I have no concerns about my dogs matching as I can't really imagine having more than one dog at a time. BUT - I know what you mean by mismatched dogs. A lady down the street has a Saint Bernard and a little white fluffy dog. They are both beautiful dogs but when I see her out walking them it looks very odd to me. We don't always 'pick' our dogs. Sometimes they present themselves in some manner or circumstance and they end up being our dog. Most people have preferences, be it size, breed, colour etc. so most packs do match as a rule.

It annoys me, a little, yes. My dogs are completely different. They're the same height, and they're both longer than tall, but that is where it ends, LOL. Emma has button ears, and Ena has standy ears (because the real word for that is starred out). Emma is 19 lbs, and Ena is 13 lbs (so Emma is MUCH heavier bodied). Emma is double coated, and Ena is hairless. I'd like to look at a matching set. It would be fun!

Of course, that aside, they adore each other, and their opposite personalities both suit me, completely. The three of us are ridiculously perfect for each other. And besides, I can always borrow another Ena-type Crested if I want to walk two Cresteds, LOL. I know *plenty* of them!

Like someone else said, I'm more of a one of each type person, but I still stay within a few herding breeds....and I like candy colors. I have a tri color sheltie and a blue merle sheltie, and I'd love a sable...I have a blue merle bc and I'd love a black and white...I have a red merle aussie and I'd like a red tri. But it's not like I go around to breeders looking for colors, I look at petfinder and keep an eye on certain rescue websites, and if one comes up that fits and if the time and finances are right, I'll go for it. And I admit that color and breed make a difference to me, but I feel like as long as I'm not supporting the wrong type of breeder, I should be able to indulge my color "thing". While I love all dogs, there are only a very specific type that I'd bring into my home to stay...others may pass through if they are in need, but weird or not, I have a vision of what I want my pack to look like. *shrug*

Oh, I love when dogs match, I think it's SO cute.  I have one neighbor with three little Yorkies and one with a couple of Shi-Tzu's.

My dogs don't lol!  Sophie is big and graceful, a real beauty. Cruiser is short and a little clown.  They are the best of friends and I love them both.

We did actually look for a mutt that looked like Sophie when we were looking for a second dog.  There aren't a lot of Keeshond mixes around, especially in this area or from rescues with transport available.   I'd love to say there are certain attributes I look for, but really all I wanted were mutts  that were a good fit for us, the two that were perfect are two totally random mixed breeds.  Sometimes I do wish they were more matchy matchy, but I have no regrets either!

i can honestly say in all my years as a dog owner this has never even once crossed my mind lol the only match i'm worried about is in regards to personalities.

the breeds i go for (with the exception of Dobes) dont usually have a uniform look to them anyway unless it's a solid white, or patch eye.

i see the point in matching sizes though. when my aunt brings her Maltese to visit she keeps her leashed and well away from my pack. Sparta, being the big dumb puppy that he is only sees another dumb puppy to play with. But all my aunt and i see is a sqashed maltese!

I hadn't really thought about it, but my two match ;) And I think it's cute they have simmilar collars. Oh and I also think it's cute to dress twins alike when they are small. I have twins in my fam and they are in college, and choose to dress alike in family photos. They are very different people, but like to play up one of the things that is special about them.

In terms of breed, my guys match - all Schnauzers. Although, in terms of reality, I suppose they are different enough to have many people screw it all up. LOL.

Gaci is black, Shimmer and Zipper both s/p, but Shimmer has a full tail. Zipper has the cutest half-up/half-down ears (the result of a line of cropped dogs, and he is not cropped)

I suppose they aren't really matching because I get asked if Gaci is a Scottie, am told Shimmer is a mixie because she's not docked. Big Smile

But personally, matching is not that important to me. It's how the dog fits into the home, and generally how well everyone coexists.

Agreed.  I'm glad I'm not the only one!

I guess my two are sort of color coordinated (Sally being a brindle w/ dark and light brown markings and Jack being dark chocolate), but I did not intend it.  Actually, Jack was supposed to be black, but when it came time to pick a pup I liked his personality better than the black males there.  With me, I do look at breed, due to the fact that there are certain traits I'd like to go for in future dogs (very social with dog and human, athletic but even tempered, enjoys the water, matures large but not giant, etc).  I can't say that color is that big a deal to me though.  I tend to prefer dark colored dogs, so if possible our next dog would be black or chocolate/liver colored (depending on breed), but if a yellow pup of the right personality came along, I'd be all over it.  A good dog is never a bad color.
