Hump day chat!

    Hump day chat!

I made it through the Amex bill, the Home Depot bill, and the Discover bill yesterday - boy did I feel productive when I left!  All of them balanced - woohoo!

The other night Agnes and I were tottering along for our walk, a couple was on the other side of the street.  The guy says, "I'm thinking you don't need the leash!"  Me: "probably not, but I don't want her to dart out into the street".  It doesn't look like she can move fast, but every once in a while she gets a burst of energy - kind of like in the Super Mario Bros. game when Mario gets a power pill.

The big 4 bosses are in the office today.  So far 2 of them are sick with whatever has gone around and 3 of my immediate co-workers have had it, so there are only 2 of us who haven't (one is me).  I'm doing my best to avoid everyone - good thing I have a corner office away from the worst of it.  It's in the air, though, carried around by the ventilation.  Ugh.  Where's my hazmat suit?

Congrats Ron!  I'm glad you're liking your new job so far!  That's so awesome! Yes

I was sooooo out of commission yesterday due to a deep scaling by the periodontist on Monday afternoon.  Thank God for tylenol with codeine and Jamison snuggles. That is all.

I had to drop my car off at the mechanics first thing this morning.  The oil pressure light came on a few times and then it was fine.  I'm paranoid about my car breaking down and I hope I don't regret not getting some cash for my clunker. lol

We had almost an inch of rain yesterday.  Everything is looking so nice and green.  It was 69 degrees here this morning!  The dogs were racing around like maniacs outside. lol

I just got word that all of our cabinets have been installed in the new house.  They are working on countertops today, & will be starting interior painting, & carpet/tile/hardwood installation this week!  I am told that the house should be done by next Tuesday, at the latest.  I am seriously considering starting the packing process so that, maybe, it will be completely organized for the movers.

OMG, that is so exciting!!  Get packing, girl! Wink

    How exciting, Amanda!

My son finally got off his behind and contacted TriCare (champus) about why his visit to the ER in May wasn't covered.  Apparently the hospital tried to run the claim through using his SSN, but it really is under his dad's.  So the $1100 hospital bill, the $600 ambulance bill, and the $300 doctor bill will be paid, for the most part and DS only has to worry about his co-pay.  He'd been getting collections notices and I've been telling him to call since June; he finally decided to listen to his stupid old mother and lo-and-behold, I was right.  If he lived closer I'd have smacked him just because...

ETA:  Deb, that dental procedure sounds very painful.  I'm glad you had drugs to get you through!

Deb, been there done that on the deep cleaning.  Ouch!

Amanda, that's so exciting that you might be so close to moving to your new house!!

My car will be ok.  I'm too embarassed to admit that it was just low on oil.  Embarrassed  I am a nut about doing the maintenance on my vehicles but I have to admit that I never check the oil.  It doesn't leak oil or burn oil.  All I can conclude is that the last time the oil was changed they didn't fill it completely.  Idiot lights are good things and aptly named.

Does anyone want a GSD puppy for the day? lol She's all wound up and very frustrated with Twister.  He won't play with her and she is reduced to slapping herself in the face with her toy. lol  We did some obedience training and then I put her in her crate so I could make some phone calls.  She didn't want to be in her crate and protested so loudly even Twister had his paws in his ears.  She settled down after a bit and the silence is wonderful.  BTW, DH does not like her assigned name so she's back to being called "puppy".  She doesn't seem to care......lol  Feel free to offer up more names.  He wanted to call her Marble. Huh?  He said her eyes look like marble.  This is why he never gets to name dogs.

Yay Amanda!  That is great to hear.  I'd tell you to get packing, but I know how much I hate packing everything up.  So if you don't feel like it, I'll support your procrastination....or maybe you could supervise they boys doing it?

I'm a little stressed today, we're having a myriad of home repair issues. About a week ago I got a huge water bill, twice what it normally is, and I called the water company who explained to me how to check for leaks. From everything they told me, it seemed to be the toilets running continuously. I priced the repairs on the flaps or whatever, and decided to just buy new toilets, so that's what I did.

Fast forward a few days, and the water from my shower head won't shut off. First it's dripping, and within two days it's pouring out continuously, so I call a plumber. I called a big name plumbing company, which turned out to be a mistake. The guy fixed the leaky shower, 30 minutes and a small part, and the bill was nearly $400...ok, I thought that was bad...but here's the kicker. There is an underlying problem that he neither fixed nor even found. I discovered the problem by talking to neighbors who had similar issues, and got the guy back out here...I refused to pay anything more, but I wanted him to tell me if the problem was what I thought it was...and it was...and he tried to get DH to give him $20. The estimate to fix the real problem was $450. I called around and have a guy coming out to do it for $225.

The good news is, my toilets aren't installed yet and it looks like I don't need them, so I'll be taking all that back. I'm also having DH call big name plumbing company and complain, and I'm going to try to get a credit on my water bill. Bleh.

Ron, I'm so thrilled that your job is such a perfect fit for you.  Isn't it great when you see that light bulb go on?

Tina, may I recommend a mask, rubber gloves & an early day to avoid the bug that's going through your office?

Amanda, how exciting!  I HATE packing so, I'd be tempted to let the packers do it.  Then again, after having someone else pack & ruin some of DH's hats & see the randomness of how & what they packed, I'd suggest you pack yourself.

I finally went for my annual bloodtest this am.  To celebrate that it's over I treated myself to a peanutbutter/chocolate chip cake.  Now I feel sick.  It was soooooo worth it.

Oooooooh that sort of thing makes me SO mad!

I had a very similar thing happen to me with my house in CA - a mysterious water-caused hole appeared in the drywall in the ceiling in my downstairs bathroom. Big-name plumbing company (sent out by my homeowner's insurance company, no less) says it's a toilet, will cost $400, so I have him fix it and he changes out the sealing ring for the upstairs toilet. Problem solved, right? WRONG! Not only did he simply replace the sealing ring OVER completely rotten things around it, but he didn't even look at the pipes - turns out the pipes UNDERNEATH the toilet were the real problem. Cost well over $500 to get the real problem fixed, since it required un-doing and re-doing the work he did, plus replacing all those pipes. Soooooooo mad.

Sorry you were taken for a ride by that jerk plumber Sad I hope you get it resolved quickly, and you get your money back.

Amanda, that's exciting about your new place!

Tina, Agnes sounds so happy, and I'm so happy for her :) And great news about your son! How many times are you going to say "I told you so"? Started practicing yet?

Thanks again to everyone who wished me well for the GREs. I was convinced I totally bombed the math part - I was literally in tears afterwards - and I almost canceled my score. (You have to decide whether or not to keep the score before you can see what you got.) I decided to go for it anyway, and - I did awesome!!!! So surprised! My score at least puts me in shooting range of the top schools, so I'm quite relieved. BF aced the GREs and is definitely applying to top schools, so my score means there's a much better chance we might end up near/with each other. Phew! Plus it'd be nice if I could get into a top program, just for my own successes! So fingers crossed, now all that's left is the app process :)

I am going to a hockey game tonight! Just the local team, but they are an OHL team...I think? heheh. I have never seen them play and haven't been to a hockey game since I was 16! FH's company has season's tickets and the boss gave them to him for tonight :) Hockey is the only sport I can tolerate watching. The others are all so boring :P

So last week I had to bring my plants inside because it was frosting at night and this week or rather the past two days it has been so muggy it's felt like 30 C outside. This has been the STRANGEST summer weather ever.

I'm also excited today because I got a bunch of fall bulbs at Walmart - tons of various shades of pink tulips and a ton of those tiny iris bulbs. We just ripped out a few of the gardens to redo because they were basically all weeds so I have plenty of space to replant them!
