Leaner or Not?

    Leaner or Not?

I know that I don't have to ask the Dane or Dobe owners whether their dogs lean on them or not LOL, but I'm curious about others.  Do you have a velcro dog that wants to be ON you, or a dog that likes to keep an eye on you from a distance?

I used to have a spaniel/golden/lordknows mix called "Old Mike tha Dog" (cos I had a human friend "Mike";) and I swear, I used to threaten to just re-name him "I-Lean" (girly sounding or not!).  One time I literally caught him "leaning" against the sofa sound alseep in a "sit".

Billy doesn't lean .. he is MOST poilite, but he is "near" me 24/7 when I'm home.  Not 'touching' but close.  He wouldn't want to 'annoy' me by touching -- no sirreeeee!

Tink?  IT'S A PUG THING!!  She wants to be "on" somebuddy ****ALL**** the time.  She'll back up to whoever happens to be close (man, woman or dog) and "sit" on them.  Doesn't matter what part of the body she sits on ... nope ... just gotta be ON.  Last night she was angling in front of me and Luna was asleep behind her and she literally sat ON Luna's head.  Luna never woke up but David and I very nearly had apoplelxy just watching it.

If David is on his side lying on the futon she will jump up "on" his side and like trying to walk a tightrope she will attempt to be "on" him and "sit" balanced on his side.  It is hysterical.  But then she will decide to leap onto something else and try to use him as a springboard!

When she's up in my arms (you guys prolly got it figure I'm not only a 'big lady' but big-busted to boot, right?) she "climbs" me to sit on ... er ... well, what SHE considers to be the highest "level" and softest part of me -- she NEARLY sits "on" my shoulder but it's really more my bust ... so as she slides down off my shoulder she will wind up on my 'shelf'.  Never sit just 'on' when you can climb up where you can SEE stuff!!

Pugs tend to not like to be restrained (boy is THAT an understatement) and it really does seem to be a breed thing -- so rather than be in my arms she wants to be 'up on' me.  *sigh*

I keep trying to teach her to ride on my shoulder (front feet in front and back feet in back) but it's anti-the-pug-sit-on-rule I guess.  Prissy used to ride like that easily.

Luna isn't obsessed at all about it -- but she sure does like to lie in the crook of David's knees while they're asleep.  It IS the popular dog place to lie, around here *grin*

Maze is both. Lol. She LOVES to lean when you're sitting onthe couch or if you've stopped walking outside to speak to someone. She'll lean on my legs. And she's just as content to watch from a distance. Specially if I'm doing the dishes or cooking (not begging lol) She'll lay on the carpet that's in there and just watch me putter.

Sandy... Well Sandy is a terrier on crack at the moment. Lol. She loves to be in your lap thou when she's not terroizing Maze. Not much of a leaner.

And when I first read the title, I thought it said "LeaRner or not" Lol

Belle is the biggest leaner I have ever owned. It's very funny to DH and I since we have never owned a leaner before. She's probably Lab mix, maybe with Dane? LOL  Rex keeps a close eye from afar, so to speak,  Twister is within a few feet of me most of the time.  He doesn't seem to watch me but I know he does because he is opening his eyes before I complete the thought to get up. LOL

I have a Leaner!  Smile  Never had a leaner before, so I found it a bit disconcerting at first... irritating even.  Now I like it.  It's adorable.  Even Will knows which dog he is allowed to "hug ahhhh" with, because SHE likes it Smile

Ena, the Chinese Crested, is a leaner. She heels like a Shepherd. Her shoulder touches my leg, and her nose is straight up. I didn't intentionally teach that, but it happened. It's lovely. She leans when she sits, and she likes to lay around my neck (I'll never need a mink, while I have my Ena!). She's a touchy, feely, lovey, dovey dog. Training her is great! It's all love and hugs and cookies.

Emma is velcro, but in a different kind of way. She wants to be touching me, at home, but if we're out, she's on guard. She's near me, but she's watching our surroundings.

    I have two "leaners."

Bevo is a knock you over, I need to be in your lap, kind of leaner.  He leans on me constantly.  He wants to be in constant contact with me.  He "sits" (backs up to the couch & rests his butt on it) on the couch next to me, & if invited, he will lay, with his head in my lap, on the couch next to me.  He sleeps at my feet at night.  Always with his head rested on my feet or legs.  Oh the joys of living with a Dobe! Big Smile

Chyna leans as well, but not to the extreme that Bevo does.  She will lean against me to mooch attention when we are out in public.  She always sleeps on my feet when I am sitting on the couch.

Brinxx, Shooter, & Schatzi are content to keep an eye on me from a distance.

Jack wants to be on his humans at all times.  He leans, sits/lays on feet, lays on us when we sit down etc....

Sally will occasionally get cuddly, but mostly she is a distance, or at least a not-touching-too-much dog.

When riding in the car, Shadow will sit with his back 3/4 to me so that I can ruffle his fur. On the coach, he will lay halfway on me or along side my leg. Other times, he will lay his head against DW's leg. Other times, he will lay across me while I am here in this forum. Imagine trying to type with half a big dog laying across your right arm. Other times, he will lay belly up with his head on my left shoulder. Other times, when he thinks something good is going to happen, he will walk in such a tight heel that he sometimes steps on my foot. See what happens when you try to do a walking touch some years ago?

Kenya and Nikon are "velcro" dogs, being GSDs, but they aren't snuggly.  Kenya will lie next to me on the couch or bed, and both dogs want to be in the same room (but have been trained to be calm in a crate no matter where I am).

Coke is the cuddle bug!  Whenever someone comes in the door he greets them with insane butt wiggling and then pushes his butt into people.  He also like to lie ON me in bed or sit on my lap.

Gingerbread wants to be in the same room as me, but he's not much of a lap sitter or anything. He's usually relaxing on the couch or, like right now, laying in his dog bed.

Peanut is the velcro type, but he's a puppy so he's busy like a little bumble bee. When he settles down he wants to be right on top of you. Right now he just curled up on my lap. :)

Ohhhh yah...Apollo leans on me, sits on me, will follow me room to room (bathroom included!), will watch me from the window if he's inside and I'm out. Right now he's laying at me feet as I type. 5mins ago I went to get a cup of coffee and he went with me downstairs, watched me make my coffee, and came right back up with me.

He's also known to ride shotgun in my truck (harness and restraint included), he doesn't like being in the back alone. I trust him off leash 100%, he never leaves.

Oh man I miss my leaner. Bubblegum was a major leaner...but so far Gibson is not. He will sit on you every chance he gets..... if you get on the floor watch your head becasue he loves to sit on that.........but Bubby would lean on you and almost knock you over if you stood still for a second, but Gibson has never done that yet.   HHHmmmm....wonder if he will.

But....here is a couple pictures of what he does all the time.

My dogs don't lean on me while we are standing around. However, if they could crawl under my skin to get closer to me any other time, they would. They don't lay next to me, they lay on me. Usually all 3 at once! They all keep an eye on me no matter where we are.

Sam will lean on me in a sit/heel sometimes. When I'm sitting he is ALL over me. He WILL climb into my lab, or put both his front paws/legs and head into my lap while his but is still in ;sit;. LOL!
