So this weekend I got her a diaper (denim was all the pet supply store had) and some poise-type pads. Except during the night, she tried to pee with it on and ended up in a wet diaper because it went everywhere but the pad. She's very skinny, so I think the diaper slid down.
There IS a trick to getting the pad in the 'jeans' to do the most good.
Using absolutely the thickest pads you can get but the long skinny ones worked best for me. Cut them in half (so each pad makes two) and then use nylon first aid tape (not the waterproof one - you WANT it to be absorbent) to seal the cut end.
But take the rounded end and fold it back on itself about 1/2 to 1" -- THEN stick that end way up almost covering the tail hole. So when you put them on her, lift her tail so that seats way up under the tail. That way it leaks less if she really floods it. Typically the hole is SO big that they can completely miss the hole and it goes everywhere.
But dang, I used to cut and tape a whole box when I got them (including folding down the top edge) so we didn't have to fiddle with them when putting them on her. I tried just about everything I think, in the 6 years we had Socks. I *TRIED* "diapers" and man, they just did NOT work, and trying to figure out how to cut the tail hole was just plain a pain in MY buttinsky. (the last time I made blisters on my own hand trying to cut thru it *grr*)
You may want to re-schedule her just a bit -- or encourage her to tell you during the night if she's gotta go out (or put something super absorbent under her as well.
The other thing, FOR US (oh man, this brings back memories! LOL) -- I had to keep a sign on the back door "TAKE OFF SOCK'S JEANS" and literally put it ON the doorknob because you get so used to seeing them on the dog that you don't even THINK about removing them before you let them out. Then they come back looking at you like a 3 year old who waited too long at the playground except it was YOUR FAULT *grin*.
Watch her for a uti as well -- sometimes with an older girl they can start fast with less symptoms than you may have seen previously. (Ms. Kee has completely had to re-educate me on that one *sigh*)
