I used to have a spaniel/golden/lordknows mix called "Old Mike tha Dog" (cos I had a human friend "Mike";) and I swear, I used to threaten to just re-name him "I-Lean" (girly sounding or not!). One time I literally caught him "leaning" against the sofa sound alseep in a "sit".
Billy doesn't lean .. he is MOST poilite, but he is "near" me 24/7 when I'm home. Not 'touching' but close. He wouldn't want to 'annoy' me by touching -- no sirreeeee!
Tink? IT'S A PUG THING!! She wants to be "on" somebuddy ****ALL**** the time. She'll back up to whoever happens to be close (man, woman or dog) and "sit" on them. Doesn't matter what part of the body she sits on ... nope ... just gotta be ON. Last night she was angling in front of me and Luna was asleep behind her and she literally sat ON Luna's head. Luna never woke up but David and I very nearly had apoplelxy just watching it.
If David is on his side lying on the futon she will jump up "on" his side and like trying to walk a tightrope she will attempt to be "on" him and "sit" balanced on his side. It is hysterical. But then she will decide to leap onto something else and try to use him as a springboard!
When she's up in my arms (you guys prolly got it figure I'm not only a 'big lady' but big-busted to boot, right?) she "climbs" me to sit on ... er ... well, what SHE considers to be the highest "level" and softest part of me -- she NEARLY sits "on" my shoulder but it's really more my bust ... so as she slides down off my shoulder she will wind up on my 'shelf'. Never sit just 'on' when you can climb up where you can SEE stuff!!
Pugs tend to not like to be restrained (boy is THAT an understatement) and it really does seem to be a breed thing -- so rather than be in my arms she wants to be 'up on' me. *sigh*
I keep trying to teach her to ride on my shoulder (front feet in front and back feet in back) but it's anti-the-pug-sit-on-rule I guess. Prissy used to ride like that easily.
Luna isn't obsessed at all about it -- but she sure does like to lie in the crook of David's knees while they're asleep. It IS the popular dog place to lie, around here *grin*
