Obama Rescue Dog

I bet Obama may come to regret making that public announcement last night!  LOL

It seemed like a sincere Daddy statement.  I'm sure going into this campaign from the beginning, they all sat down as a family and talked about how tough it would be from campaign to the white house.  I'll bet those (smart) girls said OK Dad, but can we get a puppy after its all over?  LOL

They won't let him forget; but it seemed like that's one promise made that will be fulfilled.

Maybe things will go more smoothly if the Prez does what Warren G. Harding did when he was in office.  His dog had his own chair to sit in during cabinet meetings.

Politico reports that it may be a rescue puppy/dog, that they won't get one until the spring, and that Malia has allergies, so it'll have to be "hypoallergenic".

I really hope they end up with a rescue dog because I would love the publicity for shelters and awareness of puppy mills.  Either way, I think it's great that the girls are getting a puppy and I definitely get the sense that this is a family that will make sure the girls stay on top of their responsibilities for the dog.  Uprooting them to a new area, new school (in the middle of the year), and a big spotlight is going to be a lot for them and taking responsibility for a puppy together could actually be a good grounding thing for them.  Can't wait to see what they get :)

I heard today on "The Morning Show with Mike and Juliet" the younger daughter wants a Goldendoodle....

I don't like "designer dogs" per se, however if they rescue one all the power to them!

Well, you have to admit a doodle would look pretty cute romping in the Rose Garden.  Digging up the roses, jumpin' up on the Secret Service guys and getting them all muddy, taking down the White House Christmas tree with one sweep of the tail.......................

But think of the explosion of doodles.......... There are a lot in rescue in Texas. :(

I was thinking that too, but, maybe they'll advocate adopting one and not buying one. I know many doodle-mixes end up in shelters because they are popular now.

His girls are really cute and deserve a puppy!  I hope they find a nice pup in rescue and give him the glamors role as "first dog".  No matter what the dog, they all take down Christmas trees for the first couple of years.Wink

Think a rescue would be insist on a homecheck before adopting to them? Big Smile

Please God Not a Doodle.    Even if it is a rescue, I shudder to think of the explosion that would result in.  OY!

Seriously, anything but a doodle.  I'd LOVE to see them with a retired racer, maybe be a trendsetter with rescue Greyhounds instead of yet another doodle owner like every other family who wants a hypoallergenic dog.

He doesn't HAVE to get a rescue dog and I think it's kind of annoying that people started a petition pressuring him to. It would also be a good message if he got a puppy from a responsible breeder.

    • Gold Top Dog

^^ I kind of understand what you mean but I think the thing is, if he adopted a dog it would mean GREAT publicity and awareness about rescue dogs

Buying from a breeder would only send a good message if he went on and on to clarify why he chose that breeder and what constitutes a responsible breeder - that would give the good breeders publicity - but I don't think that'd happen - as Prez I'm sure he will have a lot more to do

And rescues need more public limelight --->

Most quality breeders, if not all, are not overflowing with pups and they do not need publicity to attract buyers. Rescues and shelters DO.
