Leaner or Not?

The girls do not have inside furniture priviledges; major cuddles are done on the floor - lotsa times daily, they are not cuddle deprived, lol. When we are all outside, they both lay down right around my chair when I am at the computer or watching TV. In the kitchen & dining room they find a close spot but not both crowding our feet.

Flem is my Velcro one; she will move from room to room as I do, stay outside with me and sit as close as she can get when I am on the floor with them - not really leaning in heavily but being just right there. She also sits right in front of me and pushes her snout in my lap for back head rubbing. Wherever I sit she has a knack of being seated right there, just at the right distance for scritches when I put my hand down.

Spip is more independent and is fine as long as she knows where we are (she sometimes chooses to come back inside when we are still outside or the opposite - will occasionally woof once to check if we are still close by; this makes Flem come back to her). She is a walk-by brusher or head in the chest pusher when she wants scritches.

River is a leaner and like for me pet his butt and head, he's to big to get on me.  Brooke is a cuddler, head on chest and body on mine - she is always in someone's lap.  Hailie is just wants to be in your bed and under the covers touching all the time.

    Typical Riv lean.

    A common Brooke.

Both our Rotties were leaners...Bear and Shadow.   Rocky not as much but he likes to love on you, right on top of you!!!!!

Hot Shot is a major leaner!!   Lean til he moves you, gotta plant yourself!  LOL!  150 lbs of leaner...

Belgians want to know exactly where you are at all time.  They will chill when they understand the schedule. But if you are not supposed to be at work (or have crated them for some reason), they will be in the same room with you.  Almost always they will pick a spot under foot.  I think that is so you cant get away without them noticing.
OK I feel better now because I thought my belgians were just neurotic. :-) They truly only sleep if they can have one part of their body touching one part of my body, and god forbid I actually try to adjust my position, cough, or blink my eyes to quickly, they both jump up and look at me as though I was trying to pull a fast one on them.

The schnauzer is a big leaner, though I think it is because she thinks she is a cat. She shoulder rubs/marks like a cat does, and she also winds between your legs like a cat does. Odd dog!

my doberman mix, Darby, was a knock you over leaner....if you stood still long enough he would lean.. and if you moved he would literally fall over. if you were sitting - for instance in a chair or on the door steps- he would come up and put his face in your lap... hard to explain but.... arched neck, nose pointing towards your knees, top of his head against your stomach..... and as long as you scratched his neck and ears he would STAY in that position. if you sat down on the floor or ground he would try to squeeze every inch of his greyhound-like body into your lap. he was always extremely clingy. when he was a puppy i used to wake up with his nose in my arm pit..

Amber is a bullet.... the moment you are sitting she'll leap into your lap whether you ask her to or not... she had only met my brother twice - first time was when she was a puppy! - when he came to visit over turkey day she leaped into his lap. but then she got right down again because she knows better!

Ben is .... well... i dunno what he is. he'll watch you at a distance but the moment you sit down on his level he'll stand over you with his ribs against your chest. he doesnt want to curl up in your lap, or sit and lean. he wants to stand and lean. the first time he did it i thought he was gonna pee on me!

Sparta isnt much of a leaner, but he is a sitter. and Chloe is like a squirrel.... all over you whether you like it or not. but when you DO want to pet her she does the same thing Darby used to with the arched neck and face in your lap.

I read the responses to this thread and look at the pictures and feel sorry for the people without dogs......... they really don't know what they are missing.

You got that so right! Even sadder are the people with dogs who keep them in the backyard and never realize what they have right under their noses.

I wish I could have taken a pic of Belle this morning.  She wanted to sit next to DH in the recliner like Twister does sometimes.  Belle is not Bubby sized but she does not fit in the chair with someone else.  She perched her butt on one arm and draped her body across his chest and rested her head contentedly on the other arm of the chair.  I almost fell off the treadmill watching her get herself comfy. LOL
