Sick of Vic!!!

    Sick of Vic!!!

Okay, finally the idiot is indicted and hmmmmmmmm, let's see...........four of the six jurers were black, I dunno, call me crazy, but I see a direct correlation between that fact and the fact that they are only going after him on two counts, rather than the 8 that they could go for!!!!! Yes, I just read that the State is going to try for more, and I pray that the State is successful, but his attorneys are arguing that he cannot be tried twice for the same counts. That's ridiculous, since there are clearly more than 2 counts of abuse here!!!!!! Once again a race issue. I'm so sick of it. It's just plain ignorance.... I said it before, and I'll say it again - give Vic the same punishment he gave those poor souls - let's see how he likes it!!! P.S. I am not a mean person - just passionate about what I believe in and I believe Michael Vic will burn in hell for what he's done, regardless of what his punishment on earth is. Shame on him!!!!!!!!!!

You're sick of Vic? I'm sick of racism. What does 6 jurors being black have to do with it? And how does your racism - your assumption that a jury of his peers could not convict him because they are of the same race - different from the racism you decry in your next sentence?

I won't call you crazy (my first instinct is to call you something that begins with a R and ends with a T).  Where is your evidence that the Black jurors pushed for Vic to have less charges than he could have had?  Who knows what evidence they were presented with.  Maybe you should think about the type of ignorance that leads to assumptions like yours before complaining about other people's ignorance.

How do you suppose a person of color might feel if their loved one is run down by a car driven by a white person?  And that defendent gets a jury of his or her peers that consists of at least half WHITE peers?  That's been going on in this country for years and years.

Sorry, but I agree with Paula on this one.

Paula - With all due respect, go back and really read my post. It was 4 black jurors out of 6, the other 2 were white. Then go back and read all the previous posts that were made when this story first came out.....you will see that the black community tried to make it a race issue and the majority of the people who posted here supported what I said in my current post. If you've seen any of the black celebrities being interviewed about this case, including Whoopie Goldberg, you know that they overwhelmingly defended him - "Oh, you know, he was raised in the south and they grow up doing this and think it's okay!" Um, so it must be okay????!!! Educate yourself darling........I am not racist, but clearly, this case is and unfortunately, I have to say that it appears to me that certain decisions were made in this case based on who he was being judged by. Bad on the white man for holding the black man down......... peace The great thing about this forum is that we are all entitled to our opinion and I respect yours, but seriously, educate yourself........

Glenmar - This jury was not 50/5o and if you read the articles on this subject you will see that I am not alone in the way that I feel. I am NOT racist, unfortunately we have seen this sort of thing play out over and over again in our courts. Maybe not the same issue, but certainly decisions that appeared to be made based on the race of the jurors involved. It's unfortunate. I won't apologize for my opinion and you need not apologize for seeing things differently. That's what makes this a great country.............

     Sunshine girl,

You need to stop talking because you are digging a hole. Just because there were 4 jurors out of 6 that were black, just because Vick is black, just because black celebrities rallied to his cause doesn't mean a darned thing about what black people are like. Otherwise where I live up in the boonies it would be safe to assume that all white people are trailer living, booze swilling, wife beaters. Of course that would be a RACIST thing to assume.

I cannot speak for all black people, but the only thing the color of my skin might inform is the colors I choose to wear. So I'd thank you to back your racist butt off. And don't call me darling, you can call me Paula.

Look, we are all influenced by society and find ourselves having knee-jerk reactions that might be racist or sexist, or ageist or homophobic because that's the swill we live in. The first step to fixing it is acknowledging it.

    Sunshine...

I'm a mod here so I won't delve into the deeper issues, and I won't say much else...but I will say that your assumptions...sadden me.

    • Gold Top Dog

I'm sorry Sunshinegirl, but I have to agree with everyone else here. I dont have the energy right now to delve more into this but, like Gina said, your comments are disheartening Sad

I see where the OP is coming from.  In many high profile cases, you see people of the same "kind" (for want of a better word) as the defendant usually "side" with them....not always, but its a pattern I see.  Remember Louise Woodward?  The majority of Americans felt she was guilty, evil... yet here in the uk the majority believed she was innocent....  OJ Simpson, same thing again....  It might be a race issue, but it doesn't make the op a racist.  Just observant of a sad fact of life, and, apparently, human nature.

I think both sides have made it a race issue......but here is something that I heard on the radio about him being indicted in Virginia....statement was made that the jury would be mostly white, considering the area it is.....this stuff gets thrown around by blacks and whites....that really tells me how far we have come in this country.....obviously not very far.......which is sad.

    • Gold Top Dog

I guess that my point was, Chuffy, that even in low profile cases, the jury is often made up of a large percentage of folks of the same color and class as the defendent.

Let's pretend for a second that Michael Vic was white.  I get put on his grand jury.  No way I'm going to want less than the max for this turd, regardless of his color.  To ME color doesn't matter, black, white, brown, purple with orange polka dots.....a turd is a turd.  Yes, to some people it DOES matter.  And where one is raised.....deep south, inner city, suburbia...... often the color of their skin, but not always, their economic history......all of these things factor into how folks think and what they think is and isn't ok.  We can't assume that every person in the world has the same morals, values, and upbringing and is all the same regardless of the "packaging".

Did those grand jurors "get" where Vic had come from?  Perhaps.  But perhaps not. That would assume that all people of color have the same background, economic history and social exposures.  Good grief, different REGIONS of this country can be like a whole different world no matter what color one is.  Anyone who hasn't lived in the South, doesn't get it.  And anyone who isn't BLACK and has lived in the south REALLY doesn't get it.  It's a whole different world for the blacks in the deep south, one that makes me ashamed of my country.

In my uneducated and humble opinion, the color composition of the grand jury likely had very little to do with the indictments.

And now, I'm going to take Gina's sage advice and step back from this thread.

Quote from Sunshine Girl's race "opinion"

". Bad on the white man for holding the black man down........."

    Oh, I'd say that's racist.

Agreed.  Race definitely played a part in how this case panned out in the public eye.  I don't see how that can be denied.  I wouldn't be attacking the OP here--it might be much more useful to speak out loudly against those prominent members of the black community who pretty much said "He didn't know any better, it's part of the culture."

This area is for advocacy. This forum has no place for this type of conversation regarding race, correct it now or we will be speaking privately.

Now for the issue of the dogs and the charges. Google this... Bob Stevens+Pit Bull+dog fighting. This is a case I know very well...for selling videos and associated items, Bob Stevens got 5 years, not admitting to dog fighting mind you...

Vick is looking at a possible 18 months for admitting to dog fighting, a felony in 48 states???? This is an issue, nothing to do with anyone's color/upbringing or ethnic relation. This has to do with dog fighting and punishment. Bad people come in all colors as well as the jurys who hear the cases. Don't play this case for the people involved in it, you should be concerned for the judicial system and how inconsistant it can be!
