I currently have the following:
6 dogs (5 are companions, 1 is a working dog in training)
9 rats (one of which is expecting, hopefully- she was recently bred)
2 ferrets
7 rabbits (meat rabbits, to be fair)
1 guinea pig
2 goats (both nannies- looking for a billy and possibly a few more nannies)
1 fish (betta)
15 chickens (getting more soon)
3 "feral" cats that live under my barn. They're not tame, but I feed them and in return they keep rodents under control. They were here when I moved in. I'm saving up to catch all 3 and vaccinate/speuter them.
My mother is in the process of buying a horse, which will basically be mine: the agreement is that she'll buy the horse and pay for it's expenses, and I'll care for the horse and keep it on my property. She'll come out to ride on weekends. Knowing my mother, she'll pay for the VERY basics and the rest she will deem "unncessary," so I'll end up paying for what she won't- and, in a couple of years, when she gets tired of the horse (which I know she will) I made her promise that she'll give him to me rather than selling him, since I'll be attached. Basically, this will be MY horse, since I'll be doing all of his care and interracting with him the most. Really, she just wants to come out and ride him on occasion.
Plus I'm looking for more goats, to breed for meat, pets and milk.
Plus I'm going to order more chicks soon.
Plus I'm going to order some guinea hens, ducks, geese, and turkeys.
Plus I'm saving up for a horse of my very own, in addition to the one my mother is getting.
Plus I'm considering a Bearded Dragon, since I miss having reptiles.
Plus I'm considering a small Llama herd, for fiber, pets, and possibly meat.
Plus I'll be getting a few piglets to raise for meat, in a few weeks I hope.
Plus I'm saivng up to buy a nice Jersey calf to raise for milk, and her calves will be kept for meat.
So yes, I have, and am planning to get, a TON of animals. We recently bought an 8 acre farm though, so we're in the process of stocking it with animals, so to speak. Yes, everyone thinks we are NUTS. No one DH and I knew could even begin to understand why we moved out of the suburbs and into the boonies. The truth is, we LOVE it here- I've always wanted a farm of my own- we just moved in a month ago, and I've never been so happy in my life. Non-Animal people just don't seem to get it- and that's fine. We love it out here, and other people just don't know what they're missing. [
