AND OBAMA WINS!

We didn't know about JFK until well after the fact.  In those day, the media wasn't in everyones garbage and looking for dirt.

No, I don't think Clinton is beyond reproach with his behavior OR his lies, however, his behavior should have been between him and Hillary, not him and the nation.

Some things are just not everyone elses business

I can not agree more... and Joyce we totally agree as well.  I remember reading about J. Edger Hoover who HATED the Kennedys from the old man on. When JFK was in the White House he actually brought in the women who had been or alledgedly had been with him , Marilyn had a soft porn flick out where she was , well for want of a better word, "servicing"  someone Hoover was positive was  the President!  He demanded they watch everything and then ID the guy who appeared only from the neck down.   It wasn't anyone's business but Marilyn's and her "co-star". One of her Ex Husbands I think bought the only copy making sure if was never sold to the tabloids etc.

There was a time when the country simply had better manners. As Joyce pointed out the press circled around the president and did not publish every piece of trash they could find. It was distasteful to the Nationa as a whole. We did not ask intensely personal questions because it was none of our business.  I do not ask the guy who works on my car, mows my lawn or cleans my teeth what they do away from the job !! I lost respect for Clinton but it was not because of the affair per se, more because he had picked so poorly that he embarassed himself and Hillary.  When my husband had an affair several years ago the hardest thing to deal with once it was all over and dine with and we had chosen to make it work was my horror that instead of a younger better looking woman he picked someone I found to be barely decent to look at.  She wasn't wealthy, well read or  fun .  She was not someone he would ever have taken a second look at the way men normally do.  That was the biggest blow to my ego. Hot, Younger and a pole dancer I think I would have understood.  Mediocre,Older, and a civil servant???  Monica always struck me as that girl in high school or college that never had girlfriends because she was always working an angle and never had boyfriends because she was "easy".

Oh Well Back to Barrack, I read an article this afternoon on AOL that said moms in Kenya are naming their children Barrack Obama left and right and if they have a girl there is a huge rise in Michelle Obamas !

And as far as the First Puppy goes , Barney was being walked by his "Handler" and bit a reporter !!  OMG they showed the clip on the news and I almost wet myself when I saw it. The reporter leaned in and went to pet the little scotty even though his body language said " Not a good idea Buddy!"   So the reporter was treated by the White House doctor , given antibiotics and has to get a tetnus shot.... Barney did release an apology later....

My apologies Ron.  But, yes, I think it was necessary.

IMO, these two statements are incongruent. I could explain to you what I meant but it won't change the fact that you are going to say those things.

The kind of excess and waste by the Republicans really highlights the differences in the two parties.  O'Bama spoke in an open public park...come one come all.....McCain in a ritzy hotel ballroom, by invitiaton only.  If that offends you, I'm sorry, but it's flat out fact.

The flat out fact is that McCain used public financing, living up to his word and position on it. Obama, initially for public financing, decided to switch to private financing and outspent McCain on both campaign and the Grant Park party, which evidently worked better for his campaign.

The point I was trying to make is that Republican Party decided to buy her some clothes since everything she has comes from a resale consignment shop that she normally uses. And the clothes will be sold and the money given to charity. I realize that you simply don't like her, period, paragraph, and new book. And I can't help you with that and I didn't think this thread was going to turn into another debate. I thought it was going to be an oasis of graciousness. Another blonde moment, for me.

While there are many things about Palin that I do not like, while I do not think she is qualified to be President or VP of the United States, I do not dislike her as a human being.

Has it occurred that there are people who can't afford to even shop at a consignment shop?

Yes. And maybe the proceeds of the Palin clothes can be given to homeless shelters. Or given directly to a woman and children who are in a shelter tonight. With the clothes, she could have the right appearance to get a better job. Busting Palin's chops won't help the homeless. You may want to think I'm callous or unfeeling so let me  let you in on a little bit of personal history.

My first wife had quite a collection of clothes. With receipts to prove it, her clothes were worth about $10,000 at prices in the early to mid 1980's. When she passed away, I gave the clothes to Genesis, a Dallas area org where these same clothes could be bought for a few dollars for a complete outfit. As in a $2,000 outfit sold for a few dollars so that a down-on-her-luck woman could dress for success and not have to wear something worn down. I know a little bit about helping others less fortunate than myself. And I know charity comes from the heart, not by mandate.

This is way off topic, but FWIW, I thought the Monica scandal was awful and I lost most of the respect I had for Clinton.  I don't like him to this day for that reason.

I agree totally.  I really liked him until this,,,and to this day I see him with disrespect.  While I believe its his personal business as a person...its not his personal business as the president of our country.  If we are to respect his position..we need to respect him.     To this day I have a mental picture of him and Monica in the White House.....     and you know the truth is I have almost as much disrespect for Hillary, just for putting up with him, or sticking up for him.

Maybe I'm just a prude but I agree as well. To me it comes down to character. If someone is willing to lie, cheat, disrespect their spouse, put their own 'needs' first and not honor their personal commitments to the one they love, then I certainly do not trust them to be honest with me - the general public.  JMHO

I don't disagree with anything thats been said about Clinton being a butt, however, that was an issue that should have been between him and his wife (who should have given him the boot) and NOT between him and the nation.

I really dislike the press these days.  The press is far too powerful and far too involved in what should be private issues.  Does the public "right to know" really supercede the rights or human beings, public figures or not, to have SOME level of privacy?

Remember, Princess Di died because some fool felt that her having a relationship ought to be public knowledge.  And wasn't there an embedded journalist in Iraq who they shipped home because he gave away our position and endangered our troops?

Are our lives so bland that we need to be titalated with the latest gossip and sitings of the rich and famous?  Do we really NEED to know when the latest Hollywood star ends up in rehab?  I don't know about anyone else, but everytime I SEE a cigar I get these flashes of old Bill!

Perhaps one of the nicest things about the "good old days"was that the press wasn't up everyones butt all the time.  There are plenty of things that I for one, just don't NEED to know.

I agree with that...until he committed perjury. People seem to forget that.

Right but IMO the question should not have even been asked.

Hopefully Obama understands better than Clinton did that his life is not going to be private in any sense of the word for the next 4 yrs. He's a public servant on the job 24/7.  His business is our business. I'm pretty sure he knows that going in and so did Clinton.

I agree with you up to a point.  I am trying to reconcile your statement above with the statement you made about Palin's expensive clothes.  I did not think she was qualified to be VP much less possibly POTUS but I never thought that the clothes issue was anything more than the press slinging mud at her.  What she wears and how much it costs has no bearing on her qualifications. I think it is more relevant to the public to know that the President or any one in a position of such power has no moral compass.  When someone chooses a profession that puts them in the public eye then they should be prepared for the scrutiny they will receive.  We can't go back to the time when you and I grew up and the media was not a bunch of piranahs looking for blood in the water.  Every public person knows this and takes that chance willingly.  It's up to intelligent people to decide what secret revealed is relevant or not.

Strange how nobody happened to mention that McCain picked up wife #2 at a bar/party and had an affair with her while wife #1 was recuperating from a traffic accident. He wasn't president, but still ....
