    Little dog/Big dog people

[sm=asking03.gif] Are we a total different breed?? I often find I am totally different to small dog people and all my friends with dogs have big dogs?

Is this a sterotype or are we generally a different type of person?

I don't think I'm that different from little dog people. When I take Misha out he wants to go and play with all the little dogs, he puts his face down toward them and wags his tail crazily. While all the big dog people I come across pull up their dogs at the first sight of him.

I don't like little dogs because I'm terrified that I'll hurt them, but I have no preference as to dog size. If, however, you're talking about little dog-dress-up... that's a whole other story.

I often find little dogs get picked up when my dog is spotted, which is funny cause he is always getting picked on by little dogs. Where we holiday at christmas time there is ladies that all walk together and I call their team of dogs the "Tiny Terrors" cause they alway chase Chip one a little terrier thing even nips at Chips heels it's quite funny.

I own 5 dogs, 1 is a pomeranian, 2 are wolf/gsd crosses, 1 is a timberwolf cross, and  a pure bred sibe husky.
My husky and wolf cross ( wysper, shes a red wolf/timber wolf cross ) LOVE playing with little dogs.  They are both so gentle and wouldnt harma  fly, of course any time im NEAR any smaller animals I provide close attention, to make sure play doesnt turn into something worse.  When walking gizmo, I dont find a reason to pick gizmo up, if i see a large dog that is off leash, im wary but i wont pick gizmo up unless the off leash dog presents some sort of problem.

I was ALWAYS a big dog person until we got Pekingnese dogs.  I realized at that point that these little "Lion Dogs" were every bit as tough as, and in some cases tougher than, big dogs.  I like smaller dogs now.  Breed dependent though.

I find that having a mid-sized (some call him "large") breed dog allows me to be more versatile.  I can go on long walks and hikes, I can run with him.  I don't fear for his safety like I would if he were say a Yorkie.

I don't think that large dog/small dog people are that different though.

I think there are differences a lot of times.   I absolutely pick my dog up when there is a big dog. When you have bad experiences, you would be a fool not to prevent a possible repeat.

Eh, what about people who own both small and big dogs? I own a Rottweiler and 2 Boston Terriers. [:D]

sometimes at the dog park, people leave when i come because my dogs are too big :(
i've gotten lucky a few times and people have given my dogs a chance and it's been wonderful. Kaiser is around my mom's jack russells all the time, and i guess that's why he really likes little dogs.
As far as the people go, it seems to me that people who own big dogs want to take them more places- like, my friends that have big dogs and i will take our dogs hiking, or to play in the creek, etc. My friends that have small dogs usually don't take them places, and if they do they get to be carried.

Little dogs get to any place. Bed and Breakfasts and places for vacations take small dogs. You can take any size dog anywhere though.

I agree.  I grew up with large dogs and now have small dogs and would love to have large dogs again some day!  I really don't think there's THAT much of a difference owning them.

I do pick up the little dogs around strange big dogs though and it's simply because the dog is much bigger than my little ones and I don't want them to get hurt.  I don't want to risk it.  But don't tell my little guys they can't go anywhere and that they have to be carried- they wouldn't like that.  ;)[/blockquote][/blockquote]

In my option I think people that like dogs like all dogs. The question is who do you want to live with you and are happy with a big dog or little dog or a mid size dog? I like small dogs. I don`t act different to a person whether they have a large dog or small dog. Yes I do pick her up when I see big dog coming our way. I feel better safe then sorry.

My issues aren't with the breeds of small dogs themselves it's the owners.  For some reason my dog needs to be on a leash, trained and housebroken but little dogs get a free pass.  It doesn't seem right.

    what?

Molly is leashed - trained and housebroken and she is a small dog. I guess I don`t see your point.
