I read in the bathtub. :) I love the feeling of being surrounded by hot water, totally relaxed, totally isolated from the outside world. My ultimate: reading in the bathtub, with an ice-cold fruit smoothie. Heaven!!!

I love to read in the bathtub too but I've never tried it with a fruit smoothie. That does sound heavenly.

As I said in the other thread, by the time I get done doing all things I need to do in the shower, there's not enough hot water left to read anything.

I don't know. Smile I have tried reading in the tub and wound up getting some pages wet, so I can imagine what would happen to the book in the shower.  Really, I'd rather get in, wash, get out and curl up in the recliner with my book.

That does sound like heaven!  I love a nice relaxing bath, but about 10 minutes in I start sweating, because I like reeeally hot baths, and even with the fan on it doesn't take all the humidity out.  A cold fruit smoothie just might be the solution to my problem, though, so thanks!!  I'm definitely going to try that.  And, yes, no bath is complete without reading material.

I've never read in the shower.  I read in the tub once, in high school.  I made a nice bath, bought myself a donut, lit a scented candle, and read my book as it was getting good.  When I'm at a pool or the beach I like to stand in the water waist deep and read, otherwise I get bored and too hot.  Other than that...nope, don't do it.  Would use up all the hot water and I don't need any higher bills than I already have!

I'm on the same page as all of you. What happened to all of the shower readers?! lol They've suddenly gone invisible. Big Smile

I work anywhere from 10 to 12 hours a day.  I exercise myself & the dogs for another two hours a day.  I also volunteer twice a week.  I have found that, in the shower, is the one place that I can escape everything.  I don't have work hanging over my head.  I leave my phone in the kitchen, so I don't have to deal with answering calls or emails, and the dogs are usually tired, so I don't have to deal with them.

Some days, that 20-30 minutes of shower/reading time is the only time that I have to myself.

I don't know how one woudl read while taking a shower?!  Maybe I'm confused or more likely the caffeine hasn't started up the brain cells yet...

I do read in the tub.  That is MY special time.  I soak in a bubble bath, surrounded by a gazzilion candles, sometimes with a glass of red wine, and read a book while soaking.

It's one of the few times I can turn my brain completely off and keep the world and my troublesome thoughts away.

That's a good portion of why I do as well.  Plus, I've found that when I'm reading, I relax.  It's literally the only activity I do where I'm not stressing about something.  So just adding reading onto an activity can make me relax more.

I'm also a compulsive multi-tasker.  It's very hard for me to just do one thing, and reading is an enjoyable add-on.  I don't want to calculate merchandise sales reports in the shower! Stick out tongue

And since I've been doing it for a while, I can shower either lickity split, or take my time.  My speed in the shower isn't affected by the book.  I still shower faster than DH, who takes these LONG, long showers that extend to 45 minutes or more.

And kind of like Cita said, there's nothing like a hot bath/shower and a good book.  It's a little crazy, but it works. Smile

but how do you keep the book from getting wet?

    • Gold Top Dog

I can hold the book in my left hand, and turn pages with my left pinky finger.  Then I just hold the book out in front of me, and it doesn't get hit by the spray.  I can wash everything (and shave my legs!) with my right hand, and right before I get out, I set the book down (outside the shower) to wash my left arm.

After commuting for 4.5 per day I became an avid auto book listener.  I don't read books anymore - I listen!Big Smile  Now that I work from home I MISS my auto book time so I put a CD player in my bathroom and every day I listen to my stories while showering or bathing.  I JUST LOVE IT.  To be able to relax and enjoy a good book is the best.  And I don't have to worry about getting anything wet but it does extend my shower/bath time quite a bit, I never want it to end.
