Dog License?

It's the law here, too. And there's no way around it because whenever the vet gives the manatory vaccinations, the county is automatically notified.

What are the "mandatory vaccinations"? If you get a 2 or 3 year rabies (which is the only mandatory vaccs in my state) then you wouldn't necessarily be going to the vet and the county would not get notified. So as far as no way around it....

I do license my dog also. The potential benefits if my dog ever got lost or stolen outweigh the small fee IMO.

I just got a notice from the County....Shadow is due for his rabies in JULY...and the county reminded me of that fact.

When you get your rabies vaccine, which is required by law, a lot of states have the vet send a copy of the rabies cert to the county office so they can "catch" ya if you don't pay for the license.....

Marley has his license. He had to have his rabies shot before I could apply for it. It was like $15 for spayed/nuetered here, but it's like $90 for an intact dog...I guess they want you to spay/nueter [;)].

Ouch, $90 for intact dog.  I paid $15.50 for my intact dog.  It does vary from town, county and state.  I haven't gotten him neutered yet.  I waiting to recover finacially from the past vet bills.  Between the vet bills on my horse and dog...I am a bit ibn a hole at the moment.  But that is next on my list.

It's "required" here but not enforced.  You can buy them at the vet's or at the Animal Shelter.  The vet's don't want to do enforcement so they don't even mention them.  Mine were registered at one point, but haven't in 4 years.  We've even gone to events put on by the Humane Association where they were checking rabies tags.  Guess they didn't care about the licenses...

To my knowlege there is no licensing law in my city/county, nor is there any opportunity to do so. One county away, 15 mins by car, where my Dad lives there is. *shrugs* If we had the opportunity to do so here I would.

In my county and most neighboring ones, the tag IS the license.

yep, i checked the local ordinances and they call the rabies tag the license. so we are good.

yeah, I thought tha Rabies tag IS the lisence! Never heard of a separate liscense. You have to have the rabies here, so of course we do it. And the dogs wear the tags on their collars, along with ID.

Where we live we do not have too  license are dogs. For now that is.. We live in a area that is growing very fast!!  So im sure in the future we  will have too. But for now we do not have too...

I checked and the rabiestag is the license here.

My city requires a separate dog license tag, plus a rabies tag. I get the license tag at my vet for $12. I'm floored that it is so expensive for some of you! (and then not even required for others)

We just moved, and while I never got around to getting them licensed in Louisville, once we moved to Lexington and had a back yard they use pretty regularly I wanted to do it just in case they ever got out.  It's 8 for spay neutered dog/cat or 40 if unaltered.  Also, I volunteer at the humane society here, and the fees go to fund the spay/neuter program that they have here (low cost or free spay/neuter for low income families but other stuff) - plus if your dog ever gets picked up there is a huge difference between getting him out of the shelter if he's licensed vs. not.

I've always lived in a rural area where licenses are not required. We live in the city now and I just found out that we do have to have dogs and cats licensed. So I guess I'm going to do it. Just the dogs, not the cat because she never goes outside. It's not very expensive if they're neutered and microchipped--maybe $10 each.

we have to do the rabies and a city license here. They are now making vets report on rabies shots given, so the city can enforce the licensing (you can't get the actual rabies tag until licensed - this a new thing). Doing door to door checks also. You get served a summons and fine by the sheriffs office if you can't produce the "goods".
Thus, my boy is legal with rabies and license.

In Upstate NY where I live you cannot get licensed until you produce a rabies vaccination  certificate.  So we are opposite of you.  This has been an interesting subject.
