Some people should NOT have dogs...*UPDATE*

    Spazzy
I was also thinking... that i shouldnt bring him to my towns shelter. Where i live, its like right near the boarder between 2 towns. If you continue driving up my street for like 1 mile, you're in a different town. Close enough that if he got loose, its very possible he could be found in the other town. I dont think they would look in the other shelter.. That probably sounds bad but i really dont want these people to get the dog back...

Sounds like a great idea to me! Good luck.

Well they just tied up the dog, and i saw both of them leave. Im going to call the pound now and see if they are open. Tomarrow is my first day back to school from vacation, so i cant just hide him overnnight. Either they have to come pick him up or my dad might bring him after work, but i have to see if they are open first... I hope they are...

As much as I feel for this dog....just be aware that "helping" him escape and taking him to the pound (in another town esp.) is still legally stealing, and be prepared for what goes with that if it comes out that you took him....:(  There is no way you can take him on a day he actually does escape?

    • Gold Top Dog

I really wouldnt care if i did have to "steal" him. These people are idiots, they wouldnt catch on anyways.  But, i guess choko decided he's had enough, because i didnt have to "help" him escape at all. After they left i saw him biting the rope and playing with it (like he always does) and about a hour after, he was running loose in my yard. And how sad... no collar. We called the guy at the pound, and he knows us and the situation with the neighbors. He had a docter apointment he was going to when we called.. and he wasnt going to be back until late. We said we could keep him overnight and he could pick him up in the morning, and so thats what we did. The neighbors got back at around 9pm. And he was tied up outside since at least 1(thats when i saw him, but he could have been out before that). So that would be 8 hours, without water. Plus its FREEZING outside, and we were supose to have a storm. After i put choko inside i went over and checked their yard, no water. When we told them last time we were going to call the pound if they didnt get him shelter, i dont think they really got the whole idea of a shelter. They have a tiny tiny shed in their backyard, and they opend the door to it (its like 5x5 ft) I went to see it and it was so full of crap, there wasnt a big enough space for him to fit his whole body in there, or even lay down. The only clear space is where the door is opened and its like maybe 2ft wide, if that.

So anyways... choko had a sleep over. The people always say he chews everything he gets and runs around and destroys stuff. Yea well... he was great. He didnt chew a thing. I gave them a little play time in the field, and after that he went to sleep. My plan was for bailey to stay with me on the bed and choko to sleep on the dog bed on the floor. And of course that didnt happen. But hes just too cute... i couldnt kick him off. He snores, REALLY loud, but other than that, he was great. It was so sad seeing him getting taken to the pound this morning (it turns out i dont have school anyways because of the storm, so it worked out) but i know its for the best. The guy said that the law here is that they have to advertise dogs brought in as strays for 1 day in the newspaper, and after 7 days they do up for adoption. He knows the situation, if they come to claim him they are deffinetly getting a fine. He said he doesnt really know how it would work if we adopted him... He said he doesnt know if they could legaly get him back, even if i adopted him.. Hes going to call us and let us know whats going on. So we'll just have to see how it goes i guess.

    • Gold Top Dog

That is great news!  I hope you get to adopt him, doesn't sound like they are willing to pay a fine if they won't even provide basic care.  Idiots.  He probably thought he was in doggy heaven last night.  LOL   You're a sweetheart.

    • Gold Top Dog

I'd just waych your back for a while......neighbors with a grudge can be downright mean. But, seeing as you 'didnt' help him escape, and there is a very real chance of him going to another town on his own(i've had one dog turn up 15 miles away, and he'd only been 'lost' for a day), they may not check the other town's shelter if there as brain-dead as they seem. and, if they do, chances are that they wont want to pay a fine.

If he went into a shelter as a stray, and you adopt him after the stray holding time, he's leagally yours, and I'm fairly sure they couldnt get him back.

    Glad you could help him!!!

Seriously, for your safety and the dogs, just be carefull about all this.....

    • Gold Top Dog

I hope they dont even look in the shelter. Its hard to say, you never know what those people are going to do.

LOL i think he was in doggy heaven last night. We watched eight below and the until they were both snoring. At first Bailey was a little upset, because choko was in "his" spot, but he got over it lol.

The people actually came over knocking on our door. When we answered the guy just said "choko?" ... Like he was expecting us to have him. We had to lie...  "Nope, sorry havent seen him" but it was for the best. The ACO said he would say he picked him up on the road if they ask who called/brought him in. Just so they dont get really pissed at us. So if they do get him back... and can still take him for walks and runs at the park with Bailey.

Well, theres good news and bad news. Bad new first, they did get him back. The kids FREAKED when they found out, i could hear them screaming for him from inside. The guy called the cops to see if they picked up any dogs and the cops called the pound. The pound cant just hold him hostage... even though i'd like them too. The next day Mark (the ACO guy) called them and they went to get him. Mark said the guy acted like a complete a$$. He acted like it was no big deal, and like the pound was wrong for taking him. Mark said the guy told him that he just got the dog all new collars and leashes so he doesnt know how he got out... The good news.... Ok, well, when Mark paid them a little visit.. the new leashes and collars seemed to have gone missing... He said they got a fine, i dont know how much $$ it was. When we talked to Mark he said he was making a report on these people and he is going to be visiting them weekly. He told them they have to get him an actual dog house, and they need to have water out there for him. Mark said if we see him running loose at all, just call him and he will come pick him up again. And he said for us to watch for him outside, and to see if they get a dog house and if he is outside without water. If he is he will come straight over so he can catch them "in the act" sorta. He said he has to actually see the dog outside without it for him to be able to fine them for it.  So, i dont think ill be able to get him, at least not for a while Im hoping after a while they will get sick of the fines... of the dog will just drive them insane and they will give him to me. But at least they got fined. and hopfully it will happen again.

    • Gold Top Dog

That's mostly good news, because now someone with authority is actually looking out for the dog. I'm glad to hear that! Hopefully after some more fines and maybe animal cruelty charges, these people will give up owning dogs.

    • Gold Top Dog

I'm glad he had to pay a fine and will now face some official scrutiny.  Ask the AC guy if a time/date stamped picture of the dog with no shelter or water etc. would be of any value. You have done all you can at this point, other than keeping an eye out.  So good to have this AC guy involved and concerned.

Just giving a little update on the pup. They are never outside(snow, cold), so i dont see them much at all. And i dont walk as much so i havent gone over there lately, but he hasnt been tied outside at all. They havent gotten him a dog house, so i dont know if its because they dont want to spend the money on it, or if they actually care about their dog now. And they actually got him a new leash, they dont walk him on a rope anymore. I only see him if i happen to be outside with bailey and he brings him outside. I always hear them every morning screaming at him if im outside. And if they open the door they have to fight him off to keep him in. I think its pretty funny to watch lol. They dont do any sort of activitys with him, he walks out onto the porch, the dog walks onto the grass to do his buisness, and then they go back inside. So i can only imagin all the things hes destroyed and chewed up. He'll always have a place available here if they decide they dont want him anymore, but im happy for now that at least hes not outside freezin his tail off anymore. Im sure things will change in spring. Last spring/summer, he was over here in my yard off leash, litteraly every day. Just becauase they are going in and out all the time, and leave the door open. Hes been sitting in my yard chewing on one of baileys bones for over 2 hours, and they didnt even know he was gone when i brought him back over...

    • Gold Top Dog

Well, i guess i spoke, er.. typed, too soon. This morning i woke up this morning early because of a dog barking. I knew instantly it was him, i know his bark. Its more like a frustrated cry than a bark. I took Bailey outside and there he was. Tied up outside... again. I dont know how he was tied (on a choke collar, rope..) they were home so i couldnt go over to see. Its not too cold right now, but its been raining hard all morning. And from what i could see, i didnt see a dog house. And the shed that was his "shelter" before was closed, and he was clawing and digging at the door to get in. I really thought these people finally started to care about him.. i guess i was wrong. The pound is closed today, but we're calling tomarrow as soon as they open.

That's really a shame, it looked like they were going to keep on doing the right thing for this dog or at least the bare minimum, like shelter from the elements.   All you can do is give AC a call tomorrow.  Maybe take a pic if the rain lets up enough, to show the AC guy.

    • Gold Top Dog

I hope they can finally resolve this tomorrow.  This poor guy has been living like this for long enough.

    • Gold Top Dog

It's discouraging because this is how animals develop dangerous habits and emotional problems that make it harder for them to have happy healthy lives as adults Sad
