    prayers needed for Bok

Bok is myy chicken, my favorite chicken. I hand raised her & she's the sweetest chicken I've ever met.  Today my cousin brought over his new dog, a border collie.  We played frisbee in the field for over an hour.  I had noticed that the chickens had wandered out to the field.  I immediately got my cousin to leash his dog.  She had shown signs of wanting to chase the chickens early while on the leash.  He got her on the leash.  I ushered the chickens back into my yard.  I turned around & my cousin pretty much immediatly let his dog off leash. She circled around & went straight for the gate & I was on her heels, I knew immediatly what was going on.  She managed to get ahold of bok & I was on top of her seconds afterwards.  But it was enough time to do some damage.

I know it sounds crazy but I love this chicken. I looked her over & thought she was ok.  But then I lifted her wing & saw a very large tear in her skin & i could see her muscles............which sent me immediatly into tears. If it was any other chicken I wouldn't be so upset. But this is my bok.  I scooped her up & ran inside & told my BF.  we got in the truck & took her to the 24hr vet.

After two hours of waiting theyu finally looked at her.  They're going to try to sew her up. people there probably thought I was nuts, but there were a few people that looked @ her & remarked on how calm & docile she was. She literally sat next to me & my BF on the bench in the waiting room. Randomly 'cooing' like she usually does.

We have to go pick her up in a little bit.  I hope that its a success.  I'm not mad at the dog. i'm more mad at myself for not putting the chickens up & taking a chance, even thought we were in a different area. And so happy that my dogs dont even think about bothering the chickens.

I called my best friend right when i got home, Bok is her favorite chicken too, she started crying also.  I know it seems impossible to love such a 'basic' animal to some people, but Bok is a special chicken.

    Please send prayers for Bok.

I dont think your nuts for loving a chicken. I had chickens as pets growing up. I would have chickens now but JJ says no way. The dogs are all Im gonna get away with at the moment.

I had a silky chicken once that got attacked by the neighbors dogs. I got her away from them in time. But she had a cut in her neck where you could see her neck bones and meat. Ick!  We didnt take her to the vet because well she was just a chicken to my parents. She healed up though and lived until a fox got a hold of her a couple years later.

Bok get better!! She's so pretty!

My prayer and thoughts are going you(and Bok's) way!!

I understand - I had a pet duck named Star, she followed me around all the time, I loved her - but I think a fox got her one night.

Most definitely good thots and prayers for Bok!

Now I must tell you a little story!  There is a place in Florida named for a man "Edward Bok" -- Bok Tower Gardens.  It's in Lake Wales, just south of Orlando.  It is one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Edward Bok had a saying "Make the world a better place for you having been in in it."

It sounds to me like Bok is a chick worthy of the name Bok.  It sounds to me like she's made YOUR world better, and I would bet that the people who saw you at the e-vet with her also saw what a quiet, gentle creature she was and she made THEIR lives better (who couldn't hide a smile at such a thing?)

    Feel better Bok!!!

    that almost made me cry!!

Bok is home now. I felt so relieved when we found out that everything went smoothly.  She's all stitched up & now resting in a dog crate for the evening.  I'm so happy that she made it through this part!!  she's going to be on antibiotics for the next 7 days& I probably wont take her back out into the coop until she's healed.  the stitches are a little tight & the last thing I want is her jumping up or down & tearing the stitches or her skin.

Heres Bok in the kennel :) she's eating well, thats a good sign

Best wishes for Bok and no your not weird for loving your chicken.  I had a pet duck named Elvis when I was kid and I loved him with all my heart and he was less "basic" than people would think.  He loved me, being with me and he followed me everywhere.  When I went on vacation my parents told me the duck was sick - he missed me.  I understand that love very well.  Best wishes for bok.

PS:  Bok is a beautiful chick.

she is a lovely fowl actually. I can easily see your attachment to her. Hell I will bawl like a baby when my Mantis goes no doubt. I hope your Bok recovers fully and is good as new!

Glad to hear she is recovering.  I think it's pretty awesome that you took her to the vet.

She's a lovely girl. I love chickens, and they do have wonderful personalities!  If it helps, my boss has chickens and one was grabbed by one of her dogs, leading to a tear on her chest area. She was stitched up and healed just fine. She's still doing wellSmile
