Does your town have a dog limit?

We do not have a limit, thank god. However, a town over has a 2 dog limit. A new couple moved in with 3 dogs. They claim their agent told them there was no limit (not justifiable, I know). Someone complained and they were told get rid of a dog or move. Well, they took their story to the papers, which brought on all kinds of bad publicity for the city. Especially when mi is so hurting for home buyers and such. Finally, the city council decided to throw out the dog limit law.

I live in a condo and the HOA has a 1 pet limit with 2nd pet possible upon review and evaulation of the two pets (you literally have to bring the pet to the HOA meeting and have them meet it, etc.).  For the 2nd pet they can determine at any time if they 2nd pet is causing a problem you will have to remove them.  I am paranoid so we are just sticking with one right now.  The city, has no limit that I know of.

My city has a limit of 5 animals, which I thought included no more than 3 of any one kind, but I can't find that now. We're over 5 at the moment (have 7), but honestly, it changes too much to worry about it. My house is like a human rescue that accepts pets. hahaha.. We have 4, maybe 5, permanent pet residents.

Our county has a 6 dog limit, our town has none, there are no limits for other animals AND you can get a kennel license if you wish to have more then 6 dogs. 2 dog limits are ridiculous, I think honestly if it were me, I'd move.

No limit here, you just need a kennel license for 5 or more, but that saves you money on the licensing fees.  If they imposed a limit that would force me to reduce my "pack" I would move or live in my car.

pah... 2 dogs is great. here the limit is ONE!

honestly i wouldnt add a dog unless i knew it's legitimate. i got both of mine before i knew about the 1 dog limit, and it really sucks having to be so cautious ALL the time. i dont even take them outside of my apartment complex together unless there's someone else with me... (that way it isnt so obvious: 1 person - 2 dogs...)

hmm Don't know if we have a limit, and if we do I'm sure I'm over it.

    • Gold Top Dog

We don't, that I'm aware of. I'm babysitting for an ACO right now, who owns 4. With my 2, that makes 6 on the property, at a time, LOL. I'm pretty sure there's not a limit.

There is no limit where I live now, but it is considered pretty "country". However, when I lived in the city there was a 2-dog limit. I had three dogs.

Our city doesn't really check anything, and it's really only for dogs who cause problems. I know of several homes in the city that have several dogs. It's part of the reason we found somewhere countryish to move, though, so that we wouldn't have to worry about how many dogs someone else told us we could have.

Our town has a combo for dogs and cats - limit of 4 and another limit of 4 or 6(can't remember) for "small pets" such as mice, hamsters, birds, ect. Unless a person REALLY messes up and the police are just looking for things to ticket it's not enforced - ever. Sad part about that is it also means the response for cruelty is almost non-existant. Animal laws locally aren't a priority at all here. Sort of related - how much do you guys pay for liscences? Here it's $1.50 for spayed/neutered animals and $2.50 for unspayed/neutered animals.

Our limit is three dogs and/or cats. Needless to say we're well over that and have been for some time. No one really cares in our neighborhood. Technically, it's just the HOA that has the limit an not the county so I don't worry about it.

Holy cow!!!  That's cheap!  In my county it's $10 for spuetered dogs and $20 for unaltered.  The price for unaltered went up $5 this year -- it was $15 previously.  The county doesn't want to fund our animal shelter, so they try to make enough off the license fees to cover costs.  Only thing is, it tends to backfire because when the price is higher, more people tend to not bother registering their animals.  They also keep changing the locations of where you can pick up the licenses, which makes it that much harder for people to get it done.  I live in an incredibly stupid county.

Here it's 10$ for a speutered and 20$ for intact IF you buy before Feb 31. After it's 30$ for speutered and 60$ for intact.. Yeah.. I don't license until my dog is fixed. Lol. Oh! And you don't have to license if the dog is under 6 months of age.

We pay a flat $10 - the license expires when your vaccine does, either 1 year or 3. If you have an intact animal, and you choose to alter it - the license fee is waived for the next year. We also have lifetime tags - we don't get new numbers each year (budget cuts...) unless you lose yours, then I'm not sure what happens.

Our town has a limit of 3 animals per house, period. We are clearly over that with 3 dogs and 3 cats, so I choose to not register the cats (they are strictly indoor anyway). If we get a 4th dog while we are still living here, I'll probably register the dog to my parents' address just in case it should come up, but the town doesn't enforce the limit unless there is a complaint/problem.

I'm *very* careful not to draw attention to my animals and all of my neighbors know I have an "open door" policy if they have any complaints about my dogs, namely barking or the like. I have yet to receive one complaint from any of the neighbors *knock on wood* and was even informed recently by one neighbor that we had lived here six months before she even knew we had animals because our dogs are so quiet. I'm glad to hear that because it sure doesn't sound that quiet within these four walls though!
