Dog License?

Always learn something new here. I will check if this applies for my area.

JJ wear her dog license tag everytime when we go out.  Dog owners here may be fined if their dog is caught without one while in public.  For spay/neuter dogs it cost $8.50 and non spay/neuter dogs cost $11.50 here in NYC.  Some doggie daycare, groomer and etc here in the city also ask for a dog license number to be fill in on their forms.  It last a whole year and I don't have to renew it until next year!  I just wish they make more shapes of tags.  [&:]

I do it cause it's the law.  No other reason, really.  I've never been much of a rebel!

have never heard of anyone licensing their dog here. we get a  rabies tag every year when we get that done, but no other license that i know of.

In my county and most neighboring ones, the tag IS the license.

Lucky you!  Most require the rabies vaccine in order to even get the license.  It's not bad here....$8 for a spuetered dog, 10 for an intact one.

I assumed that was a given.  Yes, we get a tag/license with the rabies vaccine.  I know some people have to go to a govt office, but we get ours at the vet when we get the vaccine.

Eh, what I didn't say is that under state law the vet does report rabies vaccine recipients to the county so if you don't trot down and get the license, it's easier to "find" you.  So getting the license is not something I'd ever try to avoid....plus the fees help to pay for the strays and also the ACO's salary.  you couldn't pay me enough to keep that weapon in it's holster doing the job that man does and having to deal with some of the stuff he sees.

I have no idea if there's a fine for not having the dog licensed, although I assume there must be one. I've never heard of anyone actually being fined though, and I know plenty of people with unlicensed dogs. If it was easier to get the form, I think people would actually do it, or at least I know my family would. Millie has a license because we were sent home with the form, Max doesn't have one because I can't find the form to get him a lifetime license.

No license is offered or required where I live. Which makes sense, I live in the Dog Mushing Capital of the world, they'd all go broke if they had to license every dog!

Mine are both licenced.  They started home-checks last year after the pit-bull ban came into effect.  They went from house to house checking for dogs and looking at tags.  I don't know what the fine was, but I figured it was easier just to have the dogs tagged.  Apparently the home checks are starting again this month.  *sigh*

We also have a 2 dog limit ... so if you have more than 2 dogs you can't licence them unless they're more than 7 years old (I think that's the cut-off) because they're grandfathered.  (Or you live in the country with a kennel licence.)

They actually stopped me while running (I had one of the dogs out) and asked me if I lived at # Whatever St. and asked to see Wes' tag.  It was a little unnerving.

Willow has a license and I've gotten one for her every year since she came to me.  I think it's a great form of ID and just shows responsible ownership in general.

However, I WISH someone would ask to see it! I feel like it's such a waste of money even though it's only $15.

If we had home checks here, we'd be in trouble. Not because Max isn't licensed, but because the of them go nuts when someone rings the doorbell. Millie barks like a maniac, and Max takes a flying leap over the gate that blocks the door. When they got to my house, it would be torture for everyone involved.

Stef, where do you live?  I want to put that place on my checklist of where NOT to retire.

We have no limit on the number of dogs here, and you just go to the town clerk for your licenses.  $25 or $50 depending on the number of dogs you own.  Our last ACO still owns the Pit Bull he adopted from the shelter when no one would take her.  We have not had any problem with Pits or their owners here, since most speuter and train their dogs.  We have one owner who shows up at our shelter fundraiser each year with his three Pits all dressed up in costumes.  They're hilarious.

I get one for April, required by law.  For me, as a Senior Citizen, it only cost me $4.00.

I'm in Chatham Ontario.  The province wide ban came into effect last August.  Our town is especially dog-shy, we have a huge dogfighting problem and we've had several of the highly publicised pit bull attacks.
