I ALWAYS see Cairo look alikes on Petfinder and even out on the street. It's apparently a very common mix - there are TONS on Dogster that look identical to him. Most of them are down south in the South Carolina/Georgia area (Cairo was imported from West Virginia).

This is a picture of Cletus, who has already been adopted. I thought for sure that this was Buddy's brother and I was trying to adopt him, but the foster family got to him before I did.

Gosh it's hard trying to find a Nikki look alike...all the Goldens are too thick to look like her.

Ezra kindof looks like a younger Nikki but the colors are wrong..

I don't find it so much depressing as... well, it is depressing a little but I like to think that we can make people better aware of the fantastic dogs currently in shelters and rescues. So many seem to think it's just ugly or sick or defective dogs, and if we can show people that there are dogs out there, just like our dogs, who are waiting for a loving forever home, maybe someone will see and consider adoption when at first they had not.

Ya know, that's a good way to think of it. I'm going to hop over to the horse forum and post this - with a twist. Find your dog's, cat's, horse's, bird's, fish's etc., clone and post that. Really make everyone aware of not just how many dogs are homeless, but how many pets over all.

I agree with that 100%. Everyone who meets Cairo falls completely in love with him...it's nice to be able to tell people that I've seen so many of his look-alikes in shelters. I can only hope that it may encourage folks to adopt a mutt...though there isn't such a problem with that around here. Mutts get literally "sold out" of animal shelters here - when the occasional shelter gets a shipment of mutt pups here the lines go out the door into the parking lot to adopt them. It's like a clearance sale at a big store...you have to get there early to find the right puppy for you. When I got Cairo they got 37 pups in that morning...by the time I got there at 5 in the afternoon? 7 left. Cairo and his brother were 2 of them.

I see dogs a lot on petfinder that look like Cherokee, but I was having a hard time finding any today til just now.

ersonality matches. Too wiggly when getting attention to snap a decent picture (I've only gotten good ones of Cherokee since I bought my digital SLR), doesn't like cats or dogs, Cherokee's favorite thing to do with people she likes is get belly rubs.. Sigh.. Now I'm sad...

A very large senior neutered male blond dog was brought into our shelter on Thursday 8/2/07. Zeus is a sweetheart. He looks sort of like a huge Collie. Let's get this senior boy back home where he belongs.
