    Mindless Chatter Freeday-Friday!

Went hiking briefly this morning - so pretty!

Currently have my bum parked in Starbucks with the intention of being productive. I'm a sucker for Starbucks. A while chocolate mocha, soothing music, and some deliciously fattening pastries... really can't go wrong!

Also, I get to pick up Rascal from boarding tomorrow morning. I really hope I'll get a report of good behavior.

Hope everyone else is having a nice morning :)

My morning has started off not too bad.  Derek is at home today, he has vacation all next week and I don't.  But I think it was really sweet of him that he got up with me (around 6) to make my lunch and my tea :)

Tomorrow I am going to see my mom and dad, go to garage sales there and go to a bridal shop with my mother, father and a friend.  Should be innnnnteresting!

Amanda, I sent you the email :)

Today, I am kind of annoyed with America for being so very afraid of change.

But, my new faucet looks great...my Mom's birthday is today and we might go play Bingo all together LOL. How funny is that?

    Good Morning all!

Needed to meet the gal from our corporate office halfway between ours and hers this morning to get a new fax machine.  Ours either came over on the Mayflower or was built by Alexander Graham Bell himself.  Feeding ONE page at a time gets very old......

While waiting for her, I picked up one of the localish weekly papers.  Sigh.  They had published an "open letter to Obama" written by the VP of Proctor and Gamble.  Let me say, I'm not a terribly political person, but living in the ultra conservative Florida panhandle, I do a LOT of tongue biting.  This guy though.....sure, he's entitled to his own opinion, but, if he's going to put it forth under the P&G banner, well, I'm done buying ANY of their products.

Of course a letter to the editor in our little weekly started with "if you want the government to pay for your health care and you aren't old enough, move to another country....."

Forgive my soapbox here, but, healthcare USED to be reasonable and available.  BUT, we, the American people decided that if something happens someone has to be to blame, and by golly, it sure can't be us.  Stuff can't just happen that is nobody's fault.  Nope.  Stuff happens and we rush to the attorneys.  So......malpractice insurance costs increase and in turn, health care costs increase.  Too bad that "we the people" can't shoulder some of the responsibility for the outrageous cost of medical care.

OK.  I'll quit before I tick everyone off.........

Hope you all have something fun planned for the weekend!

Gina, I feel the same way. I can't express how blindingly angry I was when all the "town hall screamers" were being broadcast on major news networks. Disagree with politics, okay, but is nonsensical screaming really necessary? Why all the fear?

Also, this just in, BREAKING NEWS: Starbucks' new Pumpkin Spice Latte is incredibly delicious. (If you like sweet coffee drinks, and pumpkin spice ____.)

I'm working on writing my "research statement" for graduate school applications. I'm having a terrible time refining what exactly I want to pursue, as far as very specific phenomena, because so many things look so interesting!

    L. Michelle, I got it.  Thank you so very much!

Thank you all for the support in yesterday's MC thread.  I really appreciate it.  My meeting with the DA yesterday went very well, & hopefully, I will have an positive update for ya'll very soon.

My grandmother was hopsitalized last night, so when I leave work this evening, my younger brother & I are driving down to check on her, & stay for a day or two.  I really hope that she gets out quickly.

Oh my goodness, Amanda. Life just seems to be treating you rough these days. :( Best wishes for your grandmother for a quick and easy recovery.

I am glad the creepy coffee guy situation seems to be getting a little better, at least...

Amanda I missed this...not sure what is going on so I will check the other thread mentioned...sending good thoughts tho!

Busy, busy at work but it always is busy for me at this time, trying to get the previous month closed out and everything associated with that.

Amanda, sorry to hear your grandmother is in the hospital.  I hope you have a good visit with her.  I'm glad your brother is going along, watch your back. I think you are capable of taking care of yourself in most situations but having a man along can help dissuade some people from any thoughts of approaching you.  Kind of like a big dog but with only two legs. lol

I wish you guys would quit talking about that pumpkin spice coffee at Bigbucks. I'll have to make Candace's recipe, I'm too cheap to pay that much for one drink that doesn't have any alcohol. :)

DH is off today and playing golf.  He never has any cash and is always asking me if I have any.  Well, yeah I do and I have it because I either went to the bank and got some or to an ATM.  He has access to both but is always without cash.  I gave him what I had but he said here keep a dollar, in case you have an emergency.  Right, that will sure get me out of any emergency. Huh?

Jackie, I am my DH's ATM too.  It drives me nuts.

Jackie, I am my DH's ATM too.  It drives me nuts.

While I'm not as bad as the example Jackie gave, I never have cash, unless I make a specific trip to the bank to get some.  Normally this is fine, but the other day I was supposed to get dinner and we got to the Chinese restaurant, ordered....CASH ONLY.  Ooops.  BF had to pay, b/c he always has cash on him.  I felt kinda guilty, but not enough to not enjoy the deliciousness that is sesame chicken.

Jackie - ROFL!  Your DH needs to get into the 21 century!

I seldom carry cash, an old habit from when I was married.  The guy got $250/month to play with, but once he blew through it, he was always asking me for more.  If I didn't have any, he couldn't get any to waste on useless crap, like cigarettes, gambling, renting movies.   Guess who was in charge of his ATM card?

Amanda, I hope your grandmother gets well soon.

    • Gold Top Dog

I rarely carry cash either but DH always has more than enough. He prefers cash to ATM cards, but I'm the opposite.

Busy here today too and I'm glad I work with understanding people with a sense of humor cause I feel dumber than a box of rocks lately Stick out tongue

Amanda - I hope your grandmother is okay and look forward to some positive updates on the creep.

I saw something on the news this morning that one guy bit off the pinky finger of another guy at one of those town hall meetings. They were able to sew it back but geesh, c'mon folks!!

"Why all the fear" is what keeps coming to mind with the school address.  What on god's green earth do people think he's going to say?  I absolutely appreciate wanting to protect your kids from sentiments that maybe you don't agree with - politics is sticky stuff.  However, what do you really think he's going to say to Elementary school kids, aside from "working hard and advancing your education are keys to success"??  Maybe a little inspiration to pursue science and math for future careers in alternative energy?  Edit to add: I've just heard it will be available hours before it's broadcast - which does make me wonder why not sooner...

Friend's sister is out of the hospital from her bout with swine flu.  Amanda, I hope you grandmother is ok and recovers quickly.  Can you even catch a break?

I'm at the new library/cultural center and it is beautiful. Sitting in a nice thick leather chair. Cannot believe how nice this place is. We don't have the internet at home, so this'll probably be my new hangout for the net. Hard to get online while at work.

I am now working 5 days a week! But every other Saturday, which is okay, but I hate missing out on things going on at home on the weekends. I have some new responsibilities at work now too, which is okay but I don't like touching patients...whatever it pays my bills.

Ben went in for X-rays yesterday and had a visit with his neuorsurgeon, she okayed him to stop wearing the brace so he is very excited about that. She'll see him in another 6 weeks for more x-rays and if those look good then he can most likely go back to work! The hardware is holding up well. He just can't do anything that would send a jolt up his spine (ie. 4-wheeling, bike riding, lawn mowing). He is okay with that. She said that most likely he will not need physical therapy. That was so awesome to hear! I'm so proud of him, he is healing so well and no longer taking any meds. Things are looking good in his world!

I have horseback riding planned for Sunday with a couple of friends. I am paying for one friend to go because she is getting married on the 26th and it is my gift to her since I couldn't make it to her bridal shower. She's been dying to go horseback riding, so I thought it would be the perfect gift.
