vent about nagativity to Pibbles ><

This is nothing against pibbles AT ALL. Its something My fiance said that just P*ssed me off so bad!

Ok I've been thinking about getting another pibble or pibble mix. I miss sassy, since she's 800 miles away i cnat just see her any time, plus she's my mom's dog.
Josh has no problem with pit bulls at all. he adores them, and he's also against the pibble ban. he thinks it's pointless. as All of us on here feel.

Well I've been drawing pibble pictures to add " Judge the deed not the breed" kind of stuff to them, just not those words, per se.
Create my own positive things to put on them.
    Well  here's our convo:

Josh: -sees me drawing- You want a nothe rpibble bad dont you?
Me- yes and no. yes i want one bad. No im not drawing these pictures for that reason.
Josh- I always know when you're longing for something, like your dogs, becaus eyou always start drawing them.
Me- well this is for a positive thing. You know, I really hate how some people are so negative towards them.
It;s not their fault, they were bred for dog aggression. If you train them properly and give them the attention they need, then people wouldnt have that problem.
Josh- Well thats not entirely true, my mom had a pit bull, and they treated it with tones of love and it ended up terring two of her other dogs apart.
me- That doenst mean the whole breed is like that! Just because one pibble did that doesnt mean all the others will be that way too.  Aparently your mom was missing something when it came to tending to that pitty.
Josh- i know, i have no problem with pit bulls at all i love em, im just saying they are well known for that behavior.

Ok needless to say, he wasnt completely ragging on them, but he did irk me with that. Just the way it was said.
Does any one else feel the same way i do? i knwo alot of people do. but have you guys ever had some one close to you say something neg. or something a long the lines of this, about pitty's or any other breed that has Just irked you to know end?
This was one of those events where i just wanted to shove a Bad rap shirt in his face and tell him to spend some time with my sassy girl and see how he feels then.
I love him but some times he can word things way wrong.

pit bull negativity is rampant among the many uneducated in my town. When i hear someone say something negative about a pit, i just ask, "have you ever been around one?"
95% say no. It really bothers me how people make claims and pretend to know stuff but have no evidence to back what they said up.
    • Gold Top Dog
Indeed. It bugs me to no end. I suggest they meet a pittu first, before judging so quickly.

    • Gold Top Dog
indeed--funny how everyone who has been around them loves them!

I think it's great thta you want to adopt another pit bull.

    HOWEVER

It's not 'all in how you raise them'. There's a genetic componnent, too, and pit bulls in general, particularly those raised well, are likely to end up as fantastic people-friendly pets, there's still a decent chance- largerthan many other breeds- that they will become dog aggressive when they mature, and, that if they DO become dog aggressive, they can do VERY serious damage to other dogs. Check out BadRap.org's articles- there's one on there that talks moer about this than I can really detail- I'm certainly not a breed expert. But to pretend that pit bulls are labs are beagles are poodles are huskies in a different body is just asking for trouble- they ARE terriers. :)

I have found most of the people that are negative are either not dog people or haven't interacted with one in person. Just seen the news and made their opinions for that.

Pardon my lack of knowledge but originally what were pitbulls bread for exactly?? bull baiting??
    • Gold Top Dog
Pittties were first kept for bull baiting (at least their ancestor breeds were).  When bull and bear baiting was outlawed, dog fighting took it splace.  Pitties have been used for that for roughtly 150 years.  Unfortunately, it still takes place.

However, Pitties do other things besides dog fighting.  They are police drug dogs, search and rescue, therapy dogs, reading dogs (kids read to them to learn how to read better), service dogs and much more.  My Am Staff (the AKC version of a Pittie) has been a breed ambassador for years.  She goes into the local schools and teaches kids about dog safety.

well I don't know but it seems to me that when a breed has bred for certain activities such as .... herding a flock, digging out rodents, or what have you. It would be hard to say... 'gee I've trained him and he won't ever do that again'. I'm not saying that Pitbulls are raving nut balls as news reports would have you believe. Not at all, but I think when generations of conditioning is in a breed it is hard to deny it with some training and a tender up bringing. Just a thought I just know that with all the training in the world my Newf is going to try to get to the water, and my shepherd is going to be protective of me. Sorry I know this will rub a few folks wrong, but I had to get it off my chest.

Some people are just plain ignorant. Today, one lady stopped me in the kennels as I was walking a dog, a pit mix, down to the medical building to be vaccinated. Her EXACT words were 'I hope you are putting that dog to sleep. Pit Bulls are dangerous and should all be put to sleep.'
Needless to say, the dog was not put to sleep, and was a perfect angel while I vaccinated her, poking and prodding, she just stood there and licked my face.
I informed the lady that pits are not all dangerous, and certainly should not be put to sleep.

Yes, some can be aggressive towards animals, but that is a managble behavior. Greyhounds don't belong around cats, but they are not put to sleep because of it! Little dogs are known to be snappy with people and esp. kids, but they are not put to sleep because of it. If you were to lay out all of the faults in every breed, then we might as well get rid of all the dogs, and stick with cats. But then, cats can scratch and bite when scared, so we might as well ban them too. Forget family pets, every animal has the potential to snap.

    Oh my little doggies again.
    • Gold Top Dog
I have never seen one do any snapping

I have seen plenty, I've personally been attacked by a cocker spaniel, and witnessed many others biting. I also own a little dog, I have nothing againt them. He has snapped at me, bitten me, drew blood. He's a little dog, it's what they do to protect themselves. Chihuahuas, Min. Pins, Terriers, Poodles, they are all known to be snappers - ask anyone who works with them on a daily basis (which I do). While your own dog may not, smaller dogs to have a tendency to be much more snappy. The smaller the dog, the more caution you need to use.

Have not seen a problem with the little breeds I have known.  Big and little, they can all do things that are not right.

the thing is though, that pits were not bred to be human aggressive. Dog aggressiveness is different.

Exactly. So why does everyone pick out the pits? They have not done anything worse than any other dog. Every dog (big and small) has the potential to be aggressive. Wake him up the wrong way, touch him the wrong way when he is not feeling good, any dog could react aggressivly. Not just the pit bulls.
