    Need Quick Help Please!

DH and I are wondering whether or not to bring Bailet to the emergency room.

I dont know if they are related but I ran a bunch of eerands today and got back and there was slimy poo on the rug.. cleaned it up didnt think much of it... then gave her a doggie bakery treat I got at the natural dog food store while I was getting food and stuff.

About 10 minutes later she SPEWED the thing out and then continued to throw up about 7 more times within say 30 minutes... then went outside and had EXPLOSIVE diharrea and then went to sleep.  I called my vet at home to see if I should take her to the emergency room she said to just wait if I can cause they charge too much but def take her if I need to... I sked what justifies taking her and she said her attitude more than anything.  Well, shes just been sleeping.

I did wake her up bring her outside to see what happened and she ate some grass... came in drank water and ran to look out the window with Minnie and

    sorry...

and was barking at a dog outside... then went to our bed to sleep which she never does unless we are in there so I went to take her temperature and it was 99.2.  Is this normal???  What should I do??

I just dont know what justifies an emergency I guess... she doesnt look like shes gonna die or anything Im just incredibly paranoid after what happened to Kayla.   What do yall think???

According to your first post, you came home to slimy #2. Then, the treat came back up for a vote. So, I think it probably wasn't the treat. Either she ate too much grass or she has an infection. But she might be okay until morning, when you can get her to the vet. 24 hour emergency vet hospitals are expensive. You could always take here there during the night if it is necessary. She might have just eaten something that didn't quite agree.

Sorry-- my login crapped out and it took me a bit longer.

If she is more lethargic than normal that's worrisome.  What you've described could be anything from parasites to pancreatitis.  No blood in the poop or vomit right?

But if she went to the window to bark, that is a GOOD sign.

I tend to agree with Ron -- it's better to see your OWN vet if possible.  It's not just the expense, it's the vet who knows *your* dog.

Thanks for getting back to me Ron

I know thats what I cant decide... I think I would feel better knowing it was the treat and maybe she just had to get it out... but I dont know...

If its not the treat it would be a very big coincidence because I was gone most of the day and nothing (but the slimy poo) until I got back and right after I gave her that thing, she didnt go outside after I came home b/c it was pouring rain and she wouldnt.  So I would be convinced it was the treat if it werent for the slimy poop.  Which also confuses me b/c I thought that was all better, before today, well for the last few days, shes had great looking poops.

    thanks callie...

I got very excited when she was barking but now shes sleeping but she may be doing that anyway...

The vets main concern would be parvo she said... but I dont think she would have drank water if it were parvo right?  And she would have fever?

And remember -- being "paranoid" isn't stupid -- not at all.  So if you get worried take her -- just plain "because".  They can run a fecal in a heartbeat.

Do one thing for me tho.  Grab the dog and pull up the upper lip -- do the gums look nice and pink (like yours?)

Take the tip of your index finger and press in on the gum pretty hard and count to 5.  Release and see how long it takes the gum to go back pink again.  IF it takes a bit longer than it should OR if the gums are pale, THAT is grounds enough to get to the vet NOW.

I'll agree with Callie on this. A) I'm not an expert B) Can't diagnose over the net, C) "Just Because" You will worry yourself into a knot. If you've got the money, go. It may be nothing and you will feel better knowing, either way.

Okay her gums are pink like mine... or pinker and I pushed and they turned back pink almost immediately.. that good?  She didnt even open her eyes while I was doing this... but then again I always fool with her while she sleeps and she never does pay me any attention...

I don't really know much, but... if the dog threw up the treat immediately, nothing from it really would have stayed in her system, right? Or affected her THAT quickly.  I think whatever was bothering her was already bothering her prior to the treat.  But again, I have little to no knowledge on this stuff.

    I dont know much either...

is sleeping a lot bad?  like if she just sleeps the rest of the night would that in itself be reason to bring her in?  should i feed her dinner?

The gum thing is a great way to tell if they're sick. since their pink I wouldn't worry too much, but thats me.

It could be worms, this is a new pup right?  When I got Tasha they told me she'd been wormed but she had hookworms anyway.  Explosive, nasty diarrhea.  Gross stuff...  So take a fecal with you when you go if she's still having diarrhea.

Amy any word on Bailey?  Is she ok?  Did you go to the vet?

    Good thoughts for you guys.
