Dog License?

This topic reminds me of something I have to do Monday... I just hate our town and shudder at the idea of giving money to those arses, even if it is only $5.

Here it is 14 for spay/neutered and 24 for intact!! Thats not to mention the cost of the certificate. At least we don't need to pay for passes to the dog parks like some places do.

[link>http://forum.dog.com/asp/showProfile.asp?memid=6348]griffinej5[/link], I live in PA too. It's a state law to have a license.
In order to get the lifetime license, you have to either tattoo or microchip, that's probably why you can't get the form, you have to have one of those done. When I have mine chipped, the vet gives me the form. (And BTW, just so you know, it's a $300 fine for not having that $6 or $8 license)
Call your vet and ask about it.
I foster a lot of dogs for rescue, so once when I was in town, I just asked the county clerk for a pad of the yearly license forms for my fosters. She had no problem with giving it to me, and Jan 1, I just mail one in for each foster I have, then during the year, if I get another dog, I mail in one for them. Easy!
I hope that helped. Hugs ~ dee

We did get Charlie licensed for a few reasons:

    1. we got him from a humane shelter and they supposedly stop by randomly to check the dogs and I'd rather have done everything right.

    2.  We live on a main road and with my luck if he ever got loose we'd get fined.

    3.  Our town who are pain in the butts require it and do check on occassion.

Both my dogs are microchipped, although one was chipped upon adoption, and was adopted from a PA shelter. The other was chipped two weeks after by the shelter, but it's an NJ shelter. With the first dog, we were given the form when we took her home, the second dog, I guess they didn't because they're based in NJ. I've seen some other county's lifetime licenses online, but not mine. I highly doubt I'm ever going to be fined, but nonetheless, I should ask the vet if they have it or know when to get it when I take Max.

Man you guys have it good. I pay $25 for neutered/spayed dogs and if they're still intact its $60.

Here in Christchurch (NZ),  you have to license your dog yearly - council law- otherwise face getting a hefty fine (not what the amount is exactly, but i think its in the hundreds.. I think it costs about $50 to get a dog licenced (spayed/neutered)- which I think works out to be about the same as you guys.
They're also thinking of introducing compulsory microchipping of all dogs, which I think is a little crazy, personally.

We don't have rabies tags though, and dont have to pay for dog park passes (yay)

It`s really funny, I`ve read through all your post and I wish we`d live in the States. We pay €144, that`s about $180, every dog every year only for the license tag. Rabies tag also costs about $30 per dog and we have to microchip them which cost also $30 per dog....
And the money is so-called "luxury tax" and the cities don`t use for dog parks or to clean the streets...
It`s forbidden to unleash your dog almost everywhere here and when they get you it costs $30 for a small dog, $40 for a bigger one.
It doesn`t matter if your dog`s spayed or neutered, in some cities it only depends on what breed there`s in them. In an town next to us it costs €600-700, $770-$900, per year when you have a pit or amstaff or bullterrier...

Our dogs are licensed.  I live in a typical suburban city so it's not only responsible, but also a 'just in case' measure.  Our city requires it, we can get them at the city clerk's office, we pay 6$/dog/per year no matter if they are intact or not.  This year they are allowing you to buy according to the number of years left on your rabies cert. so my male Pyr is good until Jan of 2009.  Our setter just got his 3yr rabies redone so I can now go and buy a 3yr license for him as well if I wanted, but for now he's at least covered until Jan 2007.

Since we have to have the rabies cert. in order to get the license, my guys wear their license tag in lieu of the rabies tag since I have them wearing an assortment of other tags in addition to it.

I was happily surprised today. I stopped by our vet to get Bailey a new license for 2006 and found out that the $12 tag would be good for two years. Yay. Won't have to worry about it next year. [:)]
