This is slightly off topic but I find it interesting that it has never bothered me to think of a man in that position having an affair or flings. I have not the first clue why, but it just hasn't.

I feel the same way, Bonita.  I think it's because I don't expect the president to be a moral compass.  I know right from wrong without looking to the president, or anyone else, to set an example.  I vote for the person I feel will do the best job running the country and I couldn't care less what goes on in his bedroom or in the oval office under the desk.

Really? Even if it's with a young intern? Even if he lies about it under oath? Sorry, I guess I'm more uptight than that but it bothered me terribly. I felt even more disgusted when I heard about John Edwards and his fling. DIdn't help that his wife is battling breast cancer. Sad

hey Cathy...thruout the election this site/URL was poking fun at Palin...it was updated daily...there's a thread here about it.

Meanspirited but funny as it was...with the election over they have changed it to be something more in keeping with the spirit the President Elect seems to want us all to have at the front of our minds.

We didn't know about JFK until well after the fact.  In those day, the media wasn't in everyones garbage and looking for dirt.

No, I don't think Clinton is beyond reproach with his behavior OR his lies, however, his behavior should have been between him and Hillary, not him and the nation.

Some things are just not everyone elses business.

No problems here with young interns.  I assume we're talking about Monica here ... she was of age and a consenting adult. The only reason we're so *shocked* is because it came out.  Back when JFK was in the white house, the press felt a responsibility to gather around the president and protect him from scandal.  Can you imagine the outcry if we had known at the time about the womanizing he was doing, and in the white house yet? Today, nothing is secret.  That's the only difference between then and now. Doesn't make it right - that's just how it is.  Powerful men have women throwing themselves at them 24/7 - they always have and they always will. Most will succumb, some won't.

Was that the one that had Palin sitting at the desk and you could click on different things, like the windows, door, etc? That was seriously one of the funniest things I'd ever seen.

Hmmm.  When I was younger, I didn't get the deal either.  Who cares what the leader does as long as he runs the country OK, why  the big hoo hah.

But now I have my OWN family and I think.... I would like the leader of my country (UK) to care about "family", because that way MY family might benefit.  Now if he doesn't HAVE a family and he womanises.... well, that's one thing.  But if he DOES have a family and he cares so little about them that he behaves that way - well, if he cares so little about his own family then he will care even less about MINE, or the concept of "family" in general.  And that's not someone I want leading the country.

Besides which, it might be a well known fact that all politicians lie and it's practically part of the job description.  But it's still not "nice" for it to be rubbed in your face.  What a way to insult the people who voted you into power.

    Sorry, back to topic....

But if we weren't all up in his biznaz he wouldn't have felt he had to lie under oath.  I'd take Bill Clinton back as pres any day...

This is way off topic, but FWIW, I thought the Monica scandal was awful and I lost most of the respect I had for Clinton.  I don't like him to this day for that reason.  I'd also feel the same about any person in a position of power having a relationship with someone working under them, a judge, a CEO, a professor, etc.  Consenting or not, I think it's wrong.  If you're interested in a relationship with someone working under you, first, GET DIVORCED if you're married, second, one of them needs to leave their position so there doesn't appear to be any undue influence, coercion or special treatment.  It's frightening to think of what a really hot spy could have gotten out of him, his pants were a revolving door for cripe's sake!  So some freaking restraint, you're the G-D President!

    Back to the Obama thread......

I agree, with one qualifier. It was bad enough that he was unfaithful, which does say something about character. I don't think a president is above the moral standards we hold to ourselves. What was just as bad is that he lied about it to the american people. Yet, he won two terms. So, the voters didn't have a problem with it. And equally mystifying to me is how could be with those women. None of them were as attractive, IMO, as Hillary. Hillary was and still is an attractive woman. And I still can't understand how Bill could stray from her.
