Have you picked out a name for your dog?: We’re leaning toward Hope, but might consider Sarah or Hillary if we get a bitch

Come on now...the most fitting name for their new shelter dog will be "Change"  LOL

    Thanks for the chuckle.

Just watched the first Press Conference in which the girls dog was brought up.   He mentioned that one of the girls has alergies so it will be important in their decision as to what kind of dog to get.  He said "Hypo allergetic"  He also mentioned he would like it to be a Shelter Dog.  He referred to himself as a "Mutt" comparing to the type dog often found at a shelter.   I got a good laugh at his stressing the importance of that decision.

Yeah, he said that he has more response on the dog issue than anything else.Big Smile  I think they will end up buying from a breeder, they need something specific and they want a puppy.   I beleive what ever his decision will be it will be thought out and all considerations will be made.  What ever they decide I know that pup will have a good life and be loved.

I would never judge anyone from purchasing a dog from a breeder and the Obama's are intitle, just like everyone else, to make that same choice. I hope they don't get a lot of grief if that is what they decide to do.

ME TOO!  Love that picture so much.  But we are off topic and someone may be lurking who does not like that sort of thing.LOL

The topic is Obama rescue dog and I hope he can get a shelter dog but the allergy issue may preclude that unfortunately. I wish we could get the Obama's on the forum.  Hmm

Now that would be cool!   I am sure there would be lots of allergy advise on the forum and there may be more options open than they realize!

Buster, oh my gosh, that's hilarious.  "Yes we can" rofl

    • Gold Top Dog

Buster, may I cross post that with credit?  Puh-lease?  With a cherry on top?

Please don't take this as partisan criticism, because you can look up this issue and see that I say the same thing every time "hypoallergenic" pets come up (well, anytime I feel like putting my oar in).

I have seven indoor dogs and three cats (though the cats are temporary - only until after we move).  I vacuum every day with a GIANT vacuum.  I dust.  We have no rugs and I launder all bedding, upholstry pillows, surtains, and couch slipcovers, onve a week.  Pilllows and sheets are changed every couple of days.  The dogs aren't allowed in the kids' side of the house.  the dog's beds are elevated cots that I can vacuum with my GIANT vacuum, and once a week hose down.

It's just me here and I've got a life other than playing maid to seven dogs and three cats.  But it gets done and the four people who live here who have asthma, stay healthy most of the time.  We have trouble during polen season but I have no dobt that if we could afford to run the air and had a whole house air cleaner, it would alleviate that problem too.  I bet the Obamas could afford that.

My one son has asthma so badly that he used to have to use a nebulizer.  Me too, actually.  But I started letting the dogs in more and HAD to figure out a proactive game plan for staying on top of allergens - and since then neither Joey nor me have had to break out the little machine.  It's in the closet  - it would collect dust if I let dust collect in here!

Oh, I just had a brainstorm.  Picture this:

Hey I'm Polly! I'm a sweet, easy going girl who would love to cuddle up at home with you.

Start a petition!  Rescue pibble in the White House!

It made the NBC news tonight also.  I keep hearing doodle, doodle, doodle.  I hope SOMEONE has contact with them that can explain that's not a guarantee the dog will be "hypoallergenic".  There's a much better response if you control the environment.  My severely allergic son did well with no carpet in his room, frequent bathing of bedding and dog and not allowing the dog into his bedroom.  I'd hate to see the girls get a doodle and then have to get rid of it because it didn't turn out to be as allergy proof as they'd been told by the doodle enthusiasts.  There's plenty of poodles and terriers in shelters and they're low allergy.

I hope they peek in here!  Big Smile   I also hope the Best Friends people who sponsored the petition will help in the selection and education of the family.
