Quick - how many computers am I holding up?

The line about Guns and Hoses immediately brought mind "You could be mine."

Today was pretty productive.  Last night I was too lazy to bring Nikon's crate in from the car so we let him sleep out and he did good.  DH got up early and let the boys out so I slept in til 10.  I spent an hour giving Coke a haircut (and I only did his ears and paws!) but he looks really good now and doesn't get balls of snow and ice stuck on his feet.  Then I vacuumed the house and did my laundry.  The landlords showed up so I went out and scooped poop in the yard (not that I don't usually, but I'm more inclined to do it when the landlords are around b/c sometimes their kids play in our yard and play with my dogs).  I *think* I finished the logo/slogan project, just waiting to hear back from the woman on what changes she wants finalized.  I got out my external drive and backed up my laptop.  I ran a full hour on my elliptical.  The only thing left on my to-do list for the weekend is post-processing all the pictures I took in Africa 4 years ago and get them backed up on Flickr.

Oh we also left Nikon out in the house while we left for the first time today.  We went down the street to get some take-out and left him out.  He is still very much an opportunistic chewer but for just 15 minutes or so at a time I think it's worth a try.  When we got home a handyman was fixing our porch door, so he probably distracted Nikon from doing anything bad!

We didn't make it the Guns & Hoses game. DH got home from the gym about 11:30. I made a nice breakfast and after we ate, he laid down on the couch. Within 5 min's, he was konked out. The poor guy gets about 3-4 hrs sleep each night of his 48 hr shift and on top of that has a nasty cold, so going would've been a bad idea. It was overcast and windy too, so I was happy to stay home and rest. It can be a really fun time though. They have RVs set up and people making mixed drinks and lots of food. There was supposed to be an after-party too, but I'm 100% sure that DH wouldn't have made it that far as tired as he was.

I took about a 2 hr nap myself and it felt great. I have just the teensiest feeling that I'm getting sick again too, but I'm in denial that it could be possible. I have way to much going on in the next few days to get sick right now.

Speaking of feeling under the weather, I woke up this morning thinking I had a chest cold. But I have felt a little better as the day went on. A little while ago, I ran through my set on my guitar and my voice was strong and steady. So, I've just been suffering allergies, it would seem. The high range songs, "Highway to Hell" and "Long Way to the Top" usually wear me out but not this time. And I nailed the high notes in "Holy Diver" by Ronnie James Dio as if I invented them.

Shadow and I had a nice, brisk walk earlier. One of DW's clients has invited us to her daughter's 1 year b-day party tomorrow. So, we will do that and then get stuff to make Mexican Black Bean Chili.

Jade likes to get in trouble. She broke a coffee mug in the front bathroom and lost some fur on the toilet paper holder getting away. But she's okay, proving that cats have 9 lives. Well, 8.2, now.

I finally got to see "Fight Club" all the way through and the ending was not what I expected.

OTOH, "Down Home with the Neelys" makes me want to cook some beer can chicken and red beans and rice, some day. I identify with the husband. I, too, am at home on the grill. In fact, the only thing I cooked on the grill that didn't turn out right was some deer backstrap. I cooked it too hot and fast. Next time I cook backstrap, I will use the slow cooker.

I was reading a link in another thread about a kid who wanted to give his one surviving Labradoodle pup to the Obamas. I clicked on another link on that news page to watch Obama's inaurguration address. Excellent speech and I hope he does well.

    "Highway to Hell"

Man, I love that song!! I just didn't get the "Fight Club" and didn't enjoy it. Do you think there are people who really do that? It's odd that violence in movies doesn't generally upset me, but that movie did. Maybe too realistic?? Oh, and I love "Down Home with the Neelys". It's such a fun show and I love the stuff they make. Thinking about black bean chili makes me hungry. I LOVE chili of just about every kind.

    Man, I love that song!!

    "Livin' easy, lovin' free.

Season ticket on a one-way ride.

Ask for nothing. leave me be.

    Taking everything in my stride.

    Don't need reason.

    Don't need rhyme.

Ain't nothing that I'd rather do.

    Going down, party time.

My friends are going to be there, too ...

I'm on the highway to Hell..."

    Nobody's gonna slow me down

Like a wheel, gonna spin it

    Nobody's gonna mess me round

    Hey Satan, payed my dues

    Playing in a rocking band

    Hey momma, look at me

I'm on my way to the promised land

I'm on the highway to hell"

Thanks Ron!  I'll be singing this for days!

In fact, the only thing I cooked on the grill that didn't turn out right was some deer backstrap. I cooked it too hot and fast. Next time I cook backstrap, I will use the slow cooker.

Hubby has made this same mistake as well but last summer, he looked up recipes and found a great one for backstrap that turned out great both times he made it on the grill.  We even served it to our guests on the 4th of July and it was a huge hit!  I will try to find it for you if you want me to.

I haven't been around much lately.  My aunt got sick on Christmas day and ended up in the hospital with pneumonia 2 days later fighting for her life.  After a 3 week rollercoaster, we took her off the ventilator last Friday afternoon and she went quickly and peacefully.  I was there with her, along with her husband, daughter and sister when she took her last breath.  We are all really close.  It was quite an experience that I can't stop thinking about.  I have never seen someone die before and thankfully it wasn't as dramatic as I worried it might be, but the things we talked about and told her about during the hour it took for her to leave where interesting.  We cried and laughed harder than I have ever in my life reminiscing about the loved ones that would be waiting for her.  When we finally stopped crying so much and started laughing more, she finally relaxed and I think that is when she really started to leave us.  It really felt like I had run a marathon by the time I got into bed that night.  It brought my cousin, uncle and other aunt and I even closer together which I never thought was possible b/c we are already so close.  I was really really close with my aunt that passed.  Going through the house and snooping through everything looking for valuables has told me even more about her that I knew but didn't quite realize...it is all just really surreal for me still.  It has been a really long week!

On a brigher note, I am so thankful for my beautiful baby girl!  The circle of life is so bittersweet sometimes, but she is my reason for getting up each day....she is 6 weeks old already which doesn't even seem possible.  Today she sat in the bumbo for the first time and as always, I just think she is the cutest thing I have ever seen!  Well, I am off to go kiss all over her some more!  :)

boneyjean, I'm sorry you lost your Aunt, who was so loved.  She had the kind of death I would wish for myself and anyone I loved. Surrounded by loving family and looking forward to the next part of her journey. I know what you mean about it all feeling surreal, it takes a while for the reality to sink in.

We are going to the Botanical Gardens when it warms up a bit.  They are having "Dog Days in the Park". It will be nice to go when the weather isn't so hot, normally it's in the warmer months.  I hope we get some good pic's.  I was a helper for a dog trainer friend yesterday.  She has a client, very nice gal, with two, dog reactive dogs. I took my three and my friend brought two of her dogs, all non reactive.  It was a lot of walking, back and forth, up and down and all around.  The clients dogs were just totally bored by the dogs by the end and everyone was happy. Doesn't mean the problem is solved forever and ever, but the client sees how to handle her dogs and sees that it is entirely possible to train her dogs to ignore others.  They aren't very severe cases to start with and I think she will do fine. I was very proud of Belle, my wild thing, she behaved so nicely. Sometimes Belle surprises me, it's like she might actually be soaking in some of the training I do with her. LOL

I made peach cobbler last night and oh my goodness, deliciously warm and tasty.

My condolences to you, Jean. The love that you and your family share will be the enduring legacy.

Boneyjean, I'm so sorry to hear about your aunt.  It sounds like you and your family helped each other to heal by celebrating her life by remembering all that she did.  I hope that experience brings comfort to you, and I'll keep you and your family in my thoughts.

made me literally LOL.  Kate, I hope you're suffering no ill-effects today! Smile

Today should be good.  I'm going to make homemade liver treats for the dogs, make chocolate chip cookies for the humans, and fully groom all the dogs and the rabbits.  And I'm having my husband replace the mailbox.  Which the snowplow left for dead at the end of my driveway. Tongue Tied

I'm fine, but thanks for thinking of me and glad Karen and I made you laugh. :)

I'm very sorry about your aunt, boneyjean.  I'm thinking of you.

bonneyjean, I too am sorry for your loss.

Could someone PLEASE loan me some heat?  It's 10 here today...feels like -6.  The electric heater was working it's little heart out, but could only get it up to 46 degrees in here.  We finally caved and lit the propane heater.  It's indoor safe and absolutely wonderful, but, it uses a pound of propane in a little under 6 hours.  And that stuff has gotten expensive.

If I spent another 35 bucks I could use the 20 lb tank, but, there really isn't a heck of a lot of unused floor space in here and I hate like heck to have something that big and flammable inside.  Still, would bring the cost of using it down to under a buck a pound.......we'll see.

If it could just be above freezing outside......all I'm asking for is 32 lousey degrees!  I could have running water.  My holding tanks would thaw.  I could take the bucket out of the bathroom........yeah, I know, too much information.  So, if someone has some spare heat, send it our way, PLEASE???
