Are you a breeder who really cares?

I understand that these policies are an attempt to protect the dog and that they are well intentioned. The fact remains that I am very attached to my dog. I know that the breeder or shelter does not want to take the dog away but I simply would not risk it. If I am raising and taking care of the dog then I will be the one who decideds what is best for it. I would not trust someone wles with this responsibility. I guess that is really the same thing you are saying. You do not trust the person buying the dog I do not trust the business or organization selling it.

… if I DIDN”T trust the person looking to buy a dog from me, then quite simply… they wouldn#%92t get a dog from me.

What if you were no longer able to decide ‘what is best for the dog#%92 ?

When a buyer dies or is no longer physically/mentally capable of caring for the dog, it is usually the family members that decide it#%92s fate… whether a family member or friend takes on the dog, or if no one can or wants to take the dog, the option is to bring him back to me, NOT abandoning him at a shelter.
This is the intent for my return clause.

Sorry, but I don#%92t understand your logic:
( I do not trust the business or organization selling it)

If you don#%92t trust the business or organization you are dealing with, regardless of what it is you are purchasing, then why deal with them???

Actually, there are many responsible breeders.  But, they will never succeed in improving their breed, or educating the public, so long as the public would rather go to the pet store instead of waiting a year or more for the responsible breeder's next litter, or being asked if they have a fenced yard, or a suitable living arrangement for the breed in question.  It's really sad when legitimate, responsible, caring breeders, who sell with lifelong guarantees, all health clearances, educational support, and spay/neuter pet contracts, are painted with the same brush as the fly-by-night Internet types, the byb's who sell to the first person that comes along, or the puppy mills.  There are good and bad in every hobby and profession.  Our OP clearly loves dogs, but needs more education, that's all.
