I work anywhere from 10 to 12 hours a day. I exercise myself & the dogs for another two hours a day. I also volunteer twice a week. I have found that, in the shower, is the one place that I can escape everything. I don't have work hanging over my head. I leave my phone in the kitchen, so I don't have to deal with answering calls or emails, and the dogs are usually tired, so I don't have to deal with them.
That's a good portion of why I do as well. Plus, I've found that when I'm reading, I relax. It's literally the only activity I do where I'm not stressing about something. So just adding reading onto an activity can make me relax more.
I'm also a compulsive multi-tasker. It's very hard for me to just do one thing, and reading is an enjoyable add-on. I don't want to calculate merchandise sales reports in the shower!
And since I've been doing it for a while, I can shower either lickity split, or take my time. My speed in the shower isn't affected by the book. I still shower faster than DH, who takes these LONG, long showers that extend to 45 minutes or more.
And kind of like Cita said, there's nothing like a hot bath/shower and a good book. It's a little crazy, but it works.
