Some people should NOT have dogs...*UPDATE*

This is so sad and frustrating on so many levels. It really needs to stop... people like that just don't change. It's cultural and infuriating. The dog would be better off dead than living in hell every day,. either freezing it's ass of or being yelled at constantly!!!! UGH, this makes me so mad!! He is such a cutie.... I hope there is a good outcome for him....

Just an update.. They still have him, of course, but he hasnt been tied outside at all(by himself). He broke the tie out, so now he lives on a chain 24/7 pretty much. Hes not chained outside, but he is chained inside. The guy told me he broke the cage again so they keep him chained to the wall at night so he cant chew stuff. His excuse for using a chain was that he would chew all the ropes.

So last weekend their kids came over (which they do pretty much every day when its nice out) This was the first time they have been over since last summer. Here's some pics of the kids+choko. I cant believe their parents let him walk this dog over on that huge chain. It took them like 10 minutes just to walk across the yard to my house with him because they kept falling/tripping on the chain.

The only time hes been chained outside is when they are outside too usualyl working on their car or somthing. And hes chained to a poll in the middle of their yard.

    Biting my tongue right now................

He seems nice and like he really likes the kids.  But, it's not appropriate for him to be tied out on a choke collar.  And, he's a strong dog for two little girls to be handling alone.  Just my opinion.

He is VERY good with the kids. He chases after them sometimes but hes careful not to run into them and doesnt play rough with them at all.  But you cant really blame him for pulling. The oldest kid is 6, the other is 4 i think, and the baby is like 1-2ish? i think. why would you trust that young of kids walking a big strong dog on a huge chain? How stupid can these people be?? Grrr... Even for me, that chain is really heavy. They lost the choke collar that day. The next day they came over again, this time he just had the chain attached to his neck with a lock.

Today they had a bunch of people over and the kids were playing in the backyard and choko was running around with them (not chained) about 10 mins later i saw them running after him in the field behind my house. They got him back eventually and put him back on the chain. Then about 20 mins later, one of the kids comes over and asks if i have choko. And i didnt, i hadnt even seen him come this direction. So i go with her to look for him, and hes standing in front of my house, right on the side of the road, looking at a cat across the street on someones porch. Lucky i had Bailey with me cause when he saw his big brother he came running back to us. GRRR. this is very frustrating....

grrr.. i really do hate these people.

Last night at about 7pm.. choko was running around on the sidewalk by himself. He had been chained outside all day, and the people left earlier so they just left him there. I went out and caught him, and brought him back over to the neighbors. They wernt home, so i went over to his chain to tie him again. What do you know... no water. Not even an empty bowl.. nothing. The way they have him tied up is they have a big wire wrapped around a tree, and then they attached the end of the chain to the wire. They use a tiny little leash (like chihuahua sized) and clip the leash to the end of the chain, and to his choke collar. so hes dragging around a huge chain attached by this tiny little clip. Its no wonder he was running loose. The little clip thing just snapped. So i brought him back over to my house.. And oh my dog... we pulled 22 ticks off him. Its not surprising cause the have him tied up right next to a ton of bushes and behind it all like 30 feet away there is a swamp. He is SO nasty. I gave him a bath... and omg i think he turned a different color. The bottom of our tub.. was BLACK after we rinsed im. it was disgusting. His neck has red bumps all over it from the chain rubbing it all the time. He also has a ton of lik little red marks kinda ovaly all on the inside of his ears and on his belly.. ringworm maybe? ive never seen it but its the only thing i could think of. it also could be from being caught in the bushes all the time and getting stabbed by throns. He was stuck in a thorn bush with his chain all stuck around the tree for almost 3 hours before they did anything about it (i would have helped him before, but i noticed him there before we left and when we came back a couple hours later he was stuck in the same exact spot still. a little after we got back was when they "noticed" or maybe it was just when they decided to care)
So right now we're at a friends house with Bailey and Choko. I guess we're kind of holding him hostage. They dont know we have him, at least not yet. Right now hes laying on my feet under the computer.. snoring.
Im not really sure what to do. We really dont want to just bring him back cause its the same story they wont care what we tell them. The pound isnt open on sundays... i tried calling someone i know that works with ct animal rescue but she didnt answer so i left a message.
ahh poor choko... at least he had one good night. he got a spa treatment and him and bailey slept next to me on the bed all night.

If his neck has bumps on it from the chain, he has no water, and all those ticks, then I say take him to the shelter - three counties away, so the jerks will never find him.  Problem is, few Pits get adopted, more get euthanized.  Maybe you could try Pittie rescue???

    • Gold Top Dog

I hope you got photos of all this stuff....

I just wanted to commend you for all you've done for this dog. While he may have run into poor luck by being bought by this family, he is fortunate to have someone as kindhearted as yourself to look out for him. Good job, and good luck!  Yes

Thats what i wanted to do. The issue with that is the pretty much every shelter around here is closed on the weekends unless you have an apointment. Believe me i checked. They all say to call durring the week to make a weekend apointment if you want to see a dog or somthing.

BUT there is some good news. Obviously i couldnt hold him hostage forever... it would be pretty hard to hide him living nextdoor to them. So when they called asking if we had him i told her yea and told her what happend that was in the road again and that ill walk him over. Usually i try to be "nice" about it and not sound like a jerk but i gave them hell when they came outside to get him. I told her everything we did and how many ticks he had and how disgusting he was, and she was acting like i was lying or somthing. She said "oh but hes only been outisde a couple days now how could he have that many ticks?" Uh.. ok there is a swamp like 20-30 feet away from where he is. swamp=bugs. And hes always stuck in the bushes.. thats where ticks hang out. DUH. I showed her his neck and all the red bumps and she said "oh is that why it was all black there" noo...... it was black cause hes was disgustingly filthy.. the black covered the red bumps that were from the chain rubbing on his neck.
Aparently something made him think a tiny bit cause the wife just came back from the store with a regular buckle collar and i cant tell what hes tied on it looks like a really long regular leash its hard to tell from far away but its not the chain anymore so, yay Big Smile its no major achievement but at least its a step in the right direction.

Oh my dog. YAY im so happy. After me b****ing at them for the millionth time to take care of their dog they seem to have taken the hint. They just finished building a fence around their backyard. Big Smile Of course the whole time they were building the fence (like 5 days ish) poor Choko was chained to the back of their truck just sitting in the drive way, which drove me nuts so i took him and Bailey for as many walks as possible. Most of it is 6foot but in the front its like 4 or 5. But hes not much of a jumper anyways, or at least not yet. And guess what? They got him a dog house too! They said they found it on the side of the road.. it had holes in the side and the roof was falling off but they fixed it up and painted it. They still had a choker on him(the regular one they got just kind of disapeared.) so i explained again why it is not a good idea to leave a choker on a dog off leash espescailly when they are by themselves. So gave him Baileys old collar. There was nothing wrong with it he just never wore it so i gave it to them. I cant make them care about him but at least his life is better now and he wont be choking himself on the chain anymore.

You can see the dog house in the top left

    happy choko

Yeah, for Choko!  Good for you for continuing to "remind" these people that Choko needed better living conditions.  Yes  It's not perfect but it's world's better than before.  I am going through a very similar situation with a neighbor.

    • Gold Top Dog

You are a rockstar for your persistence!  The sqeaky wheel gets the oil and you're proof of that.  Now he'll have a yard to run around in and a cute little house to get out of the elements.  Look at that happy mug!

    • Gold Top Dog

     this whole situation scares me.....

i mean i'm glad he's a sweet boy, good with the kids and other dogs, but it keeps playing over and over in my mind how things could go wrong and how much suffering would be involved as a result..
