Hi everyone. Well I had an u/s on tuesday and the OB found several things wrong with the baby. First of all, the nuchal fold (space at the back of the neck0 was huge. The doctor didn't even need to measure it to know that it wasn't right. I could even see it wasn't right by looking at it. Also the intestines, which should be tucked inside the baby body cavity at this point are still outside and continuing to form. Neither of these are a good thing, but when they occur together indicate a high possibility of a genetic disorder. Particularly trisomy 13 or 18. Yesterday morning I had a cvs test done. They tested for trisomy 13, 18, 21(down's) and turners syndrome. If it is 13 or 18, the prognosis is not good for the baby. It has a 50% chance of dying before coming to term. If it survives until term then there is a high chance it will die within a few days/weeks/ at most a year. Down's and Turner's are a better prognosis, still not an easy road to travel. ANd if they all come back negative then we move on to genetic counseling, perhaps more testing to see if we may be dealing with some other kind of syndrome and what it may entail. First of all I will say that termination is not an option. I will get that out there. So I ask you to pray that we find strength in this time. And that when the burden gets to heavy to turn to God and give it to him to carry. This is definitely not a path I would choose to travel. No mother wants to hear the kind of news we have heard. But I am confident in a God who has a plan and purpose. Throughout our lives we have seen God make beautiful and wonderful things happen from seemingly tragic circumstances. As I look back I see how that was all in preparation for what we are facing. Also, please pray for the baby and the doctors and they work with us during this time. Pray that they are sensitive to our outlook. I will let you all know what we find out, or don't for that matter.
Thanks so much!
Emily
