Dog License?

    Dog License?

I was wondering how many people on here have their dogs licensed.

Why do you or do you not license your pet?

I just gor Harley's license today.  I want to be able to take him to the parks and such.  Plus, I don't want to pay a fine god forbid he gets lost and picked up and taken to the shelter.

Blue has his license and I do it just incase they can't fine me if they ever felt like looking around for unlicense dogs.

I do it for a couple of reasons.  There is the fact that it would help me to prove ownership should there ever be an issue and it would help get him back to me if he got away.  I do also need him licensed to be able to use the dog parks, although I don't do that very much anymore.

Lastly, as a dog trainer who reminds all of her students that they need to license their dog, I really should be doing it by example!  The more things I can do to help promote responsible dog ownership and hopefully more dog owner rights, the better.

First, it's the law. And, in trying to be a responsible dog owner, I get my dog licensed because I think it's the responsible thing to do... in my area it costs $12 for a spayed/neutered dog before April 1st.. $15 after... I don't think even $25 a year is too much. I am also required to have my dog wearing the tag at all times... I could be fined something like $25 if caught without it, or, if I don't liscense my dog, AC might make a visit.

Other than that, my other reasons pretty much coincide with everyone else.

I just got our licence.  It's $26CDN for a neutered/spayed dog ($40 otherwise).  The reason that ultimately made me do it is that some of that money goes to upkeeping our 1 and only dog park in our city.  We use it alot and I enjoy going there with Boomer and not having to keeping my eyes on the ground trying to avoid "landminds" every step I take.  It's kept very clean.

We don't have our dogs licensed since we live outside the citylimits. I always thought you only have to do this in the city. If I am wrong about this I need more info...
    Please. [:)]
(I know for sure it's required within the citylimits).

I guess that it would depend on the laws of your state.

In MY state every dog is supposed to be licensed and if they catch you with an unlicensed dog, you'll pay a hefty fine.  The licenses go through the individual counties.

I just went down to my town office building and got it today.  I live in a rural area.  I couldn't get it much earlier then today because I needed a rabies certificate.

have never heard of anyone licensing their dog here. we get a  rabies tag every year when we get that done, but no other license that i know of.

It's the law here, too. And there's no way around it because whenever the vet gives the manatory vaccinations, the county is automatically notified. It's not very expensive - $9 a year for spayed/neutered and $18 for intact.  I think of it as just another form of ID that could help Max get back home if he ever gets lost.

Millie is licensed, Max is not. Millie does not wear her license tag though, but I do know exactly where it is and have easy access to it. The only reason Max is not licensed is because I cannot find the form for the lifetime license, which is what Millie has. I've checked in some stores that have the forms for the annual licenses, and I searched the web for it, but I can't find the annual license application anywhere, and I don't want to do yearly licenses. The only place I know of that has the lifetime license forms is the County SPCA, since they gave us the form to apply for Millie's. It's pretty out of the way, there is nothing else anyone in the family goes to that is near it, and it would be at least an hour there and back, if not more to get it. I suppose the county courthouse should also have the forms, but nobody is ever really near that either. We go near it sometimes, but not right around it, and actually going would be kinda annoying. So, he probably won't have one unless the forms for a lifetime license are put online, or are distributed to the local agents that are supposed to have them.

I'm in a township, outside of city limits, and my licensing is with the county.  If you call the main office in your municipality (sp?) they should be able to tell you what the regulations are.

Hi Calypso, seeing you after a long time!!

When I bought Melby they gave me the paper work to get him licenced so I just continued with it.

We get the licenses.  $10 for spayed/neutered.  I wish they had lifetime options, as I'm always forgetting to get new ones.  Here we get them at the Town Hall through the Clerk's office.

In our city, the money goes toward the animal shelter, and the tags have the animal shelter's number so if she lost all her other tags, the animal shelter would know the address and such with their info.

And yeah, here you get fined too if they find an unlicensed dog, or if they pick up your dog and it isn't licensed.

Yes, I license my dogs. I do it because it is the law and I don't want to pay a $200 fine for not having them licensed...especially when getting them licensed is only $30 a year.
