You know Jackie, I'll bet that Candace could fit her into your siggie right below Belle. Devil

On a more serious note, I hope that you locate her owners.  If you don't, let me know if you want to place her.  I know someone who was, as of last week, looking for a shepherd/shepherd mix puppy.  I don't know if they have adopted one yet, but I do know that they would be a great home.  (She's the lady who keeps Bevo when I have to go out of town.)

    You're so helpful, Amanda! Devil

I will let you know if I don't locate her owner in a few weeks.  I know you understand the importance of making sure I make every effort to find her owners.  I'm impatient as heck to get her scanned.

I did and none found. The lip search was fun. Wink I used to tatto my dogs before the microchip came along.  Lies posts about GSD's and tatto's helped remind me that it's still common practice in some breeds.  Thanks for any and all reminders and links and such.  It never hurts to make sure I'm not forgetting something.

If you find one lemme know b/c the reputable breeders use the same or very similar scheme (kennel initials, year, litter letter, puppy number.  Usually either a 5- or 7-digit tat.  For ex. Nikon is AT08B1 = Alta-Tollhaus kennel, year 2008, "B" litter, puppy #1).  Pups are done in the ear though so if it's not there I doubt there would be one other than possibly a mark indicating a spay if she was spayed already.

No microchip. :(   I'll start the search for her owner. Sigh.  Keep that ID on your dogs and get them microchipped.  She has an appointment tomorrow for heartworm check and vaccines.

Bummer!!  I hope you're able to find her owner another way, and if not, I KNOW you'll help her find a wonderful forever home.

Thanks Jackie for keeping her warm safe and fed while you find her owners - I really find it amazing that people don't have their dogs chipped.

Boy do I agree with you!  There are many, low cost opportunities for people to have their dog's chipped.  We've driven around looking for signs, no luck. We'll try that again tomorrow.  I know if it were my dog lost, I would have papered the area with signs. Who knows how she came to be where we found her.  I put an ad on craigslist and have contacted a local pet lost and found group.  I'm going to see about posting her on the GSD forum.

Around here it is sooooooooooo easy to get your dog chipped and for next to nothing - I was horrified that a friend's vet told her the dog had to be 'put out' to do it and they were charging a ton.  I gave her the info for a 'dog day' event where they were doing it for $5.  She was amazed.

And yes if Bugsy went missing I would be calling around, have posters up, and looking everywhere, etc.  i hope that she gets a new home as it would appear on the face of it that her previous owners aren't too bothered.  She couldn't have been out there long or come far on her own from her condition.

I just don't understand people - sure there were days when B was 5 mos old I thought I would hang myself but not dump him LOL

I keep thinking about a gsp that is in rescue that is 11 years old and her owners gave her up because they have 1 yr old twins and a new baby.  My heart is so broken for that dog - the thoughts I have for the previous owners aren't type-able

Oh, wow, she's so beautiful.  I do hope you find her mom and dad.  She's too cute.  It's great that she can stay with you guys for now Winkthough!

Did you call around to all the local vets, shelters and even groomers?  Maybe they might have had a new gsd pup client recently and might have a lead for you to follow.

I think she is beautiful! I'd volunteer to take her if I had a 'slot' for her here :)

Yes, I've called all of the above that are within a ten mile radius of where we found her.  We went looking for signs again after our walk this morning.  We went by a woman's house who has a GSD in the neighborhood and left a note on her door.  She is the type of owner who would have placed a lost notice and put up signs but she might know of someone else in the area who has a GSD puppy.

Well, Jackie-lady, you just give me the word, and I'll squeeze her in there...hehe.

Good luck with the search, but in any event, I know she'll end up in the best possible place...er... or stay there, whichever the case may be.

You know, I definitely used to feel the same way...but my vet has a theory that Cherokee's microchip might have something to do with her tumor..since the microchip appears to be IN the tumor (she was chipped many years ago..and the tumor's brand new). I'm not positive I'll be so quick to microchip future animals, honestly.
