liSten yous guys my ma isn't giving me no tweats until she knows what is 'going on'.  I tell you what is going on - torture! So i cud come to your house if you gots tweats?

    xo,

    bUgsy

    Bugsy,

You can come to MY house.  Notice, I did say MY house, cuz  I just let my humans live here. Wink  Mom withholds treats from us too.  Sometimes, she even tries to convince us that dog food is treats.  The dumb dachshunds, & silly Brinxx fall for it, but I just give her a dirty look & threaten to kick her out of MY house.

If your mom says that you can't have treats right now, then my mom would probably say the same.  If you still wanna come, even though you won't get treats, you can.  We can go for a hike, & I know a really good swimming spot.

    Love,

    Bevo

Karen, I hope everything is OK with you and Bugsy, I just saw this and I'll be thinking about you guys a lot.

Give Bugsy a kiss from me...

Hoping for a good pee analysis for the Bugs. Belly scritches to him (since no tweats) and hugs to you, Karen.

Well I had to call the vet and they looked the results up on the computer, the only thing that was off in his urine was the specific gravity test which was slightly under normal - he said he was fine with that.

We need to get him to drink a lot more and we will do another urinalysis and CBC on the same day to check that out

Thyroid panel was not available yet.

Again you are all awesome, you have given me a wonderful feeling of friendship and warmth. THANK YOU

BTW the naughty boy is taking presents and cards from under the tree and prancing around with them Angel

Thanks Karen for the update.  Bugsy being naughty is a very good sign.  Wink

bUgsy...drink drink drink.  I hear chicken broth is yummy...maybe diluted a bit.

You know the thing is he has always only had a few drinks a day - they are generally BIG sloppy drinks - but only 2-3 a day.  I have tried broth in his water before and then he won't touch it - clearly I could be poisoning him Stick out tongue

Karen, if it makes you feel any better, Ben is like that.  During hot weather (or as hot as it gets here LOL) he'll have little drinks more often during the day, but right now he only has 2-3 big drinks daily - luckily he schedules them so they're not really near his feeding times and thus I don't panic about bloat.

How about adding ice cubes or chips to the water.  I wonder if that would intice more drinking?

I kind of think it isn't too abnormal and yes in the summer or when he has playdates he drinks oodles and oodles.   I'm hopeful that it is just an anomaly and that these values don't really indicate anything.  I guess what the vet is seeing is a potential problem that when looking at both the urine and blood is NOT eliminated and NOT conclusive.  He just feels that diluting the urine can only be positive.

CoBuHe i think we will be trying a variety of things to encourage him to drink - we have tried ice in the past, I also toss his treats in his bowl so he has to fish them out.  Sometimes this will get him to drink afterwards. I should probably write a separate post to get some additional ideas

I forgot to add - I don't know if it is just marketing or not LOL but I have heard anecdotal evidence that some dogs really do prefer drinking from a moving water source, one of those doggy water fountain things.  If that's true of Bugs (does he like drinking from hoses and such?) that might entice him to take in a bit more water.

It sounds like Bugsy is going to be okay and that's really good news. Thinking good thoughts. And blessings on you for being such an attentive and on-the-spot human for taking care of him.

Karen, sometimes they recheck the blood and urine and everything is fine.  So, don't worry too much.  I've got a feeling he's fine and like you said this was just an anomaly.

Is Bugsy able to eat canned food?  That adds a lot of moisture too.
