Mindless Chatter-The weekend edition

Glenda, what time is dinner served?

I think that a nap is in my immediate future.  I woke up at 5 this morning & couldn't go back to sleep.  Instead, I took the dogs for an early morning run.  We had a nice run, but I've decided that I need to take Angel into the vet for a check up.  When she first came to us, I knew that she wasn't used to extended exercise like our other dogs were, but she just hasn't made the type of progress, stamina wise, that I think that she should.  It seems like she gets tired much quicker than everyone else, & I end up having to carry her home, because I feel bad for forcing her to continue.  It's strange because she can easily keep up with everyone when they are playing & wrestling, but even short runs with me seem to zap the energy out of her.  I guess that we'll start with some bloodwork, & x-rays.

After our run, Bev was still bouncy, so I decided to let him do a little tracking.  I went out & laid a track for him.  Then we went out do let him "work" a little.  Bru wanted to come along, so I let him walk with me.  Bev was doing great, & then, all of a sudden all hell broke loose.  A deer went shooting across his path.  His nose quickly left the ground, & before I realized what was happening, his line was ripping through my hands.  I'm not sure what happened but I couldn't yell to stop him.  I remember opening my mouth, but it was like I couldn't get words out.  Because of my brain fart, and a slip on the deer's part, Bevo caught & killed it.  He was so proud of himself.

Nope not my DH, he just turned 43 Stick out tongue

And please ladies, do not make him older, because I am older than him!

    Sorry! Geeked

I'm not sure what Willa would want. She loves playing with her baby dolls, but she also loves skateboarding and playing in the dirt, etc. We're hoping for a boy, but it'd be cool for her to have a sister, too. My sister and I are really close.

    Dinner, tonight? Stick out tongue

I have a pot roast in the crock pot...... mmmm... smells so good!  gonna do salad with it, and dumplings, and fresh apple cider.

DH found a treadmill on CL for $50.  The digital display doesn't work, but Mr. Electronics will surely figure something out with that!  We had a hard time finding one that was "sturdy" -- some of them have low weight limits and felt flimsy when he tried them, so glad we got one both cheap and old enough to be better-made.

It's windy and cool today but sunny. We went to the gym and then grocery shopping and now DH has gone to the bike trail to ride. Hopefully it won't be too crowded there today. I feel like I should probably make the summer to winter clothes switch but the idea of packing all my summer stuff up is depressing. I also can't pack everything since I'll need stuff for the trip to Maui. I wish I had more room and didn't need to shift stuff around.

Watching the Buccaneers (my team) play the Eagles, Vick just took the field again...... normally I enjoy watching the Bucs play, but today - I'm torn... and we're losing, so......

It's soooo hot outside and I'm soooo ready for it to be cool outside. We love the fall weather and I'm in such a fall mood, but then you step outside and it's like a sauna, ugh! I really miss seeing the leaves change colors... Almost the time of year to make my homemade beef jerky, can't wait!!

Amanda...dinner time depends on the Red Sox.  Sadly the Angels are slowly chipping away at their lead and the danged chili dog are causing us both indigestion.

What!?  A Deer!?  Bevo caught a killed a Deer?!  Like...a real Deer?  Sheesh!  Onyx caught a finch once...I was proud of that.  Now I'm ashamed!  A deer!?  Honestly!

What did you do with it?  Is it cleaned and strung up yet?  Crusher would be living outside again, like last year when he got his deer carcass.   (by choice, I did not make him)

    Way to Go Bevo!

I'm so glad yesterday is over lol.  Though i have stuff to clean in the sink, I just don't feel like it now.

I have realized, however, that I can't prepare a turkey.  I mean, I *could* if I didn't feel like passing out while watching Derek do it lol.  I got the turkey out of the wrapper thing it was in, and after Derek chased me around the kitchen table for a while with the bag of giblets, I first nearly felt like I was going to be sick to my stomach while he was cleaning it out lol and then when the sewing started, I really thought I could do it, I got the needle through once, but it reminded me so much of human skin that i nearly passed out and had to sit outside in the cool air lol.  Luckily Derek saved the day and stuffed the turkey and sewed it up lol.  Derek made his stuffing (which is outside the turkey) and I loooove it sooo much!  He really helped a lot lol.  I did the other veggies, and he helped me with that.

All in all, the turkey was cooked properly (thank goodness for my tucket thermometer thing that beeped when it reach temp) and there was enough food to send home to my brother and his fiancee, my parents and Derek's parents AND Derek and I have a bunch left over too!

But I just don't think that turkey is my 'thing' lol if we ever do this again, Derek says we will, I know what Derek will be in control of doing lol while I, er, sit outside with my head between my knees lol

Aw Lauren!  You know, you don't have to stuff the turkey if you don't want to.  That eliminates the sewing.   I hardly ever stuff mine.  Just wash it out and tuck the legs back in.  And even when I do stuff it, I don't sew it up.  Just tuck the legs in again.  I drape a few slices of bacon across the breasts and that's about it.  I do wish I had one of those thermometers though.  Mine is always overcooked, and impossible to take out of the pan in one piece.

Ummmm.  You SEWED the holes closed?  I've never done that.  My mom used to wrap the stuffing in cheesecloth and then shove it in.  I personally just flat don't stuff my birds....the stuffing is just as good and likely moister, for having cooked a shorter time outside the bird.  JMHO

lmichelle, you Canadians do some WEIRD thanksgiving stuff. I have never stuffed a turkey, much less sewed it closed!

I have chocolate cake in the fridge, and I want to eat it. Bad.

Crap.  Baseball season is over.  Crap.

    • Gold Top Dog

I stuff the turkey, but just use an end piece from a loaf of bread to close up the hole (just stick it inside after you put all your stuffing in there).  Very easy, no sewing, and the piece of bread becomes part of the stuffing!

    • Gold Top Dog

IMHO, the stuffing is so much better cooked inside the turkey.  It is moist and flavorful from absorbing turkey juices.  I've always just used metal skewers to lace the opening up a bit.

Eat it, I'll help you!  I could use a pick-me-up.

Nikki woke me up with bad diarrhea this morning...the new treats I bought don't agree with her, and I feel bad. Sad  I'm trying to keep her as calm and relaxed as I can so she can recuperate, but these AKK, they just don't like being still!

I steam-cleaned the carpets this morning though, and they look beautiful!  I love my carpet cleaner, and am so glad I bought one!

And there have been two blue jays in my yard today!  Ever since I put a bird bath out, all of a sudden I have wildlife!!!
