs amputated.

The owner is facing second-degree assault charges.  He is a 28-year-old, registered sex offender released from prison in 2004 after serving time on a third degree rape charge.

    The dogs were euthanized.

dogs are as much the victims here as the man

The very sad truth is that many people are drawn to dogs like this because of the tough status they think they get from having them. I was walking along the river this week with the DH and passed a gang of young thugs with two adorable blue PIT pups on leashes. The little guys could not have been more than 12 weeks old and they were already sporting chain collars that would better suit a dog Hektor's size than a little puppy. I could not help but wonder what will become of these two. They are probably starting their lives much as the two dogs in this news story did.

    Thugs should not own dogs.

What is wrong with people? the article said...

"We've been calling all summer about these dogs," said another local.

and then the owner went on to say that her dogs wouldnt have attacked fo rno reason....why the he** were the dogs able to roam the streets multiple times.

The better question is why as tax payers are we spending money on BSL instead of enforcing and prosecuting irresponsible owners so this dosnt happen. Now responsible Pit Bull owners in that town, county and state are going to have to be subjected to ridicule from the public.

That is horrid, absolutely horrid. The dogs should be put down and that women should go to jail and not be allowed to own another pet.

Is it finally time to recognize that this breed may not be the harmless lovable breed some like to portray it as?  Is it time to acknowledge that this breed attracts too many owners that want a "vicious" dog?  Will we now admit that too many of this breed are being bred for their aggressive traits (including human aggression)?   Have we gotten to the point where "responsible Pit Bull owners" are becoming the exception rather then the rule?

There were actually 3 pit bull attacks just this week in New York City.  One was an attack on firefighters and the other a 3 year old boy.

This breed as most all breeds are what the owners make them to be.  As an owner of a PB mix, and previous owners of APB's I can say that I had raised mine to be loving family dogs.

After reading the 2 articles it is apparent the dogs were a result of their environment.  He said they had been kept on chains and "slipped out".  You should not keep any dog on a chain, but especially not an "aggressive breed".  All dogs need love and attention.  From my experience if you are keeping your dogs on chains most of the time then they are not getting the attention they need and deserve.

I was pleased to see from the poll linked to the 2nd article that creating a BSL was not being approved.  Normally after something like this hits the news everyone jumps the bandwagon and wants them all gone.  It is not the dogs fault, it is the owners.  A number of times when it is said to be PB it isn't even a PB.  Everyone naturally thinks of dog attacks as always being PB.  I get really frustrated with this stuff.  I love my dog, and would do anything for her.  Even her vet won't list her as a PB so no one can ever take her if this kind of BS law ever goes into effect here.

You want to place blame on a breed for appealing to irresponsible owners? LOL do you have any clue how laughable and ridiuclous that sounds?

Can you say with your heart that this breed should be bansihed because of a man made problem and due to the fact that the public and government lacks the initiative to act responsibly by placing spay/neuter laws or some other responsible act. Should the THOUSANDS of responsible APBT owners have to relinquish their dogs because of a group of idiots? Thats like saying responsible gun owners should have to give up their arms because people are killed with guns.

So we made these dogs to be what they are, they turned on us so lets banish them? What a horrid view, LOL!

Keep in mind 50 years ago the APBT was in the top 10 family dogs in the US, was the mascot for Sony, was Hellen Kellers breed of choice and was the dog on Lil Rascals......would a vicious dog be chosen for such? Its a matter of human irrepsonsibilty in TODAY's society and any dog lover should realize that.

I've been raised around the true stable APBT since I was born and my family has had them for decades longer, none of my family has suffered a vicious attack so keep in mind that your speaking about some people's FAMILY members.**content removed, rude**
