Do people ever think you're nuts?

My parents and sister are "cat" people.  They think I am nuts for even owning a dog! [8|]

I agree completely. I get tons of comments too, and they say it's stupid for me to "waste my money on them." I'm not wasting my money if that's how I want to use it. Some people will never understand ..and sometimes I don't even bother to try and explain. I figure if they don't "get it" they never will.

Btw, three dogs isn't too many if you can care for them, give them time, ect. which I'm sure by the way it sounds.. you can. []

Three dogs is not all I have, I also have a cat and a bearded dragon (not currently living with me).  According to my sister, I'm a hoarder.  She doesn't understand why people want more than one pet.  Most people think that I waste my money, my grandmother thinks it's selfish to spend money on animals when there are starving children in the world.  My friends aren't that bad, but they think it's ridiculous that I order dog food online, won't board my dogs, etc.  When I had my bearded dragon I had a supply of crickets and superworms in my closet, apparently that made me certifiable...that and the fact that Bindi has a baby blanket and took baths in the tub.  Oh Well...I'm glad I'm not the only one.

I hear ya.  I grew up on a farm with all kinds of animals, including wandering wildlife...so animals are my comfort zone.  For many years, in my 20's, I was without animals.  We currently have three dogs and will be adding horses (probably other animals as well) in the next few years.

Some of my close family is located 12 hours away and we don't visit too often because we won't board our dogs (very few people we would trust to care for them).  Where we go, they go...when it comes to trips and vacations and we don't take vacations regularly.  I even bring them to work with me when weather permits.

So the biggest gripe I get is that I don't DO enough...like visit.  If they think we don't have the time now, when we get horses nobody will ever see us, lol.  I did hear once, from one of them, that we do this on purpose.  [] ...maybe!

My whole extended family thinks I'm a nutter!  They all like dogs, but not the way I do. Mainly they think I'm nuts b/c I have three cats in our tiny apartment, and b/c I started getting cats while I was still in college.  It's mostly the money - they know pet deposits are expensive and to them, it's not worth it.  But, like I tell everyone else, I've never had a car, cell phone, iPod, video game system....and I think those things are expensive and not worth it!

My mom likes the dogs well enough I guess - I bring them over to her house every Sunday with the kids, and she pets them and walks them when they are there, she just grew up in a time when dogs lived outdoors and you didn't spend much money on them, I guess. To her they are disposable. I refer to them as her grandchildren just to see the look on her face. I know she'll flip when I bring home a third dog, and she'll want to lecture me on all the other things she thinks I could do with my money, but she also knows that this is something I've wanted for my life since I was a kid. I used to play kennel and pretend I had one of each kind of dog in my back yard, lol. I won't go that far - three is the limit until I can get some land - but I finally married a man who shares my interest in dogs and this is what we want to do with our time. I just get frustrated feeling like I have to justify it to people. Like someone said, it gets really old.

Yup, all the time. I think people who don't love animals are the crazy ones!

People think I'm nuts because I won't board my dogs to travel.  They wonder why I don't want to go to Florida or visit the Grand Canyon.  Once they find out I was a long haul trucker for twelve years, they have a slightly better idea of the fact that I have already seen more places in this country than they have.  But, I suspect they still think I'm nuts!!! []
Anyway, I did all those miles (more than a million) so that I could have a place big enough for all my animals.

Anyone who knows me knows I'm crazy when it comes to animals.  I'm the first one to admit it.  I long to have a few acres and more animals.  I only have one dog, 3 cats and a fish and I am always trying to convince my husband to allow another animal into our lives.  I'd like chickens, although we aren't currently zones.  I'm dying for a second dog. 

A good friend of mine has 5 acres and more animals than I can count.  I'm in heaven when I visit.

i'm asian... so my ENTIRE family thinks i'm nuts for taking the best proper care i can of her.

and i only have one dog.

why? cause she talks to me, eats organic food, i love her like my own child, take her to school, etc etc.

my father wants me to go somewhere early tomorrow morning w/ him, i said i didnt want to...so he said he'll kidnap my dog so i have to. [8|]

i think he loves her just as much as i do.. i mean.. come on.. he MADE her a doggy door, feeds her a bit of almost everything he eats, plays a game of fetch w/ her ever day etc.  he's also the one who does the "lawn duty" picking up poop... lol

Haha.  My asian family thinks I am crazy too.  One of my sister say I shouldn't because I'm in college.   My other sister hate pet because of exhusband.  He would always bring  animal home (dog,cat,turtle,etc).  Just leave them in the back yard.  Dont bath them.  Don't pick up the feces.  There is a reason why it is exhusband.  And parent never let me have dog because it is "too much responsibility".

I get "the look" sometimes, when I'm walking my two... I just grin and tell myself that they don't know what they're missing!

I'n my weird little neighbourhood, they used to refer to me as that crazy dog lady cause I'm always chasing stray's, petting strange dogs, etc.  A couple of days ago, I was walking my foster dog Jake (leg amputated because of bone cancer).  He is my 2nd tripod. 
As we passed a bunch teenagers, I could hear one say "what the heck is wrong with that dog"  Another one piped up saying "Its only got 3 legs.  That lady always has gimpy dogs"  
Guess now I'm the gimpy dog lady........................ so yeah, most of them figure I'm nuts.

a couple of people say that when they die they'd like to be reincarnated as my pets.

People (including family) DO think I am nuts for having 2 cats and 2 large dogs in a condo.. but even if I didn't have them, they would think I was nuts anyway and they would likely be right!  SO I don't let it bother me. I figure if they think I am weird.. let them... "normal" is too boring and life is too short to care what others think of you![]
