I guess that my point was, Chuffy, that even in low profile cases, the jury is often made up of a large percentage of folks of the same color and class as the defendent.
Let's pretend for a second that Michael Vic was white. I get put on his grand jury. No way I'm going to want less than the max for this turd, regardless of his color. To ME color doesn't matter, black, white, brown, purple with orange polka dots.....a turd is a turd. Yes, to some people it DOES matter. And where one is raised.....deep south, inner city, suburbia...... often the color of their skin, but not always, their economic history......all of these things factor into how folks think and what they think is and isn't ok. We can't assume that every person in the world has the same morals, values, and upbringing and is all the same regardless of the "packaging".
Did those grand jurors "get" where Vic had come from? Perhaps. But perhaps not. That would assume that all people of color have the same background, economic history and social exposures. Good grief, different REGIONS of this country can be like a whole different world no matter what color one is. Anyone who hasn't lived in the South, doesn't get it. And anyone who isn't BLACK and has lived in the south REALLY doesn't get it. It's a whole different world for the blacks in the deep south, one that makes me ashamed of my country.
In my uneducated and humble opinion, the color composition of the grand jury likely had very little to do with the indictments.
And now, I'm going to take Gina's sage advice and step back from this thread.
