Do people ever think you're nuts?

For those of you with multiple dogs/animals, do your friends and family ever think you're crazy? I have two dogs and two cats now, plus my two kids, and I'm trying to adopt a third dog. I know if I get another my mom and my ex husband will think it's weird. My mom already makes comments for no reason, like I should sell the dogs, or she wishes I would keep them outside, or "don't you think it's time to draw the line", like it's any of her business, and my ex makes reference to my "zoo". I know there are people out there with way more animals than me...three dogs is not too many, right?

Everyone thinks I'm crazy, and those comments get old really quickly.

My mom has 3 horses, 3 dogs(was 4, but one passed due to cancer), 1 rabbit, 2 guinea pigs, 3 goats, and 10 cats, but to be fair they live on 15 acres.

I agree completely. I get tons of comments too, and they say it's stupid for me to "waste my money on them." I'm not wasting my money if that's how I want to use it. Some people will never understand ..and sometimes I don't even bother to try and explain. I figure if they don't "get it" they never will.

Btw, three dogs isn't too many if you can care for them, give them time, ect. which I'm sure by the way it sounds.. you can. [:)]

    I currently have the following:

6 dogs (5 are companions, 1 is a working dog in training)
9 rats (one of which is expecting, hopefully- she was recently bred)
    2 ferrets
7 rabbits (meat rabbits, to be fair)
    1 guinea pig
2 goats (both nannies- looking for a billy and possibly a few more nannies)
    1 fish (betta)
    15 chickens (getting more soon)
3 "feral" cats that live under my barn. They're not tame, but I feed them and in return they keep rodents under control. They were here when I moved in. I'm saving up to catch all 3 and vaccinate/speuter them.

My mother is in the process of buying a horse, which will basically be mine: the agreement is that she'll buy the horse and pay for it's expenses, and I'll care for the horse and keep it on my property. She'll come out to ride on weekends. Knowing my mother, she'll pay for the VERY basics and the rest she will deem "unncessary," so I'll end up paying for what she won't- and, in a couple of years, when she gets tired of the horse (which I know she will) I made her promise that she'll give him to me rather than selling him, since I'll be attached. Basically, this will be MY horse, since I'll be doing all of his care and interracting with him the most. Really, she just wants to come out and ride him on occasion.

Plus I'm looking for more goats, to breed for meat, pets and milk.

Plus I'm going to order more chicks soon.

Plus I'm going to order some guinea hens, ducks, geese, and turkeys.

Plus I'm saving up for a horse of my very own, in addition to the one my mother is getting.

Plus I'm considering a Bearded Dragon, since I miss having reptiles.

Plus I'm considering a small Llama herd, for fiber, pets, and possibly meat.

Plus I'll be getting a few piglets to raise for meat, in a few weeks I hope.

Plus I'm saivng up to buy a nice Jersey calf to raise for milk, and her calves will be kept for meat.

So yes, I have, and am planning to get, a TON of animals. We recently bought an 8 acre farm though, so we're in the process of stocking it with animals, so to speak. Yes, everyone thinks we are NUTS. No one DH and I knew could even begin to understand why we moved out of the suburbs and into the boonies. The truth is, we LOVE it here- I've always wanted a farm of my own- we just moved in a month ago, and I've never been so happy in my life. Non-Animal people just don't seem to get it- and that's fine. We love it out here, and other people just don't know what they're missing. [:D]

They all think I'm nuts, and pretty much quit asking questions lest I get all technical on them.  The one dog isn't an issue, the 20+ fish tanks, over 850 gallon breeding setup makes them wonder about my sanity.

i'm asian... so my ENTIRE family thinks i'm nuts for taking the best proper care i can of her.

and i only have one dog.

why? cause she talks to me, eats organic food, i love her like my own child, take her to school, etc etc.

my father wants me to go somewhere early tomorrow morning w/ him, i said i didnt want to...so he said he'll kidnap my dog so i have to. [8|]

i think he loves her just as much as i do.. i mean.. come on.. he MADE her a doggy door, feeds her a bit of almost everything he eats, plays a game of fetch w/ her ever day etc.  he's also the one who does the "lawn duty" picking up poop... lol

I have 7 dogs and 3 cats.....my family thinks I need my very own padded room. My mom always has something negative to say about my animals. My babies make me happy so I don't worry to much about her and her expectations for my life.

The neighbors think I am completely nuts and love to call the dog warden but there is nothing he can do so he has stopped coming! My mother when she could still drive use to pull into the driveway and blow the horn so I would have to go outside to visit! Go for it three in a nice number!

The header made me laugh out loud!  Boy has that horse bolted. Not only do I have three dogs, two cats and three parrots, but I essentially bought two acres in the woods for them. I don't mind at all; I have the life I've longed for, and besides, a couple of people say that when they die they'd like to be reincarnated as my pets.

Well, I have five dogs and 9 sheep, so not quite the menagerie as some... many of my friends have twice or more the number of dogs I do. But my Mom still manages to make snide remarks that *almost* sound like interest and praise but aren't... she actually mocks the fact that I have sheep and thinks it's stupid (my little sister ratted her out). My Stepmom and Dad also make mocking comments, but since they've finally come out to see my sheep and watch my dogs work the snide comments appear to have ceased. My husband's family, however, is very supportive.

Oh well. When it's Easter and we're eating the lamb that I raised on grass with no hormones or antibiotics - minimal intervention... she can sit over there and enjoy her dry turkey. [;)]

I do hear this one a lot - "You have how many dogs now??? [sm=lol.gif] That one cracks me up, because their eyes are so wide when they ask it.

    I totally get it. [;)]

I only have 2 dogs and 1 cat and even I think I'm crazy sometimes!

The only comments I really get though is how I spoil my dogs so much - and burn money on doggy day care

I'm pretty lucky. My parents have three cats and the only reason I think they don't have a dog is they are very busy and travel a lot [well, and their current cats hate and detest all dogs], but they love all my pets as their own. Whenever they come over they make a special effort to go seek them all out (the cats have their little hidden spots they like to hang out in) and give them all individual love and attention. DH's parents are not really animal people--they have one cat that they took in because he was a stray DH found when he was in college, but that's it and when that cat passes I am sure they will not be getting another. But they've never said anything about our pets, and they even let us bring a dog with us when we come to visit them, which is really nice.

None of my friends have as many pets as me but they all have at least one (my best friend is a crazy cat lady in training I think, by her own admission) and everyone loves my pets and is there for us if we need someone to help out with them.

As I say, I'm really lucky and I feel for all you folks who are not getting support from your loved ones for your responsible life choices.
