    Now THIS is Scary

It's finally begun leaking into the show breeders ... The ARs just don't care if you have 5 show dogs or 50 commercially raised dogs - Breeders are their enemies ...

Yes it it's scary, I agree.

Granted I don't necessary like the comparison to 9/11... I understand the author was trying to make an impact on the reader, I still felt it a bit classless, 9/11 thousands of people were killed.  This is mandatory spay/neuter law.  Not the same ball park at all.

I think if they imposed this law for specific breeds I could feel better supporting it. For example if they did this for Pit Bulls (not staffies), toy breeds and designer breeds I'd have less to complain about. They cant just lump everyone together for example your Leonberger's dont have a over bred problem, nor do Pharoah Hounds and others.

i agree AL .... i've thought this too. lets look and see WHAT/WHO is in the shelter and why....

i dont support a permanent ban but i do believe a temporary one would be a good idea.... ten years and the ban could/should be lifted.

i'm there will be cons against it, but i havent the time to think of them right now. it would limit the breeding age of most of the dogs that fall under the ban, that is true....

I can't support breed discrimination of any sort. That's a slippery slope and you don't want legislators going there.

There is a lot of sensationalism in this article and I have a strong suspicion that we aren't getting the whole story; therefore I will refrain from forming an opinion.

I hear ya Gizmo. I'm not so diluted that I think it would actually work but in a ideal world it might, LOL.

I'm just saying I rather have mandatory spay/neuter instead of BSL. I rather weed out the BYB's instead of making all pittie owners get rid of there dog.

I rather designer breeding stop immediately as well as the overbreeding of poor toy breeds who have so many health issues.

I also think most responsible breeders wouldnt mind if they were breeding responsibly in the first place.

Just a quick question....the one litter a year thing.....does that mean per bitch or per kennel?

There has been a "grassroots" effort by the HSUS in Colorado over the last month.  There was a meeting in my area and several others planned through out the state over the following weeks.  I found out about it, emailed several people, some of which are breeders, and I was the only one to attend the meeting.  I actually have more ideas on how to fight laws than to fight apathy.  Angry  Ideas?

That is the only reputable link and it contradicts some of the sensationalist information in the other stories. Mainly, it says the dogs were seized on the 19th - which is the day they were supposed to come, not the 15th like the other story says. ETA: It sounds like his fines were greatly exaggerated, but even if they weren't, when you have that many other charges pending it's hard to get officials to work with you.

I don't agree with what they are trying to do, but I'm not sure this case is the best one to base an argument on.

Thanks for posting the other version.  The 1st version was a real turn off but I am glad I kept reading the other posts.

I agree with you and frankly I do not see a connection with the HSUS.  This guy is just being harrassed by "city officials" and for what reason I don't know.

A ten year breeding.ownership ban would wipe the breed's population out, at least in this country.

I'm afraid that is the biggest issue - American citizens no longer seem to value their rights  or freedom :(

it didnt wipe anything out in the UK...... pit bulls "types" have been banned for over thirteen years and these dogs are STILL thriving... in spite of the recent DDA (dangerous dogs amnesty) people are going to get around no matter what. if they value their dogs breeding stock then they'll likely smuggle it out of the area or hide it. i didnt say it would be fool proof. when you try to fool proof something someone always builds a better fool.....

people are going to get around no matter what.

I do not want MY breeds future handled by those that "get around" laws. I would rather fight to remain a responsible breeder in the daylight than operate in the dark, in fear of prosecution.
