    Revolution... has anyone tried this??

Has anyone tried Revolution for either their cats or dogs? We currently use Frontline, but I am considering switching to Revolution (topical treatment that protects against fleas, heartworm, and other parasites) because it protects againts a wider range of pesky critters!

I am interested to know about sucess stories with Revolution, but more importantly I would like to know if anyone has had problems or bad side effects from the product. All the websites that say great stuff about Revolution, also sell the product, so I need some opinions from people who have actually tried the product!  Thanks!

    Hi Karin,
I use this on my cats and works wonders. So far so good. They were on Frontline but it did not seem to be as affective as the Revolution is on them now.

    Advantage for the dogs.
    Advantix's for the smaller ones.

Frontline for the allergy prone dog who does not use Advantage very well.

They are happy and I am broke... lol But worth it.

I tried it and liked it. My dog had no reactions and I was pleasantly surprised not to have the "greasy spot" for a doy or so, like with Frontline+, Advantage, etc. I also use Frontline Plus/Interceptor and like that combo too. I switch back and forth every few months because I do not want to give any one chemical(s) a chance to build up or become less effective - just my "thing".

Revolution can cause reactions in some animals, as can anything else. It is a hot topic for some. I am not saying it is bad or good, just letting you know I would not hesitate to use it again. With anything, even things I have used successfully before, I always watch out for a reaction.

I will not use ProHeart 6 (if they bring it back on the market) or Hartz/Zodiac spot ons, nor will I use Program flea treatment (it did not work for me). I no longer use Advantage (had a terrible skin reaction) or regular Frontline (I like Frontline Plus better)

We use it and have had no problems.

I used it to get rid of Deuce's ear mites when we adopted him. I've never used it regularly, though.

Guess I'll be the voice of dissention here.  I tried it and found it to NOT be affective against fleas and ticks AT ALL, and Sheba came up with some sort of parasite.....

I was looking into it also.
I checked out others opinions on epinions.com - seemed like most people were happy, some were not.
I decided against it, since I know that they are doing fine
    on Intercepter & Hartgard Plus.

I think the ASPCA gave Zoe revolution right before I got her but when I went to the vet, they switched her to interceptor and frontline plus for the following month.

I agree - my dobe did the wierdest things when we tried the Zodiac stuff on him.  He started licking his bed which has a faux sheep-skin top.  Then he spun in circles.  I bathed him as soon as the "weirdness" started.  I won't put another topical on him.

Program also didn't work for me.  I won't buy it again.  We're on Sentinel for heartworms but last year I had to Advantage Wes 2x for fleas.

Thanks everyone! These were just the kinds of responses I was looking for!

Marlania: Revolution initially caught my attention because of the ear mite thing with the cats! Did it clear Deuce's up in one month or did you end up treating for several months? Our rescue kittens seem to have ear mites, which they passed to the other cats. I thought we had it beat with the drops, but apparently I did not treat long enough, because they're baaaack! [:'(]
Anyway I thought that if I treated all the cats (as well as dogs, just to make sure they don't end up with mites from the cats) with Revolution, it would finally beat everything once and for all! Then I can always switch back to Frontline later.....

I won't use Revolution simply because it is systemic.  It goes into the bloodstream thru the skin and STAYS there the whole time -- and you just *hope* it has left the system enough before you use it again.  Particularly with a pesticide I don't want it in my dog's bloodstream day after day.

Both milbemycin (Interceptor and Sentinel) and ivermectin (HeartGuard) only stay in the body ONE day.  That's all.  Bad enough to have to use something like that (and I do feel it's necessary) but I sure don't want it lingering in the dog's body.

I have used Revolution in the past, but more importantly sold a lot of it when I worked at a vets office. My overall experience with it (and those that purchased it) agree that it works fine for heartworms, but not so well for external parasites (fleas, ticks)- especially in areas where they are very heavily infested, which is the case for FL, where I live.

I currently use the Frontline Plus and Heartgard combo, but living in an apartment complex, the fleas are out of control- so I am forced to reapply the Frontline Plus at a 3.5 week maximum. I would like to find something better- but don't know that I will with the flea problem what it is.

I will have to say about the Revolution, it works very well for earmites, and in my experience, usually with one dose. My vet would even use it on rabbits for earmites- though I prefer mineral oil.

We had Talus on Revolution last year...
It worked well, but we decided to change to Heartguard...(breeders and vets advice).  Revolution stays in the system the entire time and it was tricky to give the two doses to our Dogue at the same time...(Talus hated the smell of it.)
Just do your research and see what is better for you and your dog..

I forgot to mention that I first tried Revolution because of a case of Sarcops (a type of mange). It greatly improved with one application, and was gone by second dose. The suggested protocol is three doses for sarcoptic mites, and I did do a third dose as told, but it seemed to clear everything up by dose 2. We also had ear mites at the same time (poor guy!) and these were gone after dose #1 (a few days and all was good ear-wise)

Thanks for all the great comments! It's really helpful for me to hear from people who have used this product!

I'm okay with Revolution being systemic, because Frontline which the dogs currently use is also goes into the bloodstream. We only use Frontline (or these types of products) in the summer anyway. I mostly use it for the dogs because I hate ticks. I REALLY do not want them to pick up a tick in the yard, then bring it into the house. We have never had a problem with fleas. I actually don't think I have ever heard of a dog around here with fleas!! I think that our very cold winters make it harder for fleas to survive and thrive. The ear mite thing with Revolution  just seemed like an added benefit for our summer treatment program.
